Does anyone else exercise as a treatment for anxiety? I have to say that I've only been doing it this past week, but I feel better each day after every work out. 4 out of 5 days this week I worked out. The one day I didn't I was a jittery mess. I'm out of shape and moderately overweight so it's definitely something I "should" be doing. Now that I see it helps with anxiety issues, I'm going to exercise more frequently. Has anyone else on here noticed psychological benefits to exercise?

Absolutely!!! Exercise is wonderful to relieve stress and anxiety. I start every day with Donna Eden's daily energy routine. She teaches energy medicine exercises, and has a collection of exercises that take 10 minutes tops and make you feel fabulous. Your body works so much better when the energy meridians inside it are flowing correctly. I would recommend to anyone, Donna's Eden's daily exercise routine. The effects are cumulative and you will feel better and better every day.

I do not have anxiety, but I am sure that exercise is doing the body really good. But I have to say that eating right is also good. Keep it up.

Yes, I believe that exercise relieves anxiety. I also chew gum to relieve anxiety.
Lots of people smoke and drink to relieve anxiety. That's probably not the best way to do it. :-\

I definitely have anxiety and exercising makes it all better. I chew a lot of gum as well.

I don't have anxiety problems (from what I know of) but I would assume it would help. Getting yourself out of the problematic mind set seems to be the biggest issue for people and by forcing yourself to focus on certain tasks, you can limit how much it affects you.
Plus, as you said yourself, exercise is just good for your to do anyway, so 2 birds 1 stone type scenario here.

I've suffered from anxiety for decades, and I can always tell if I've been exercising or not.

Hello! :D :)
Yes, I've noticed that exercising can help reduce stress and it help you feel great. I also exercise to help maintain my perfectly imperfect shape. Exercise is great overall and I think we should all do it. :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:

I try to exercise but although my intentions are good, I always end up stopping or finding some excuse not to do it.
But yes, it does help.
I suffer from anxiety, depression, and OCD, so if I could stick to it, it would help me.
-
Yes! Exercise...because it makes you relax.

I exercise and find that when I do my body feels more relaxed and less stressed, just overall feel better. :female: :female: :female: :female:

I do find that exercising helps me to feel better and less stressed out about things. I also started to notice that when I exercise I gain a little weight too because I eat more. I need to find a balance.

I have noticed a positive affects psychologicaly when working out regularly. I get more energy which leads to more getting done with leads to less stress which leads to less worry which leads to less nagging which leads to healthier relationships which leads to all around happier healthier lifestyles. I have noticed that when I eat healthier I exercise regularly and vice versa.

my ex room mate did 1 hr or 2 per a day . it emitts endorphins so it helps.

I have been exercising between jobs to erase the day's stress and re-engage my mind. I get home and jump on our recumbent, stationary bike for about an hour after every daytime shift which is about twenty miles of biking. My cousin and I have a running goal to put in at least two thousand running/walking miles per year. I usually start off pretty good. Right now I have roughly nine hundred miles in and did not exercise in January. My cousin is at around five hundred miles but is only counting his bike ride to/from work and a few training runs. I also walk my dogs daily which will stretch anywhere from a half to two miles. This is usually done in the early morning and helps me think/plan out my day so that I can be at peak capacity. The fresh air also helps me get my head together.

To the OP: Not for anxiety, but to relieve stress (and because I am required to be in pique physical fitness as part of my job). Prior to my current job, I was the proverbial couch potato that hated to exercise.

I love to exercise but most of the time my body doesn't agree
-
It does help not only with anxiety but with being able to sleep better at night. Still do I do it as much as I should? Nope. I am lazy and stubborn lol
-
I don't exercise specifically to "treat" anxiety, but I always feel more fulfilled afterward. I work out 6 days a week.
-
I do not have anxiety but exercise help with stress.

Such good responses! Glad I'm not the only one who has discovered this. I've been doing 30 minutes a day, which I know isn't a lot, but I'm very out of shape so it gets my heart rate up and my mind off myself. Plus, I really enjoy it. Not bad for someone who would fake being sick to get out of gym class in middle and high school. Lol. There's a gym in my office building, so I plan on working out every day I go into work.

Exercise will always help with depression, stress, anxiety.... the chemical reaction your body produces called endorphins builds up your happy feelings!

I am a health trainer and i can tell you for sure that working out helps you 100%.

Today was my worst anxiety day I've had in awhile. I still did my usual workout and while I would say it did help, it didn't help quite as well as I'd like. I still needed to take an anxiety medication afterwards. A friend of mine had a good point: We don't shame diabetics for needing their insulin or epileptics for needing their meds. Why am I feeling guilty over a medical condition that I often can't control? I'll continue taking the meds as needed, just hoping the regular workouts makes me need them less and less.
-
Absolutely. It definitely helps.

Exercise is good for the mind and body. While exercising you are focused on it. It's especially good when you are listening to your favorite singers. It takes away all of the stress and anxiety.
-
I exercise daily and never have anxiety.
-
I'm taking the day off from exercise today. Just not feeling up to it, but I hope to be back in the gym tomorrow. :)
-
I think it can definitely help especially if it's an intense workout. You use up energy and it takes your mind off things. Does that tell you anything? Anxiety is all in your head and you are in control of your thoughts. Anxiety is easily overcome by anyone who really wants to overcome it.
-
Exercise makes it easier to sleep under stressful situations.

I do not think exercise is a cure for anxiety. I do agree it makes you feel better. I don't have time to do it right now.
