I am so sick and tired of being a slave to hair dye that I have decided to go grey. Is 61 to early to go grey?....are YOU grey/white yet? INQUIRING minds wants to know :)
-
It is your choice. No one is every forced to dye their hair.
-
I tried to let my hair be gray, but it looked so foreign to myself. So I went back to coloring it. I have family in the salon business, so I get it done professionally.
-
I have a friend and her daughter both who started greying in their 20's and just let it be natural. My self the grey looks like blonde highlights
-
My gray is more silvery/white. I've never tried to cover it. I'm in my late 50's. 8)

I've started seeing a lot more grey hairs in the last year. I like them actually, but I don't like my natural hair color. I use henna because chemical dye makes my hair fall out in clumps. It's a pain because it takes much longer to do, but my natural color is so boring.
-
in my family the women all go grey very early! My grandmother was grey at 18 :(
Right now my hair is grey and short, but it looks really nice, right now my hair looks like Jaime Lee Curtis with her short hair

I don't bother dyeing my hair. My daughter usually does it, once a year, when I visit her. I just don't care enough about it to put out the effort and expense. Funny story. I am 63 and pretty gray on top but the middle and bottom of my hair is still pretty brown. The last time I went to visit my daughter and her kids, she dyed my hair and it was quite a bit darker than she usually gets for me. Usually she's pretty close to my natural color. We did it when the kids were in school. When the youngest came home from preschool, she looked at me and immediately said, Oma! Your hair is so dark! I laughed and said, yes, Mommy dyed my hair this morning. She said, but, it's so dark! All day she commented on how dark my hair was. At night, when they went to bed, they wanted me to come in when they said their prayers so I did. She said, Oma, I like your hair better white. So, there you have it. Out of the mouths of babes!

:menorah: :santa: :snowflake: If you feel the need to not dye your hair you don't have to. Your hairs your personal choice. If you need to take a time away from dyeing it you can, you can go back to dyeing it at a later day if you feel like you need to. :menorah: :santa: :snowflake:

Two years fast my hair is graying so right now i decided to color it. I'm just so busy at work that I can't do it. I still young so just want to cover or maybe put high lites on it.
-
I think you should do whatever makes you feel good about yourself. It sounds like a big hassle to me now, but maybe I'll change my mind by the time I get there :p
-
Some grays are beautiful and some not so much. I would judge how much you like your color of gray and go from there. :icon_rr:

Thanks everyone so far it is coming out white and I am liking it :)
-
My Mom's Mom had beautiful silvery white hair. I hope mine turns out the same. :in-love:

I have two or three strands of grey hair already, but I don't plan on dying them. I don't want to dye them because once you start, you have to continue dying your hair. I rather wear wigs or weaves when I want to change up my look.

I started turning gray at 17 (Irish and American Indian) so I have colored for a long time. It males me feel better about myself. On the Irish side everyone has turned gray very young.

My hair would be quite grey, if I would quit using color on it. My girls talked me into coloring my hair a few years ago, and I have continued to go through the process about twice yearly. I do think covering my grey hair makes me feel younger. When I was growing up, there was a stigma about dying your hair. Anyone could spot dyed hair a mile off! But now, the process of coloring hair has been perfected to the point that it looks really natural. So I will keep covering my grey for a few more years.
-
I am a believer in going as natural as possible and love graying hair.
-
now that I'm 40 I use sun in to cover up gray
-
I am 67 years old and use to have my hair highlighted and roots touched up every 6 to 8 weeks. It was not very cheap to keep up with this. Last time I got it done was in December of 2017. I went to the hairdresser December of this year and cut my hair ( which was almost to my waist ) shoulder length. I am pleased with the look and my brown and silver hair looks like what my hair use to look like just brown and silver instead of brown and blond.

I started going gray in my mid 20s. Up until my 40s, it just looked like highlights in my hair. I tried dyeing it for a while, but for the last 10 or so years, I've just let it do what it does.
It's still dark in places, but the grey "highlights" have pretty much taken over. :)
-
Leave it gray, it is a sign of maturity and wisdom, dyeing it is just not only covering it up, but posible letting unsafe chemicals into your body, not healthy...
-
i t doesnt really matter on your age it matters on how you feel with or wiuthout it being dyed. Im in my 50's and have just decided to let it happmn
-
I just started to get a few gray hairs in my 50's and I use a temporary hair color you just brush on for a few gray hairs. I'm not sure what I'm going to do when my hair goes completely gray since I have so my problems with the chemicals in hair dye.
-
I am salt and pepper now. Not completely gray yet.
To make it look better, I have grey highlights around
my forehead done by the local beautician. She says:
"You have to look good when people look at you".
I agree with her opinion and comments.

