Title: House Plants
Post by: tnshpalmer85 on February 20, 2019, 05:52:49 pm
Does anyone have any house plants? I like to see house plants in the home. I realized that I really enjoy nature so I like the idea of bringing a little nature into the home.

I have one nice plant on a counter that my son's cat's can't get to because so many plants are toxic to them. They are old cats and when they pass I don't intend to have animals but I will have more plants.  They are good for cleaning your inside air.

I love plants, I used to try to have as may as I could, but had to give up and admit that the humidity and light levels in my house are not enough for most of them. All I have is lots of pothos now, which puts up with a lot of abuse.

Yes!  I have always had house plants.  Now I keep most of them on our porch in Florida.  They are also good for your home.  Certain plants clean the indoor air!

Nope, a couple of silk plants.  I killed all the plants, even killed a cactus.  Not that I have anything against plants just couldn't remember to water them.  I just blame it on having the cats ans wanting to be safe. lol

sadly the lighting is  not in the right places for my plants here. although when I  was living in my apartment  I  had  patio doors to the south and  plants were every  where also my  dining room.  My birds loved the plants. I would come  home and open the curtains more and let them out and they were  all over and around the plants.   they stayed out  for several hours unless I had  company. I didn't want the little ones trying to catch the birds.  Then we I put them back into the cage they would  sing until covered.  Don't have any more now. But am  thinking about  getting more but we are not always home and I  would need a  person to come and clean and feed every day and I don't want to bother anyone.

If you don't have much sunlight, you can get a golden pothos. Those things are vampires that hate the sun. I had mine near a north facing window and it almost died. I moved it further back into my apartment away from all windows and it's doing great.

As much as I would like to have live plants in my house I stick to the fake kind.  My mom and sister inherited the green thumbs in the family .. I, however, did not.  I kill them all off.

I have two Christmas cacti and two african violets. I also have three pepper plants I'm trying to keep alive to plant in the garden when it warms up and the snow melts...probably in July. LOL.  I used to have around 15 houseplants, but it gets burdensome because they all have different lighting, watering requirements.

I love live plants in a home but I am the original plant killer.  I have killed off so many that I only take on one at a time now and often go for periods without any plants.  I recently gave a plant I had kept alive for over 3 years to a friend because it was looking rather poorly and my friend has a green thumb.  I figured maybe it would have a chance of survival with her!

I have had the same house plants for about 45 years and they are still going strong. I have mostly dieffenbachias, spider plants and Wandering Jew plants. I try to repot them every year and to start a few new ones from cuttings so I can give plants to friends and neighbors. It is good to have plants in your house because they keep your air fresh plush they give a really homey feel to a room.

Of course. They provide oxygen, look nice sitting there and can actually make you feel better.

Naturally, I talk to them and they always agree with everything I say. Imagine that!  :rose:

haha.  My aunt had some house plants and she told me she sat them beside the TV and left the TV on during the day sometimes for the plants.  I asked her why and she said "well you are suppose to talk to them".

I think first off, a lot of people do not grasp the reason of WHY you are suppose to talk to your plants.

Second, I think most people who are plant people do talk to their plants.  I mean they are alive. :D

My mom has a lot of spider plants in the house I grew up in. I have some succulents and this weird plant I got on the last day at my old job. It is supposedly the longest blooming plant and I have to water it by putting ice cubes in the pot once a week.

My mother had a green thumb and I grew up surrounded by house plants.  We always had a couple of African violets, and I remember her growing big, beautiful plants from avocado seeds.  I have a variety of my own plants, but they don't thrive as well as my mother's.  However, I do have a pot of chives that has been in my windowsill for several years, and I have two poinsettias left over from the last two Christmases.  My 2017 poinsettia is a little confused, though, because it is just now presenting it's bright red leaves.

No, I can't say I have house plants but I like to do floral arrangements.  I have dozens of fake flowers around the house because for me, the time it takes to make the arrangement at least fake flowers last forever while the real stuff dies within a week so it's like you did all that for nothing.

I love to see living plants all around the house. Sadly, I rarely have time to take care of myself much less plants. We had a Ficah tree for twelve years and a Jade plant for about eighteen years. They were both gigantic but I never had time to replace them. I was good at watering them every fe days but the soil was totally depleted and there was no where for the roots to go. I was very surprised that my twenty two year old daughter was saddened at the loss of the jade plant. I guess one gets sentimental about things that are in their life, and surroundings, for a large part of their life. She was filled with melancholy when we lost a tree that had stood at the entry to our driveway for two decades. I had to point out that  death is inevitable which wasn't much comfort.
