I used to work at one for seven years and I hated all but one year when I wasn't on the phones. Lately though I'm seriously thinking about doing it again even though I said I'd never work at one again. I made good money there. I made more money doing that than my current job so I'd only go back for the money. I just don't know what I want to be when I grow up.

I run a call center - I find if you are just doing it for the money you will burn out fast and be disappointed. If you enjoy talking to people and assisting them then usually you are successful.
-
I have never worked at a call center, but I did own my own business and often made over 100 prospecting calls in a day.
-
I have never worked in a call center and don't think i would like to
-
I have worked at a call center before and it was ok. Worked at a few.

Where I used to live they had a call center and it was for the local cable company. Once the contract ended, the cable company starting doing their own calls and the place closed its doors with a days notice to the employees.
-
I applied to work for one that was inbound calls. But I didn't get the job. I really don't think I would like it but I needed a job. Still do.
-
I did that once and promised myself that I would not never do something like that again. Dealing with screwball people can be stressful.

Yeah I wondered if it would be a good job esp if you could work from home.

Yes I worked at two - I had worked at a school district as a clerk and just couldn't take it any more so I went to a call center in town and I absolutely loved it the last year I was quality control but I liked being on the phones - then when they closed I worked in a bank call center and I loved it too. Then I became disabled but if I ever worked again that is what I would do
-
No, but I thought about it, but have family members that works there.
-
I have but was just too nervous to be able to help anyone!

Hi, I worked at a call center for 9 years. I enjoyed the job very much. Talking to folks from around the world, learning about different places to camp here in the US. The hard part was having to learn so much and getting paid so very little.
-
I never worked at a call center and never would; that's not a good fit for me personally; I have friends that have and they enjoy it and do well their, I think you have to have the personality to work there and really enjoy talking consistently with people; just not me.
-
i've never workd at one and i feel bad for people who do , because people can be jerks on the phone .

I worked at a call center for a little over three years. It's not something I would ever want to do again.
One good thing that came out of the experience is that I tend to be mindful of how I speak to people when I call a company's customer service department.
-
I've worked in call centers most my life. Maybe you could find something working from home. There is companies who do chat and email. It might be a good change for you.

True. I worked for telephone company and I'd get a lot of people irate about their bill or service. When I call places I am nice even if I am annoyed because I remember how I used to be treated and also you get more flies with honey than vinegar. If someone called me and was nice even if they were a little mad I was more inclined to help them than if someone called yelling at me.

Yes I thought of that too. I thought about the online chat thing.

A good customer service call center person is worth a million bucks in my opinion. When a company hires a good one, it is doing itself a large favor. The goodwill that brings to a company from the public can't be matched.
-
I did many years ago and did not like it. It was very stressful; most people were calling becuase they were angry and it would put me in a bad mood whether i wanted to be or not.
-
The closest job I worked that relates to a call center I've done in the past was a telephone interviewer where I call people over the phone to conduct surveys. It was a fun job.
-
I worked at a call center one time. The work environment was nice but the commissioned pay was horrible. So was contacting deceased people because their records hadn't been updated in years, how horrible.
-
I even worked an at home call center job once. Great for people who don't mind talking to people, but I do; I'd rather communicate through email. I wouldn't mind being a chat rep though.

Yes years ago for about 3 months and it was for incoming calls for the phone company. Most of the callers were very nice.
