I'm going stir crazy. I want to go camping SO BADLY! We haven't gone camping for about 2 or 3 years, because my dog at the time was too old and arthritic to travel anywhere. This past month, we haven't had the best weather, and I've got a terrible cold right now (thanks to hubby for that), but it's finally starting to warm up. I cannot wait to get outside, go for a hike in the woods, sit around a campfire, stare up at the stars that I can't see in the city, listen to all the little sounds that make big noises in the dark, feel my smallness in this giant crazy world.
Does anyone else love to go camping? Do you have any favorite places to go?

We used to camp just about every weekend when I was growing up. It was fun then. Not so much now that I am the adult who has to do everything (cook, set up camp, etc.). Now I'd much rather sleep in a bed than in a sleeping bag on the floor.

All the set up is part of the fun! Unless it's raining. We bring an inflatable mattress. :)

I Love to go Camping and Fishing. To just be out in the Wilderness where no one else is just brings so much Peace all over me. I Love to take the Boat out into the Lake a Fish off of the Boat. I also Love Sun Bathing on the Boat. You get more Sun that way. The water attracks the Sun so I will get a faster Tan.

Never been a fan of camping.
-
Wow the last time I went camping was almost 37 years ago when I was pregnant with our oldest son. When we were dating and first married there was a whole group of us who went camping and growing up my mom took us camping. I loved it.
-
Camping is something that I have never been interested in trying. I like my comforts like a bed, room service and also maid service when I'm on vacation.
-
We went camping more when all 4 fours kids were home. But since I only have 1 girl left at home and she is not a fan of it so we don't go as often. My husband and I try to go at least once during he summer.

Camping does not seem to make as much sense, now, as it did when I was a kid and my parents did all the preparation. Camp sites always seem to be over crowded-especially during three day weekends. Going up on a Friday Afternoon and coming back really early on a Monday morning requires that your Thursday and Monday evenings are spent packing and unpacking. Even now, with it being just my wife/me, we need to spend at least an hour packing a tent, camp gear (stove, light, etc.) bedding, dog food, leashes, overnight bags, clothes, cooler with ice, and groceries chosen for ease of cooking. After taking time to pack this (and the dogs) into the car, we look at a two to two and a half hour drive to a camp site, unpack/set up camp for two hours and pass out. Early Monday morning (to avoid traffick) we spend two hours packing up, two hours driving back, two hours unpacking and cleaning. This nets us about 24 hours of time spent awake camping.

My family camped a lot when our kids were growing up and I loved it and wish I could go again

We haven't been camping for several years. We used to go camping when the kids were little. I loved sitting by the campfire and taking hikes with the kids.
-
I like the outdoors just not the camping part. Hope you get to go soon.

OR you could do like a group of people I go to church with....
They all have campers that cost more than most people's houses. So all they do is hook it up to a truck and pull it somewhere and live there for a few days. Not really camping but they call it camping. haha
-
It is time for it. I need to bring my bed though, I have binoculars.
-
Camping is not for me. I'm too afraid of bugs and I don't like the idea of sleeping outside, even if I'm in a tent haha.

Well it isn't like a tent offers a lot of protection against predators. Human or animals.
-
Not any more. We use to years ago, but now it just doesn't appeal to me anymore. :-\
-
I've never been camping. In theory, it sounds like a lot of fun... but I bet in practice I wouldn't care for it. I'd rather go for a hike in the forest and then go to sleep in a comfy bed indoors away from bugs and murderers.
-
I'm not really into camping, but my boyfriend and I like going to parks to with hiking trails and just exploring the nature in our own town. I wasn't excited about the idea at first, but I kinda like it now.

I understand not wanting to sleep around bugs, but where does the "murderers" comment come from?

I haven't been camping since I was a child. It was so much fun though. All of us kids slept in a tent while the adults stayed in a camper. Some of my favorite childhood memories.

Haha! Petacon is fine with hiking with bugs and murderers though.

I used to love going camping but I have not been in a while. I would love to go again this summer.

