Title: Trump Commutes Sentence Of Woman Serving Life For Nonviolent Drug Offense!
Post by: sbenkoski on June 06, 2018, 02:32:10 pm: President Trump has commuted the life sentence of a great-grandmother who has been in federal prison for more than 20 years for a first-time drug conviction.

They say she has been a model prisoner. During her incarceration, she has written plays and become an ordained minister.

Johnson was convicted on cocaine conspiracy and money laundering charges. At the time of sentencing, The Associated Press reported that U.S. federal judge Julia Gibbons said Johnson was "the quintessential entrepreneur" of a drug ring that dealt in tons of cocaine.

This woman should have been out sooner !

It's not a pardon. It's just a commutation. Big difference. A pardon clears the record. A commuted sentence means the rest of it's wiped out. Like in Bradley Mnaning (or should I call he/she Chelsea?). He got 35 years but Obama commuted his sentence and he's out in 7. One of the worse violation of hundreds of thousands of classified secret documents that she had downloaded from intelligence databases.

They let her out today.

There are definitely some innocent people who have been in prison. Sadly, most will never be freed despite their innocence.

Why should we have to continue to pay to house, feed and give medical care to a person like that when they can do it for themselves and be no further harm to society to boot?

lol the tax payers will continue to feed, house, and clothe her. If she is a great-grandmother then she is probably retirement age and she won't be able to get a job being old and being in jail all her life. Just how it is. So she likely will get out, apply for food stamps and welfare. She hasn't worked so she doesn't have social security to draw.

Charles Manson was likely a great grandfather. Did he deserve to be let out because he had grand kids? You are right though when they throw that in there people auto think of a sweet little old lady baking cookies and knitting.

She was the leader of a drug cartel, she was caught with over 5,000 pounds of cocaine...I think she is lucky to be out and does not deserve any sort of compensation.

Kim Kardashian made a personal plea to Trump, very shortly afterwards he commuted her sentence. Again, I think this woman deserved it but it also shows it's more about who you know or whose attention you get. That, for me, is sad.
