Title: My quest to loose weight.
Post by: angietx on October 07, 2009, 09:04:25 am
Hi everyone,

I am currently overweight but i have made a few key decisions and have made it my goal to lose some weight.  So far in the last
6 weeks I have lost 20 lbs.  I would like to keep you all updated.  My goal is to loose another 50 to 60 lbs.  I could use some healthy
and easy to fix simple recipes.  Any ideas as to where I can find them.

Lots of good healthy eating sites. I don't know your health condition BUT if you check with your Dr. and can stand it ( My Mom did this and lost 25 lbs. ) search Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar. Great tips and recipes.

I want to be right on the line of being healthy but not underweight and I am 5'4" so that would be 115 lbs

I want to loose between 50-60 lbs

I have made some diet changes like healthy foods and not so much junk food

115 at 5'4"??? Wow. I'm 5'0" and wear a size 2 and am around 120 pounds. I could not imagine being 4 inches taller and weighing less. That is TINY.

I used to be overweight (maxed out around 160 pounds). I lost about 40 pounds in about 5 months with diet and exercise. Easiest diet changes for me was eliminating most dairy, sugar, alcohol. Exercise? I used a stair climber at home and pilates videos. After 4 months I joined a gym. 5.5 years later, I've since had a child, I still belong to my gym, and I still maintain my weight loss.

It is a life style change. Remember that.

:) If you want to shed those extra pounds, do not forget: No alcohol, no junk food, steam or bake your food-no deep frying...too much grease, exercise...walk, drink plenty of fluids to flush body toxins, design a reasonable diet for yourself. This also worked for me- 'shed some extra body fluids'. I used Diurex- a diuretic sold at Walmart...I lost about 15 pounds- it work wonders for me.

Cut out as much 'processed' food as possible.  Buy fresh!

i'm also trying to lose weight, but i'm trying not
to call it a "diet" ... otherwise i tend to feel
restricted or like i'm depriving myself. if i try to
look at it in a different light (like a challenge for
getting back into my favorite jeans, etc) i'm more
likely to follow through.

i've been drinking this:

which contains no high fructose corn syrup, unlike
the other teas that its placed with in the grocery store,
and it seems to be flushing me out or detoxing the
bowels and i can definitely tell a difference.

not to be gross  :)

i'm not relying solely on that, but i've replaced most
of the pop/sugary stuff i normally drink with this...

I am also on a quest to lose weight. I go to a doctor at FIGURE WEIGHT LOSS and he gives you a calorie count and some fat burning pills that are great!!! They are $100 for a 30 day supply but in 7 days I have lost 10 pounds and my father has lost 60 pounds in 2 months. So if you have one of these facilties around then I would highly recommend it!!

Veganism is very unhealthy. You need omega 3 and complete proteins, and you get pretty much none with veganism.
Any nutritionist will tell you this.

To everyone else, congratulations on your weight loss.

Thanks everyone for the advice.  Tomorrow is my weigh in day.  So far I know I've lost inches off my butt cause my pants drag the ground now, some even go under my foot and are too long now.  I will soon need to buy a few new clothes or take a chance at walking around n my pants fall down.  I have been eating mainly protein and vegetables.  Sticking with the proper serving size and only eating 3 meals a day.  I dont have a regular exercising program but my job is physical and requires me to walk too.  The only thing I need to do is exercise on my days off.  I'll be back tomorrow with my progress.

I`ve been trying to lose weight for about 8yrs and the only thing that has worked was some pills I got on a trial from another forum but they are expensive so I couldn`t order more.

That is really truly a great job. I wish I could lose weight like that. I am on a prescription diet pill and still have not been able to lose that in 6 weeks. I have lost only 10.

