This is a heading for a news article from last Friday. We need to be more involved in our kids and young people lives. Between bullying, and peer pressure and whatever could be happening in their homes, kids have a lot to deal with. Watch our for the young people that you all know.

It's not on the rise,it's just as always, teens are nothing more than a body of emotions, but now with technology like youtube, twitter, facebook teens open up on these sites. They can't tell family, authorities, they swear their friends to secrecy or lie when asked, but go online and under fake names they open up to strangers. Hardest thing in the world is to try to help a teenager.

social media and phones have let to a lot more cyber bullying and despite the pleas, sometimes it's sadly too late.
-
Imo cyberbullying is ridiculous, when it's real life bullying that's the problem. Teens need to be taught to turn off the tech and not care about the opinions of others that are hateful. No matter there will always be ppl that don't like you and on the net it's easy to just turn it off.

That is unfortunate to hear. Being a teenager is such a complicated time as it is. But the rise in social media has, sadly, not just connected teens, but given them more ways to hurt each other. It's also something that can semi-invisible until it's escalated horribly.

Everyone has a lot to deal with. It is not just teens. It is adults too. Bullying is a part of the problem but I think the majority of the time if you stand up to the bully they will back off. Most of them try to pick somebody they think is weak or that will take whatever they dish out. Had this happen to me recently. When I stood up to the witch she cowered into the corner and didn't speak to me again. lol

I agree to a point but a lot of the cyber bullying can be stopped. There is this little thing called BLOCKING. You can block people who harass you on Facebook. Kids also need to realize that no one can be trusted. Remember the girl who sent the naked pic of herself to her boyfriend and he later sent it to all his contacts and it ended up being all over the school. She ended up killing herself. People suck.

It's no wonder - look at the direction the world has become and is heading. I mean split families with children raising there parents younger children... parents unable to cope with life so turning to drinking and drugs - kid getting cell phones at ages where they should imo still be playing with dolls and riding bikes. The expectation for children to take on adult experiences and responsibilities without allowing there minds and bodies to develop at there own rate is 1/2 the problem.

That is sad to hear but I sure don't doubt it. Seems like people don't teach their children about not bullying and to respect others. Even in elementary school the kids act like thugs. I think the way the world is period all ages are on the rise with depression.

Yes, that is so sad to hear. I pray for my grands everyday and I talk to the pre-teen one to help build her up.

To me a lot of the problems goes back to Social Services getting involved with how kids are disciplined. The kids have no one to set them on the right path by letting them know what is right and what is wrong.

I find this so sad. I am Autistic, and though I am 63 years old, the average "high functioning" Autistic person with at least one comorbidity lives to only 40 years of age. The reason so low is because of the extraordinarily high rate of suicide. They feel hopeless, pressured to not be their authentic selves, anxiety, deep loneliness.
In so many ways Autistic people can be compared to the proverbial "canary in the mine." Autistic suicide rates go up, so do the suicide rates for non-Autistics, for similar reasons.
All young people need to be respected, protected, and accepted. The pressure and stress needs to be lessened greatly. and this crazy obsession with the accumulation of huge financial wealth has to be eliminated. We need to know what is "enough" and use the surplus to help our environment , animals, and our people.

Life is good as long generally and the majority of the depressed do not have a legitimate right to be depressed. Depressed over a facebook status/unfriended....Are they starving to death,dying....no. Turn of the tech and deal with your real life problems in reality.

Out of what I seen with my niece and nephew and most of the friends they hang out with I somewhat doubt this, Just my Op though.

Doesn't surprise me at all. The world is a much harder place to live in nowadays. I know more people with depression than those without it.

Adults bully and don't respect others. That is where their kids learn it from. They see how you treat people in customer service, they know how you act on Facebook and other places online, they hear how you talk to your friends about other people. SO they do the same thing.

I also think people use the "depression" as a cop out. It gets people out of working. You get a doctor to say you are "depressed" and you can sit at home and draw a check. I also think the word depression is over used and used in the wrong context. Kind of like the word bullying. If you disagree with someone you are called a bully. No it is called having my own opinion. Every one has problems. No one has a perfect life. Every one has things they have to deal with.

No its not, instead of dealing with there problems they just talk about it forever. They are very lazy now.
