Little Johnny's teacher, Mrs. Wagner, announced that she wanted each student to write a report on what they wanted to be and why. The report was due at the end of the week.
Little Johnny knew what he wanted to be, so the report was going to be easy.
Friday came and each student had to get up in front of the class and read their report. Johnny heard about aspirations to be dancers, dentists, movie stars, doctors, and veterinarians.
Johnny's report was different...unique.
Johnny went on for several minutes about his dream job. To sum up his report, Johnny wanted to become a garbage collector and his number one reason was that they only worked on Thursdays.
Believe It or Not!
Johnny may have had a few facts wrong, but being a garbage collector is considered to be one of the BEST JOBS!

Well Mr. oldbuddy, there are several reasons why I wouldn't and don't think its a good job, first, I don't like being outside in the heat, second, it smells, third, and don't like having to ride on large trucks especially one that goes to dump sites. I'm an inside person, always have been.

Wow I bet they get paid good. Most of us wouldn't even consider it seeing as how nasty the job has to be.

You do realize than now days in most locations, they don't even touch the cans. A hydraulic arm picks them up and dumps them in the truck where they are compresses, Then at the end of the day, they open the back and push a button to have them shoved out into the dump site.

When I was younger they use to pay extra for trash men. Because it did use to be nasty. I think now they are on line with the rest of the city workers.

Interesting....thanks for sharing....

Very interesting article. Thank you Old Buddy for sharing.
Probably not my thing as lifting heavy cans would be hard for me.

That's so true. That started in my neighborhood about 2 years ago.

I have heard that they get paid good for the work they have to do.

Twice a week they go by and pick up the trash, I have never seen one get out of the truck to do it. Just pick up the dumpster with arms on the truck and dump. If there is something on the ground they will not get out of the truck to pick it up. But will send a note for us to do it. Not even knowing who left it. We have people who go around throwing their trash in our dumpsters all the time and just leave crap on the ground by the dumpster. Then we have to pick it up and clean up after them or get into trouble. The dumpster is for four families. And we have to pay for it. My husband is real good about cleaning it up and I don't think it is fair to him that the others don't. But if he finds a box or something with their names on it he will turn them in.
twice a week they pick up our garbage

you got a love Little Johnny !!!

Our small town has the trucks with the hydraulic arm. The driver is very good at grabbing the garbage cans with the arm and dumping the garbage into the truck. He is very efficient. The only negative thing about his job is the early hours he puts in so the town can have their garbage hauled away.
Our recycling gets picked up the same way.

Here they have arms on the trucks that empty the cans. There's only the driver, and he never really gets out of his heated and air conditioned garbage truck.

I have heard that it pays well.

Nice, keep them going, I love stories.

Don't complain alot of people don't have a job.

When my son was around 4 or 5, he wanted to be a trash man. I think he was fascinated by the big trucks and the arm picking up the can. I was ok with that because it's legal and if we didn't have someone doing it, we wouldn't be very happy with all the garbage piling up. When my son got older, he didn't even want to get a driver's license. I drove him to DMV to get that done and later in life he became a produce manager.