Well this week wasnt so good.  I didnt lose any weight but I knew this would happen, so as long as I dont start gaining weight I will
be fine.  I am following my doctors advice and eating 50 -60 grams of protein and eating a servicing size of vegetables.  I only eat
3 meals a day.  I'll be back next Friday with another update.

being on a diet is so hard. good luck. I lost quick weight by eating a banana, apple or 1 egg with a slimfast shake in the morning, a egg, tuna, or chicken salad for lunch with a glass a water or juice then a healthy choice tv dinner or really anything everybody else is having but a small portion i like to measure it by placing my hands side by side then it would be a hand and a half with a piece of fruit and lots of water to get full. for snacks I would eat cucumber or any piece of fruit, peanuts no salt, or light popcorn a 2 handfuls only. excerise for at least 20 mintues if you can, morning was best for me before everyone gets up, bath and your set to go. ;D

I think something in green tea makes you lose weight! I guess just working out a lot and keeping a healthy appetite without overeating will help.

You should check out caloriecount.com. I have used that site for years to track my wieght and count my calories. :) I have recently taken to eating allot of subway sandwiches since it is low cal right down stairs from me and oh so delicious! I love salt and vinager chips but instead of eating those at 200+ calories a bag I eat the light regular  Lays dipped in vinager for a whole 75 calories!!! :D Yummy!

Good for you! That is a great job.  You can try some of your favoite receipes but make some changes to them....reduce flour and substitue cornstarch for thickening sauces.  Use a non stick spray instead of butter or oil.  Use more veggies (garlic - just a little makes many low fat meals taste better without upping the salt)  Also, one that helped me was....drink water when I feel hungry and always shoot a glass before I sit down to a meal.

Use a smaller plate, take a deep breath before you begin to eat, eat sitting down, put down the utensil between bites and chew slowly. Enjoy your meal, stop when you hit that just full feeling. Do that and write down what you eat each day.

I too am trying to conquer the same battle but I have diabetes, high cholesterol, and many problems with my stomach including reflux (and possibly an ulcer) so with all of the limitations of all of these different things some of them almost conflict each other.  Like diabetics are not supposed to have many carbs but people with stomach troubles have to eat bland foods which is mostly carbs, and some days all I can eat is a few crackers all day long which is terrible for my diabetes since I'm supposed to stay away from them and supposed to eat small frequent meals, and sometimes can't eat at all, which is awful for losing weight because it slows your metabolism.  I am stuck floating between 220 and 225 until the doctors can figure out this stomach stuff I guess.  I wish all of you luck in your journeys to your weight loss goal mine is 165 to 170 but it will have to wait for now.

since the 1960's we have controlled our weight by counting calories and weighing in each morning - to keep our weight at our ideal we have 900 calories per day - we arrived at this by first 2 weeks eating what ever we wanted - counted the calories each day - next 2 weeks we reduced the daily calories by 50 - 2 weeks later we reduced the calories by 50 more - this we continued until our early morning weight began to decrease - we are able to control our weight just by counting calories - we have what ever we want but the daily calories must stay within range - when we travel - we do not worry so much about the calories although we tend to watch how much we eat - never more than 3 ozs of any protein - any fruit we want - any sweets - any vegs - when we return home again we weigh ourselves and restart the process - recently we were in New York City - ate very well - gained over 7 lbs - when we returned home it took 7 months to get back to our ideal weight - but this was done slowly with no sense of  anxiety or concern - we knew we would slowly return to our ideal weight - we take no meds only vitamin supplements which we have been taking since the 1960's - no aches - no pains - have dessert every night - eat 3 main meals and 2 snacks each day - hope this helps - by the way we have 8 - 8 ozs of water each day - Health, Happiness, Peace, and Positive Perspective - IMHO >> In My Humble Opinion - The MUSEUM, Zazzle

Congratulations!  I would recommend eating stuff with jasmine rice!  Whether it's bacon, egg, steak, chicken, ribs etc. I would eat it with a bowl of rice.  Instead of eating 3 or 4 pieces of chicken/steak/pork you would eat one or two pieces of chicken and rice, same fullness, but less of the fatty foods.  Look into Vietnamese food.  I eat tons and still manage a thin/average physique.  Good luck!
