Do you leave your butter out to stay soft? I have always been afraid of doing so but now heard so many on facebook and friends and family that do so I am going to try it. Can't be margarine only real butter but that is all we eat.
-
I don't use real butter. I do use margarine and i keep it in the refrigerator. You can google it to find out what is best to do
-
:P I do it all the time...
-
Yup, I leave it out. My mom always did and still does. Hasn't killed me yet. LOL

No. It can be left out for a while but does need to be refrigerated. Our Walmart at Christmas time use to take pallets out of the cooler and put on the floor and leave for a few days then put back in the cooler what did not sell then leave it there until they put it in the cooler to sell. I do not see how that was safe at all. But they did not care what my thoughts on it were. lol
-
No... it all stays refrigerated unless it is set out for awhile at a dinner or event.
I refrigerate Peanut Butter, too & people say it's supposed to be left out, but to me it just sounds gross

Make sure the butter doesn’t spoil!
-
My daughter always leaves her butter out to stay soft so I do the same which, at one time, was against my better judgment. I claim that it is totally safe and much easier to spread. :icon_rr:
The following info is taken from the website Kitchn: "Butter is, after all, made from cream, so there is logic in thinking that it, like cream, should also be stored in the fridge — but there’s a difference. The primary component of butter is fat (at least 80 percent). High fat combined with low water content make for a less-suitable environment for bacterial growth.
Factors leading to spoiled butter are exposure to air and light, so keep it in a covered butter dish or butter crock that will protect it from both air and light, and help to keep it at a steady temperature to stay cool enough to hold its shape.
The climate where you live is also an important factor, with cooler climate areas being more favorable to room-temperature storage. If the temps in your kitchen go much above 70°F, it’s best to leave butter in the fridge.
When left at room temperature, salted butter fares better than unsalted, as the salt content also makes it less prone to bacterial growth."

Only when I am getting ready to use it.
-
I only leave butter out if the recipe calls for the butter to be softened. Other than that I leave butter in the refrigerator the rest of the time.
-
We always have one stick out at room temperature in my house. I prefer that it stays covered in its little container, but someone always forgets, so it's not only out but exposed a lot. Looks like I've survived so far :p
-
For years I always left a stick out in my butter dish and never ever had any problem but I now use a different kind and I keep it in fridge
-
No, I won't leave butter out.

I have never done that. I don't know if it makes a difference or not. I know cookies always say "softened" but mine is fridge soft. lol
-
Not all the time here, It just depends on if I really need it fast or not if not I just saw through it with a knife.
-
I leave it out most of the time without a problem. During the summer if it's really hot, I put the butter in the fridge.
-
I usually leave one stick out and put the rest in the refrigerator.
-
I keep mine in refrigerator, I usually buy soft butter.
-
I do love the stick butter over the tub. I only can eat the margarine non dairy. Do you remember the nice maybe even crystal butter dishes Must get another the cover helps keep freshness with beauty :present:
-
I have never done that but that's a good idea :)
-
I keep mine in the fridge.
-
It's always in the fridge. We just slice it with a knife. Don't want contamination.
-
Usually not, however I know grand parents had no problem never refrigerating it. They never got sick either
-
 :in-love:   My parents would leave butter out most of the time as a kid. I now leave my butter in the fridge. If I'm baking something that needs soft butter, I now place that butter in the microwave for a short time to soften the butter. :in-love:

I leave mine out all the time. I use a butter ball. Go on Amazon and check them out. I love it and several of my friends use them. We always have soft butter, check them out.
-
I leave it out, but only just a half stick at a time, and we use it up quickly. But I do leave out stick to soften for cookies. I have found if you heat the sugar or brown sugar slightly and then mix it in with the butter it helps whip it up.
-
Yes, I have a butter dish and we have a stick of butter on it that we leave on the counter in the colder months. In the summer time, we have to leave it in the refrigerator.
-
It Depends. Sometimes I do not usually it’s in the fridge.
-
No, I do not do that.
-
I always keep butter in the fridge, other than that no.
-
no I leave my butter in the fridge, and I also use margarine.
-
No, only when I am about to use it
-
My grandma and mom always left it out. Dh and I are a Country Crock family.
-
Yes! I always leave some butter out on the counter to stay soft. My sister in law's husband got on her case for leaving butter out for just a few hours. I always have butter out on the counter in a bowl with a cover.
-
I have always left butter out to stay soft, usually in a tupperware container. It turns out that keeping butter in the fridge is a matter of preference, not of food safety.
There are some caveats, but, according to some experts, salted butter in an airtight container, like a crock, is perfectly fine to leave out on the counter for up to two weeks. That's right: two weeks that you can enjoy perfectly spreadable butter for your crumpets and muffins and toast and what have you, without worrying about the dread block of chilled butter interrupting your spreading game.
-
Depends on what we are cooking in the next few day. IF several things need butter I will leave it out.
-
i just heat up a butter knife for five seconds each side and slice what i want for butter
-
i dont use butter to leavce out i buy a soread that comes in a tub that you leave refrigerated
-
No but I hate when I leave the butter out on a hot stove and didn't attend to.
-
no, to many things can get on it
-
no, don't need to attack anything i don't want to eat
-
I use butter to infrequently too, but I would if I used it more. I leave a half a stick of unsalted butter out for the cats as a hairball preventative/treatment.
-
No, I always refrigerate butter.
-
keep it out!
-
Only if I am a using a recipe that requires it.
-
Depends for me but i've learned not to leave the butter on top my stove if i'm baking hahahahah makes for a big mess ! i was making a roast and had been to the store , stoves next to my fridge , set the pound of butter on the stove and kept doing other things and unpack what i' d bought needless to say the whole pound was all over the top and was hard to clean up .
-
I only take mine out when I'm getting ready to use it. The longest has been around 30 minutes.
-
I never do this.
-
The only time I use real butter is at Thanksgiving for stuffing and basting the turkey and when I am baking at Christmas. So I do let my butter soften at this time of year. Many cookies recipes call for soften butter
-
No, but my tenant is always doing this. I don't get it. Seems like a good way to get germs/bacteria in the butter.
-
No, I don't leave the butter out.
-
I only leave butter out to soften if I am going to use it for baking or cooking on the same day.
-
I only leave a stick or 2 out at a time, and I keep it in a bowl with a snap on lid. The remainder sticks are in the fridge.
-
I never leave my butter out because hubby doesn't like soft butter. He'd rather rip the bread apart spreading it.
-
We leave our butter dish on the counter all the time, but in the winter I still gets hard. We would rather wear a hoodie than turn up the heat and pay more for utilities.
-
no my butter stays in the fridge i bought a spray butter when i need it fast ! or put it in the microwave !
-
We don't eat real butter because it is so fattening plus there are much healthier versions of margarine that taste just great like Smart Balance. But I think it is OK to leave butter out to keep it soft.
-
I don't leave the butter out for too long, but sometimes while cooking.
-
I leave one in the butter keeper in the fridge.
-
Keep it on the referigerator, and take out about 30 minutes before you use it
-
On the Day that I prepare a meal, I always take my Butter out to soften while I cook. It makes it so much easier to spread on my Bread and Potatoes.
-
No I leave mine in the fridge, I always have until I get ready to use it.
-
yeah sometimes but if you put if on something warm its like it melts itself plus im pretty sure the fridge keeps it fresh longer.
-
mine stays in the fridge...i will set it out if i need it for a recipe...but not long before making it...
-
If I leavce it out too long here in FL,it gets mold. I keep it in refrig and TRY to rememsber to remove it on day when I know we will use it.
