Title: 1st car

My Grandson bought his first car and we would like to get him something for it. any suggestions? My daughter got him car mats already.

Maybe you can get him a subscription to one of the music companies. Then he can have unlimited music which would be commercial free. If not that, get him AAA automobile card for towing etc.

I really like hkckk5's suggestions. I think the music subscription would be useful for entertainment, especially for a young person, and the AAA membership would be invaluable if the car ever breaks down or gets a flat tire. If you're looking for something a bit cheaper, then something to hang on his rear view mirror might be pretty cool.  :peace:

Not all cars come with satellite radio.

I would get him an AAA membership of a gift card at a gas station, or a visa gift card and tell him it's for a full up.

I think a gas card is the better idea. A music subscription could end up doing more harm than good - especially if he is a young/new driver. Music vs. gas card = distractions vs. practical...

I'm in favor of the gas card as well. What's better then not having to use your own money as a young adult to get gas?

How much should I get it for ? LOL...that is a good idea, I was thinking as well a medal of safe driving for his visor?....something with St Christopher on it

Air fresheners, steering wheel covers, if he likes sports something sport related!

I like the gas card idea. Or some cleaning products to help take care of it.

I agree with the gas card and if it is not under warranty maybe a couple of oil changes when he needs them

That depends on you.  How much money do you have?  How much is gas in your area?  If gas is $4.50 in your town then $20 will not get you much gas.  If gas is $2 something then $20 will get you quite a bit.

As for the medal with St Christopher on it (not sure who or what that even is) again that would depend on you. I am assuming it has something to do with Catholics?  So that would depend on your alls beliefs.

I thought the St Christopher medal would have been nice but I guess my Grandson doesn't think so. I don't get it, I brought my daughter up Catholic but her kids are *bleep* Nilly when it comes to religion. For some reason Countrygirl that really bothers me :(

I second this suggestion! Set him up for success from a maintenance perspective

Hmmm I wonder why there is a "bleep" there? I said *bleep* Nilly...I didn't think that the word *bleep* was a bad word lol

If you are a certain religion and you bring up your children in that religion and they later reject it or you have grandkids who reject your religion then I can understand why it would bother you.  As for the "bleep" I think it is hilarious at some of the words it will beep out.  smh

I mean I had a guy I went to school with named W-i*ll-ie  so it obviously is not bad.  You got to get creative to get your words to show up.  You know them round things that kids play with and bounce them?  Yeah it will bleep that out too.  Makes it look like something you are saying is bad.

If you want to get that for him I would.  He may put it in his car even if he doesn't embrace the Catholic faith.

I use to have a steering wheel cover that I really liked.  But you have to make sure you get the correct size.  Found that out the hard way.  You could also maybe get a gift card for somewhere like Advanced Auto or Auto Zone.  But things are a lot more expensive there.  You could do Walmart and then he can get what he wants.  Put in a card and specify it is for car stuff  ;D

Don't you hate it when it does that to you. lol  The majority of people who post in here are not saying bad words.  I finally did figure out FC is doing the bleep though. smh  And most of these softwares you can not say B-a*ll without getting bleeped out but can spew the F word freely and it doesn't kick that out.

I was just about to respond that a St. Christopher medal would be an EXCELLENT idea, and then I read your post above.
 :-\

Maybe that combined with a gas card would work? Is grandson dead set against it, or just not overly enthusiastic about it? If it is something that he is embarrassed about other people/friends seeing it, is it something he would be willing to put in his glove box or console?

I have a St. Christopher necklace medal hanging from my rear view mirror and have had it in all of my cars since the mid-90's. Very unobtrusive to sight lines, but still there for me to see.

St. Christopher is the patron saint of travelers and his medals are commonly placed in vehicles.

Well in that case, unless you think it would create more harm than is worth it; I might be inclined to ask him directly and possibly even explain why it means what it means to you. Without knowing the full family dynamic - is that something your daughter would get upset with you about?

I wouldn't perceive my mother wanting to give my child a religious article as overstepping on her part. But my mom and I are pretty closely aligned in our belief systems. I know sometimes that can be a touchy subject in some family dynamics.

Gas card sounds good.  Seat covers, emergency roadside kit, jumper cables.

My first car had the St Christopher medal permanently glued to the dashboard.
I was only 12 years old when I sat on the driver sit and taught the first lessons
     on how to drive.
Like parent...like kid! Let us amicably share the road.
Get him some wool blankets for inclement weather.

Darn I can't imagine only thing I can think of is rear view mirror charms or something neat to hang from his rear view mirror. Or maybe a gift certificate to somewhere to get oil changes etc if he isn't going to do his own.

How about a vehicle emergency kit? I used to keep one in the trunk of my car. It contained things for breakdowns and accidents, like jumper cables, tire gauge, tools, flashlight, batteries, blanket, first aid stuff, duct tape, road flares, etc.

I definitely need to start saving up for a car. I wan't to pay it in full up front instead of having a payment every month. Especially since I am still a student and have no income. I would love a gas card that would be the most useful thing in my opinion.
