I usually give money to childhood cancer and to my local food bank. I give a couple times of years because I never know when I may need help.
-
I donate when I can to charity. I wish I had more money so I could donate more often.
-
Compassion International
-
The main one I donate to is the Humane Society. I don't mind giving cash, but when they are in front of Walmart set up asking for donations I always fill a cart with dog and cat food and cat litter and give that to them.
-
Yes I have several that I try to donate to at least once a year. Some are educational charities and others medical. My favorite is the Fistula Foundation that I have been contributing for for years. I almost always wait for a matching grant to pop up before donating to increase the impact of my donation.
-
I give to Animal charities, some local and the Humane Society, American Cancer, Wounded Warriors. Also our local food bank and our area also has a food bank for pets of people who can’t always afford pet food.

 :glasses-nerdy: :silly: I don't have a specific charity I donate to all the time, but when the local stores have a charity fund to donate I tend to help. They range from different charities. :glasses-nerdy: :silly:

I wish I could give to every charity. I give to water and hunger charities mostly, I used to give to the ASPCA but I got annoyed at the amount of money they spend on sending me junk mail and little freebies, I would rather find a charity that actually uses my donation for what I donated it for.

Yes I have a few I like to donate to, some deal with children, others I like deal with cancer and the March of Dimes is one of my favorite.

I was thinking about joining the ASPCA since our dog just passed away.I told my wife i wanted to still be involved with animals without owning another one cos i dont like the grief we just went thru. Now i see your post and im a little hesitant.Thats the problem i have with charities....worrying about if the money is spent well. You see their commercials and you get moved by them and you wanna help...but then you wonder.

I don't like to donate

I donate to cancer research and Salvation Army

I participate in a charity on Amazon Smile. A small portion of whatever I pay when I buy something goes to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

Every year we donate to St. Jude's, Toys for tots and Ronald McDonald House. Anything that involves children is usually a good cause. Also donate use clothing and household items to Amvets.

I choose a different charity every Denver which is a no kill shelter for dogs. It is a no kill shelter that will receive dogs from all over and gets messages from other shelters that do not have a no kill policy. They have accepted dogs from people who can not afford to provide proper care to their pets. For example, there is a dog that needed surgery for two torn ACLs and a Saint Bernard who's owner is in jail and wanted to turn the Bernard into a vicious guard dog. I will have donated fifty hours of my time by December for which my day time job will award the shelter a check for five hundred dollars. I will donate ten percent of all income earned outside of my two and a half full time jobs (so as not to diminish income slated for my family's immediate needs).

I have several I donate to every year: The Fistula Foundation, She's The First (which pays for school for girls in third world countries), my college and grad school, PBS and my local library. I try to wait for matching grants before donating to increase the impact of my gift.

I am a big fan of St. Jude, or anything to do with animals. I also donate to my church.

I like to give at Christmas to Salvation Army. I know the organization, and feel safe giving there. I give every year.
Also have given to the Scouts, but don't like the changes in the organizations, so don't anymore. I was a Brownie leader when my kids were young.
There are a lot of agencies that have a good cause, but one or a few in the organization have evil intent. I would rather give locally, or to the individuals needing the help.
I remember how many gave to a certain agency during "9/11" for the firemen. If I recall correctly, the head of the whole national agency was pulling a "fast one" to get her share before the Firemen got anything. Awful.
I believe that was cleared up, but it stuck in my mind. I worked inside that agency later, that everyone knows, and it has drama and intrigue even at ground level at times.
So, other than Salvation Army, I do not. Want to help veterans, but you have to be careful. I would rather give locally there.

mostly thru my church

We tithe to our church, and then give when an occasion arises. Sometime the Boy or Girl Scouts, something we are familiar with and trust where the money :-\ will go.

I'm sorry you lost your buddy :( In light of these concerns, may I suggest donating directly to a local shelter? I figure they are usually too small to afford to waste donation money on advertising/junk mailing. Or you could even volunteer there so you're sure where your resources are going, I did that for a while and you could see "behind the scenes" how a small shelter really values every dollar and every pair of hands.

I can no longer give but I used to give to North Shore Animal Hospital on their automatic monthly gift. I believe over the years I gave around $4000 to them. I also gave to Wounded Warriors and the Salvation Army. Hubby gave to Disable Veterans of America by they keep sending address labels every month or so, so he quit.
If I had my way, I'd give to the above 3 once again plus Shriner's Hospital and St. Jude's Hospitals.
-
Charity starts at home.
My donations do not go to groups...
Because you do not know go gets what.
I donate on a one on one basis...
based on personal needs...the very needed
comes first.

I have donated food to the food bank. Last weekend I bought school supplies and gave to the sheriff's office to donate to local kids that can't afford them. If I was going to give a cash donation, it would be for babies born too early. My grandson was born at 6 weeks early. He only had to stay in NICU for 2 weeks. I would also donate to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital because my daughter received services from them.
-
We give to St. Jude's.
-
Yes, The Alzheimer's Association, Salvation Army and the Red Cross
-
I just recently began donating to cup of cold water ministries. Some friend of mine encouraged donations to this charity instead of birthday gifts. They did this over Facebook. Another friend of mine is doing the same thing with M.S. So next month I'll donate in honor of her late husband. I like that facebook option.
-
There is a teen mom charity in town that I like to donate to.
-
I donate to our local charity. I started out donating just money and clothing. But now I work down there 2 days a week. My main job is to give out the groceries. It is hard and hot. We can only let them have so much a month as it is a small place and we depend upon donations as we do not have anything to do with the government. Even though we are checked out all the time by government agencies to make sure we are running it right. And we are. It is hard to get good volunteers though.

Red Cross. They helped me out when my apartment building caught fire and I will never, ever forget that.
-
I donate to the local humane society. I like to keep the money local and to be more likely to get to the intended cause. Some of the large National Organizations so much goes to overhead and to CEOs sadly.

I only have about a bazillion I donate to, and they all send me mail every month to ask for more. I get a knee deep stack every day of unwanted mail. :confused1:
