I THINK SO BECAUSE I BELIEVE IT WAS THE FIRST BOOK ALSO IS AMAZING BOOK

No. Pages and pages of listing off who had sex with who. That's not good writing at all, that's just annoying.
And it was not the first book. :

If Moses wrote it back in 2050 B.C. yes, actually it *would* be. We don't have any complete volumes of works like the Torah written in an alphabet.
Moses would have needed to invent an alphabet in order to write it.

In my personal opinion:
The Bible is only good for when you run out of zigzags and need something to roll a joint with... bible paper comes in handy if you ask me.

The Bible is the Truth, whether we choose to accept it or not, well that is each persons decision. I know I have made my choice.

Tru dat, brudda. Flaming Eye of Sauron > Talking Snake Satan

Yes and no.
Parts of it are pretty incredible when read from a non-religious, sort of fantasy, perspective. Of course it has its insanely boring, useless parts, but if you can ignore those, it's a very creative fairy tale.
Has it promoted great morality and positive movements? Sometimes, but I'd say the negative throughout history and even today continues to outweigh the positive.
As for it being the "first book," that's highly debatable. Regardless, I don't know why being the first would make it any better.
It should also be noted that what is written in the Bible was passed down orally for decades, perhaps longer, before being written down. Along with the fact that it's been torn to shreds and glued back together by committees with specific biased motives.
Never mind getting into the accuracy of it, which is -.- in itself.
-
I think it is. There all kinds of lessons you canuse on life now days, you just have to read the book. Using the pages for rolling joints is just rude!
-
There all kinds of lessons you canuse on life now days
Examples please.
All the main messages in the Bible were around before the Bible was written down. Furthermore, a number of the "lessons" in the Bible are some of the most horrible "lessons" you can expose a child to, or anyone for that matter. The book is full of countless acts of murder, prejudice, and hate (a number of these coming from the main character himself).
-
A lot of what you guys refer to as the bible is the Old Testament. The OT is the history book part. Yeah it can be boring at times, with some books dedicated to all the crazy stuff you had to and had not to do back in those times. However, it still had some crazy sweet stories and interesting parts. Most of the life lessons that have anything whatsoever to do with current times are in the New Testament. There is too much about the Bible to talk about in a FC forum. But the people who diss the Bible the most know the least about it.

None of the Bible is boring if you are reading it with Faith and Belief, if you don't believe you will just read the words, and try to understand, but it will be a bunch of mumbo jumbo, that makes no sense, because it takes faith to understand to believe. Only the Holy Spirit can interpret the meaning. My Bible Studies are never boring, I think boring is hardly a word for how we got here, why we are here, and how we have eternal life, not to mention the battles of evil, the Mercy and Grace of God, there is more action and history than any movie ever made, and the Bible is pure truth.
-
:) No...some people believe each word...others not. It is full of controversial stories. The only part that makes sense is the "ten commandments" and any other good commandments you may find.
-

Beyond the truth...saddening, honestly.

Proverbs have some pretty good lessons and so does the New Testament if you read what Jesus says. What would Jesus do is a pretty good thing to use on a daily
Well sure. You can cherry pick almost anything and make it seem positive. One thing is certain, I would never hand my child a Quran or Bible and tell them to live by the morals within it.

And yet people consistently cite the Bible in their stance on, for example, homosexuality being immoral and against "God's law." Yet there's really no mention of it in the NT...in fact, I can't think of a single specific instance of homosexuality being condemned in the NT. Or the Ten Commandments, which people are clearly still promoting -- Old Testament. Countless more examples....plain nonsense to pretend Christianity teaches the OT as history and doesn't try to apply it to the world today.

I once read a thread on Something Awful where people were asking why individuals become atheists. One of the posts read "Because I read the bible!".
I don't believe the bible is "the best book ever wrote in human kind history" because much of it is so distraught (exodus), wordy (numbers), fantasy-oriented (genesis, matthew, mark, luke, john, etc.), and illogical (genesis, numbers). People praise it saying it's scientific and all of the rules still apply to todays world, but they don't. As liljp said, Homosexuality is a great example.
-
No I don't think it is the best book ever written, but I do however think it's the greatest lie ever told. :angel12: No offense.
-
YES IF YOU BELIEVE IN GOD. IT HAS BEEN AROUND FOR CENTURIES AND GIVES YOU LESSONS ON HOW TO LIVE LIFE.
-
Interesting topic...and I would have to agree with it...Yes it is...
-
It is not the best but it is one of the most read it
-
no it is a terrible book. What you are reading today isn't even the real version. It has been changed and revised so many times throughout history we don't even know what we are reading anymore.
-
YES IF YOU BELIEVE IN GOD. IT HAS BEEN AROUND FOR CENTURIES AND GIVES YOU LESSONS ON HOW TO LIVE LIFE.
It's been around for centuries at the expense of millions of people being slaughtered. If you live your life by the morality laid out in the Bible (and you don't..nobody does), you'd be in jail right now.
-
the bible as in the christian religion is made by jews christianity was made to keep human from growing spiritually and our minds to reach higher in making people thinking theres a devil when theres not
-
I lOvE the BIBLE! And it is the best book! in the world! and the first! IT is AwEsOmE! :)
-
I'm under the impression most of the people here saying it is the best book ever written have either never read it or only skimmed a few decently-written verses...
and also haven't read much in their life either...
-
Yes, I do.
-
yes of coarse. The bible tell swhy man is even existing. we are not here just to be here . if you read the bible it tells you that the purpose of man is to keep the word of God and live forever with him we are here to do what man did not in the begging. that is our purpose for life nothing else in this world matters but God.
-
Yes because even if there was no God there would be a need to create one.
It offers so much hope and gives comfort to those that have lost loved ones, especially those that get killed or when parent's infants die :angel11:
I disagree. Im loosing my mother to cancer she is in her final stage, will I pick up the bible and read it because of this, NO. Death is a part of life. I am very sad my mom is dieing but life will go on. I might become depressed but havent we all at one point or another. Life is what YOU make it out to be.
-
No book in the history is keep it reading for everybody in the world, and is better than other bestsellers
-