Hello! :D :)
I've personally decided to let my hair grow naturally gray. I'm into being completely natural aging is a part of life there is nothing to be ashamed of as some never got the chance to. I tried dyeing my hair just once but it didn't work-out and since then I have never done it again. Do whatever makes you happy. :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:

I only have grays on one side of my head. It's so odd, so I'm dying it my natural color. I'm in my 30s, so the grays aren't too bad but ughhh.
-
Since I was a natural brunette, was a slave to coloring my hair every month when grey and silver came through in the middle. Now that the top of my hair has turned white, I dye my hair pale blonde every 3 or 4 months and the white hair blends in wonderfully with the blonde. Also, it actually makes me look younger!
-
Some grey hair is yellowish-so ugly. But then there are those who have silver grey which is beautiful. I have grey hair that I color sometimes, depending on how I am feeling.
-
I'm also 61 years old and I am salt and pepper hair. Keep it natural.
-
"To each their own," as they say. It is a personal choice. Far as I am concerned, I have dyed my hair for years and wouldn't stop. I think it help make me look younger and more vibrant, as it adds color to my face rather than pale. I actually look forward to refreshing my color about every 5 weeks!
-
I have it dyes, gray does not look well o me; and I have never been ones for wigs, although I have seen some beautiful ones just never got into that; but I may re-think in the near future.
-
Love yourself! Give it a go..... Its only hair. Think about all the women who have lost all their hair due to chemo!
-
I tried to just gogray. But I looked in the mirror, I feel better to color it.
-
Completely your choice :) Personally, if it was a chore for me I would go grey. I've been dying my hair since my teens every few months just to get a new fun color. As soon as I don't enjoy it I am stopping!
-
I am also completely gray but color my hair to cover it. I don't think it is too early for you to turn gray and it may be a source of some relief to you to learn that the current bunch of baby boomers find this the popular way to go - just leave it and forget about it.

I do see more, even younger than me grey, so YES I am going to leave it, thank you :)
-
I am 63 and have been gray for years. It seems like dying is a useless cost and problem I don't need
-
I am 50 and decided to just embrace the grey hair. As soon as the government reopens and I start working, I will go to my stylist and ask him to just do grey highlights and try to see what he can do to my front which is the one that part that bothers me the most. So I say embrace your grey hair, it is fashion now anyways
-
I color my Hair every Eight Weeks. I can not stand to see all of the Gray Hair.
-
I'm 74 and just decided to go gray. So far I am just getting lighter and lighter. Don't know when the all gray look will take over.
-
It's just my opinion, but NO! That's not too early. It's never too early if that's what is happening to you. We don't control when we start to go grey. I have some greys popping up and I have no intention of ever dying it.
-
I was a brunette and tired out of being a slave to dyeing the hair dark brown so I switched to dyeing it pale blonde which goes so well with the white/silver hair coming out. Only dye it every 3 or 4 months now.

One final hint:
Do not color your hair in the shower. Why?
When you rinse all those chemicals will be absorb by your skin.
You could suffer skin burns, allergic reactions or even worse poisoning.
Ask someone to help you. Use the kitchen sink to rinse. Do not get all those
chemicals on the rest of your body skin.

This is why I use henna. It's natural, and no chemicals to absorb. When I used chemical dyes, my hair started to fall out in clumps. :o

i am 57 and tired of dying every 4 to 6 weeks...so i am letting it turn gray or silver which it looks to be...also had my hair cut so it's not as bad as i thought it was...with the dye growing out it made it look worse..
-
I am in my 30s, so I do not have to worry about that (yet!), LOL. However, my grandmother is in her 90s and she still has black hair...which is a good sign for me from a genetic standpoint. Whew!
-
i ithink you should keep it the way you like it! If you don't mind the grey, go grey!! I love my hair to be colored....
-
I have been dying my hair for years. I started to go gray early. Unfortunately I have to do it often so I use the temporary touch up in between to stretch out how often I have to dye it. I just feel younger looking if my hair is my natural color. I guess I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet and admit I'm older. LOL
-
I have been dying my hair for more years than I can even remember. I don't know how much grey I would have if I didn't dye my hair.
-
There's nothing wrong with going grey if that's your natural color. Accept and embrace it.
-
My mother start to go gray in her mid 20s. Thankfully, I seem to have missed that gene (*knock on wood). She never bothered to spend the money on hair dye. So 61 seems like nothing in comparison. But choose whatever makes you happy and feel beautiful.
-
No 61 is not to young to go grey. I am almost 49 and have been turning grey for a few years now. I have just recently decided not to color my hair and completely go grey. Hair color has really done damage to my hair.