Yeah there's that too!
Aside from being asleep and by extension less "alert", I think a hiker is far more susceptible to bug bites and crazed axe murderers than a camper. Of course, when I consider "camping" I envision a group activity in a campground as opposed to solitary isolation in the backwoods and I think of hiking as a more individual activity. Since there is typically safety in numbers, I would feel safer in the tent at night than out hiking alone.
I used to camp a lot as a child and a young adult, but it's probably been 20 years since I went roughing it. My wife just isn't into it. But she "lets" me ride the rollercoasters which she is even less into - so I can give up the one for the other!
-
I don't have many opportunities to camp. Last Labor Day my daughter and I drove from Colorado through Wyoming up to Montana. We camped outside Big Sky and in the Tetons. It was a beautiful time of year for it and we had a lot of fun.

Not "a lot" of protection, no, but definitely "a lot" more than just out in the open under the stars. If a bear or a human wants in at any cost - they're going to get in. But I think they are less likely to harm or attack a tented person than an untented person.

Very true. Although I have to admit, I've never once considered the possibility of being murdered while either camping or hiking. Top of my list is injury and/or death, especially when in the mountains, because I'm a bit of a klutz. The entire time I'm hiking up a mountain, I imagine tripping over a tree root or rock and whoops... bouncing on my head all the way down the mountain. LOL

Well probably so. lol. I do not think I would want to ever just sleep under the stars. I don't think bears just go up and randomly attack and eat humans. But you can run in to bears on hiking trails in the day time. Most people who end up getting hurt, and the bear killed, are people who try to take a picture with the bear.

i agree camping just isnt my idea of a good time
-
Never camped before and may not even give it a try, It just does not seem like something I would do but my friends have done it and enjoyed it so good for you guys/gals.
-
I like to be in the outdoors, but not for an extended period of time Camping overnight is enough for me. a whole weekend is a little too long.
-
I regret never going camping when I was younger....I wish I would have been able to - it sounds like a lot of fun and a good experience (That can teach you a lot).
-
I feel you!!! We went camping last year but it feels like an eternity. The campground we go to use to do reservations a year in advance - so when we went 4th of July weekend, we could book the next year as we checked-in. Unfortunately they now book in January, so it's a little harder. This year, January 2019, they booked for all of 2020.

I love camping and walking through trails, looking at nature. I take tons of photos of birds, trees, flowers. Here in VA, I usually do Leeslyvania State Park since one can hike and being right by the river, one can do boating or fishing. I just love the way the sun glints against the water. My best photos are right there at the water
-
I haven’t been camping in 30 years. The situation would need to be right in order to go again.
-
My idea of camping is staying in a cabin. lol With running hot water.
-
I like to One of my best most happy memories was a camping trip to the Grand Canyon. Camped out in tent and hiked every day. I love hiking!
-
I hate camping, I can't go anywhere with out a bug attracted to me.
-
I have never been a fan of camping. If somebody else loves it, that's fine with me. I know a number of people do! My idea of camping is staying at a 3 star hotel rather than a 4 star. When my power goes out for more than an hour (please don't let this happen), I am stressed and hate it. I am a true girl who loves her comforts and modern conveniences. I commune with nature by walking some of the trail systems around here for an hour or so several times each month!
-
I also adore camping, which we haven't done in a long time either. We used to go all the time when our kids were young. My favorite spot of all was Prince Edward Island in Canada - pristine beaches, camp sites spaced quite a distance apart from one another, beautiful forest, etc.
-
I don't like camping, especially where I live.
-
My nephew just purchased a camper and I plan to visit him in Utah next year so we can go camping. My sister just got back and said it was like being in a hotel. It really had to be nice if she enjoyed it.
-
I do enjoy camping. If I could have a souped up rv I'd be one happy camper. (badumdum - no pun intended) In fact I've dreamed of and have made plans to become a full time rv'er. I've done the tent camping thing - and while younger that was fun I don't have as much energy for it now. Maybe when my husband and I don't have kids to entertain and feed I'll feel differently about tent camping - it's a lot of work.