-
Im not christian....So no its not the greatest book =/

Disputable.

Flowery rhetoric.

Wrong. Translations have happened since the very beginning, yes, but nothing ever changed. We have copies of the Old and New testament that span back thousands of year (Different copies from different time periods), and they are still straight as an arrow. The Dead Sea scrolls, for example, which are like a thousand years old (I don't know for sure), were 95% word for word from OT copies from even thousands of years before that. And the 5% that was different were "misspellings and slips of the hand." I watched a documentary.
And another thing. There is not one archaelogical finding to disprove the Bible. And I don't mean how you carbon date things and say they are 99999 years old. I mean actually physical things. Like all the Biblical cities, buildings, and civilizations that are still being found.

You cannot be serious. You do realize multiple books were taken out of the Bible, others were edited, others were input, and so on? The Bible has been edited numerous times throughout history. This isn't a debatable topic.

A documentary is only as credible as its producer. I'd like to see which documentary you watched or who made it.

Harry Potter lives in London. They watch the London News. They reference the Prime Minister. They reference King's Cross, the train station in London. The book talks about how there are people in the United States, Russia, and specifically mentions the existence of many actual countries which exist around the world.
It doesn't mean people fly on brooms, speak snake languages, go to wizard school when they're 13, or any of the other mythical creations of the book.

The Bible may not be the first book written, but it is the only book that matters. If you ignore the differences of clothing, speech, etc. between then and now, those stories are repeating themselves everyday in our society, Brothers killing brothers, rape, adultery, idol worshiping, drunkenness.... The Bible is our guide through this diseased world so that we can strive to be more like Jesus and live a godly life. The Bible is a Life changing book because though it was written by men, it is the absolute truth of God. Life would not be worth living without a God to hold me and guide me through the bad times and the good. :angel11:

It is our guide? Do you know what it says about what should happen if a man is caught raping a woman? Look it up, you'll have fun.

It's a shame we don't follow those laws anymore. lol. Some of them are quite disgusting, but thats how it was back then. I think the laws have changed, but there is not nearly enough punishment for unlawful things these days.

Well, either we're reading two different things or you're just assuming what it says.
What it actually says is that the rapist has to pay the woman's father a "fine" of sorts (fifty pieces of silver if I remember correctly), then the man and woman have to get married because he has defiled her. And this is "our guide."

:sad1:They say is isn't complete.. They left some parts out.

If we neglect the bible, we cannot expect to benefit from the wisdom and direction that result from knowing God's word
The Bible, and everything that surrounds it, has a history of stunting progress, stunting the increase in wisdom, and sending society in the wrong directions.

:angel12:It just so happens I have been reading, and studying the Bible, most of my life. Only in the last year have I been shown more then I ever imagined, through the Holy Spirit, The Bible, and of course, God. As far as the rewriting, and revision....Folks, the main theme does not change...Every religion, has the same bottom line. "Believe and live a life that shows, that you believe, in Him. I have also done some interesting reading, on line, about the Koran, and one of the Disciples' named,Thomas. He wrote things down hat are not in the Bible, yet still follow suit... One good site to check into that is
Now, I have heard, Th King James Version,(I grew up with it) it is supposed to be nearest to what the Dead Sea Scrolls, have written on them, the Psalms, I know for sure, some of those scrolls were not even found untill the 1900's. I want to say exact...I watched the History channel about it and I am pretty sure.
I know I was shocked at how recent these discoveries in the caves were in the long history, of the Bible....
I incourage everyone to try some research, honest to yourself, and see if that feeling doesnt hit you in your heart, that it does bear importance, now this day and age more, and more then ever before.
I know a lot of people out there are feeling like me, and I feel that. "It is time for all of us, to individually, and together....GET RIGHT WITH OUR GOD!!" It is gonna get a whole lot worse, before it gets better. BUT it will get better. I am so glad you brought that topic up!!

Those who choose to disregard the Bible and God's message will face the consequences. God clearly tells us this.
-
The good book tells us a lot of things. Rape, murder, slavery, ritual human sacrifice, it's all there. There are tons of passages regarding God making people do terrible, unforgivable things, like cannibalism, eating their own fecal matter, and then some.
-

Your God knows everything we will do millions of years before we're even born. Talk to him about "choice."
