Title: Luggage
Post by: JaniceSW on April 04, 2019, 07:42:53 am
Do you have enough luggage and the type of luggage to go on a major vacation of over 10 days or so? If you do, is it old or fairly new?  I have luggage but it is about 20 years old.  However, since I travel so little, it looks fairly new.  Just wondering since I am thinking of going on such a trip in the next several years.

I have luggage that is older also looks new because like you we don't travel as much anymore.  Fixed incomes makes it harder to travel

We got new luggage about 6 years ago.  It replaced luggage that was probably 20 years old.

A store at the mall was having a end of the month sale so I was able to buy 4 pieces of luggage for a great price!  Can't wait until my vacation so I can use it!

I never travel for longer than two weeks and haven't gone any where cold for a few decades so I am good packing a pair of shorts, jeans, for under armour t-shirts, four pair of underwear, one polo shirt, Asics running shoes, one dress shirt, hair brush, toothbrush, and a pair of socks into whatever back pack currently carries my computer. I wear a pair of shorts, t-shirt, polo shirt, sweat shirt, teva sandals, G Shock watch and a Wisconsin Badger's baseball cap turned backwards. This covers all occasions, can be carried on and fits under the seat in front of me. I have yet to pay any luggage fees for my own personal items. My wife will fill two large suit cases for a four day trip. My kids have followed my lead although I usually have to make sure that they clean the clothes before they pack them.

I bought new luggage ( 3 pieces, large, medium and carry on) 6 years ago, when I went on 10 day trip to Ghana, I carried the largest and carry on only, I roll clothes to save space and also use these clothes type smaller bags which I packed different types of clothing in each and just dropped in the large suit case; again to save space! In carry on whenever I travel, I  always have a complete change of clothing or two  in my carry on in case the airline misplaces the checked luggage! ??? Now days with having to pay to check  luggage; I try to mix and match;  one pair of jeans can be worn several times with different tops!  hope this helps, happy traveling.

I have a couple of nice size suitcases that someone gave me and they are a good quality suitcase. I used it once when we went to see our kids on vacation and they are not too heavy even packed with stuff

I have luggage that is fairly new, not more than 5 years old. My old luggage was in such bad shape we got rid of it and bought two new bags. One was from Costco and it is the largest bag you can legally get in an overhead bin on an airplane and the other is a big bag designed for car trips and train or bus trips where there is no size limit.

My luggage is less than 5 years old (I have a 3 piece set) and my 19 years old daughter bought a carry on for herself, but I do travel at least once a year to visit my in-laws out of the country.  Last year the whole family went (4 adults 2 grand children) and I ended up having to buy more (I got another 3 piece set), we where allowed 2 suitcases each (minus 1 baby than did not pay) plus carry on, the lady at the counter was very impress that we did not take our carry on with us and checked all of it.  Seriously, we were going for 3 weeks but still who the hell is going to have 10 suitcases.  So far the luggage all looks good and the newer luggage are light weight with good rolling wheels, the best

My luggage is brand new. For under $50 you can buy a new 5-piece set of luggage at
JCPenney when they go on sale. Watch your local newspaper or look it up on their website.
Sometimes, they are only $39.99. Save even more by printing JCPenney coupons. These
5-piece luggage sets are stronger and have really good sets of wheels.

I had basic bags but purchased nice bold luggage over 10 years ago so I could pick them out when I would fly.  I stopped flying but still use them for my trips.  I can pack for a month if I have to.

Are you talking about suitcases? Or the actual luggage which is the clothes in side of the bags?  I have a suit case and I have had it for probably 30 years.  It is nice and still looks nice.  I do not travel a lot.

You need to be sure of what kind of luggage you take on the trip because you get  charged a lot for it.  When I went to Alaska I just took too pieces, one for the overhead and one for the rest of the  clothes, I only took enough for a week. the  I bought some new clothes there and  sent the others  back  via mail. Yes I went with the intent of buying some new  clothes.  The motels all had  washers for customers, and when  traveling in the motor home  the parks would have them also. So it was  easy for us to have clean clothes and we were  gone for almost  three weeks traveling up there.

Most of my luggage is pretty old. I definitely want to get some new luggage soon, particularly with 4 wheels.

Depends on where you are going to vacation, who is apart of your travel group, etc. Am sure it is somewhere hot so that means you may not need some much of a heavy suitcase, and if it is all inclusive then you may not need to carry too much.

I actually have a luggage set and tend to take both the carry-on and the large case.  The secret for taking things that last over a week is in the packing.  If you aren't doing suts/dresses then ROLL everything!  Put toiletries all together a plastic bag.  Rolling pants/ undergarments/t-shirts etc. into cinnamon bun shape you can easily place five things side by side in a space that folding would only allow you maybe three at best if you put them on top of each other.

We just bought new luggage a few years back and could not be happier.
But if money is tight and your old luggage still works fine then I guess "if it aint broke don't fix it"!
But the new style luggage with the 360 degree turning radius is awesome!! I like the fact that you don't have to "tilt" the bag and roll it behind you. Sometimes I still do it that way,...but most of the time just grabbing the handle and pushing it while it is upright seems more comfortable to me personally.

I don't think luggage ever gets out of style unless yous is old enough that it doesn't have wheels.  I remember when the wheeled luggage first came out how much I envied those who could just pull the suitcases while I was carrying mine! :sad1:

I have a set of a large suitcase a small suitcase and a travel bag.  I only use the small suitcase once in a while.  I don't travel or go on vacations.

The last time I went on a long trip, I carried two duffel bags, and that was more than I needed.

There is a lot of changes in the airlines industry, for example the size of the carry ons, etc, you might have to buy new ones to replace the older and heavier ones..

I've never traveled with luggage because I've never flown on a plane or needed luggage for anything.

We each have a large rolling duffel.  After that, it's backpacks or whatever we might have.

check with your airline if you are going to fly to see their restrictions, and if you are driving then plan your route with extra items as weather conditions may change without warning.

You should be fine with your luggage. They usually very durable. I would recommend to pack light. I work with travelers and they pack way too much stuff. If you pack lean and light most likely you won't need a porter.

I don't travel that much, but my luggage would hold enough items for the trip.

I need to invest in a nice set of luggage because I want to do a fair amount of traveling in my life. But for most short trips the bag I use currently still works and counts as a carry-on if needed.
