I understand that we all have our own "taste" in movies. Personally, I like movies that are based on a true story.
The Joker is a movie that was recently released and a percentage of people are saying it's "dark and disturbing".
There are also people talking about mental health issues.
This movie is not my "cup of tea" so I wouldn't be willing to watch it.
How about you?
Will you be seeing it?
If you do - please let us know what you think.
-
No I won't be seeing that movie. Dark and disturbing isn't for me either. I like nice dramas and documentaries with an occasional thriller thrown in for good measure.
-
I've only seen previews of it. But from those I've decided that it is not something I would want to see.
-
I have been waiting all year for this movie to come out. It took the Venice awards by storm and, from what reviews are indicating, should be adding many more awards to it's resume. Joaquin Phoenix looks to be brilliant in this role and has dedicated more than his talent as it is said that he lost fifty pounds for the role. So nice to see a movie created about a character that normally takes second billing. Critics state that Phoenix captures the character associated mental illness perfectly and creates empathy/Sympathy for an individual that wants to entertain/please society but becomes hardened via systematic desensitization at the hand of a cruel society and the administration that runs it. Some of the dislike for this movie comes from the same critics that did not appreciate V (is for Vendetta) possibly because it leads the mindless masses to question an injust authority.

I probably won't be watching it since I'm not a big fan of dark and disturbing, at least not to an extreme level. It's a shame, though, because I really do like Joaquin Phoenix. I think he's one of the better actors out there, and I'm sure he did a good job playing the Joker. Just don't want my spirit to be dampened with a movie that's so dark. :peace:

I am not sure exactly which movie this is, but I do not think I will see it. It doesn't sound like my type of movie. I don't know what the movie has to do with that type of health, but I heard some movies have some sort of something to do with that. But, movies are weird these days. There is no telling what the movie might be capable of screening you for.
-
I plan on seeing this movie; however, I am going to wait until it comes out on Netflix, Hulu, or DVD/Blu-Ray. I am extremely biased by the late Heath Ledger's portrayal of the character, but I am willing to give Joaquin Phoenix a chance. Personally, I love movies that attempt to recreate / explain the backstory of a character (as "Joker" does). So I am looking forward to seeing it.
-
I wasn't interested at first, but the "controversy" makes me think it might be right up my alley. I will check it out at some point.
-
I've seen the previews on this movie, and I don't I would like to see it, it's more disturbing than the other Joker, the one with Batman is more likely to watch, but this new version of The Joker is disturbing, I wouldn't want my young child watch it, but she is a grown woman now, so it doesn't matter.
-
I can't wait to see this movie Friday! I didn't read the other comments on this to avoid spoilers!
-
I am not planning on seeing it, as I do not have an interest in those types of movies.

It's rated R so it's not made for young child to be watching. The Joker has been a pretty disturbing character in the Batman films as well if you really think about it.

I saw the Joker last night. It was pretty good. Great acting and it was so sad how everything turned out though. For anyone with a weak mind would actually act like the Joker in real life, which has happened so that's why police presence was necessary at the movie theatres.
-
I do not plan on going to see it; I will wait until either Netflix has it, or Redbox. I heard the same things though....
-
i've heard it wasn't any good..but i still want to see it when it comes to dvd..never go to the movies...i wait...
-
I don't really go out of my way to see disturbing things and I don't care at all about Batman etc. so this is one I don't plan on seeing.
Without knowing anything about the actual movie, what did disturb me about it is how much all the news outlets were practically hoping for a theater shooting to happen. I must have seen half a dozen "boy wouldn't it be terrible if someone shot up this movie? we'll give you the INSIDE SCOOP if it does!!" type reports. I wish they'd quit setting the stage like that.
-
Not planning on seeing it. I will wait until it comes on TV or rent it at Redbox. Not worth the money to see at the show
-
From what I've heard, the only real take away from the movie that, a lot people share, his performance is Oscar worthy.
-
I'm not really interested in seeing it.
-
i have no interest to see this movie.
-
I may watch it.
-
I have no interest in watching the movie. He looks too close to a clown and I do not like clowns. I had also read an article that they are suspecting some violence at the showing of this movie.
-
I'll see it in the movie theater if I can make the time for it. I'm curious on this take of the character.
-
Sounds intriguing. I'll probably watch it when I can do so at home.
-
I have no interest in seeing the movie, I'm a retro comic book fan, Batman and Robin have always been favorites of mine and I feel comics are supposed to be fun and entertaining, not scary and disturbing. To me, Caesar Romero is the real and BEST version of the Joker, hands down.

???

It means that there are so many interpretations of the character. He is an enigma. He doesn't have a definitive origin no matter how many times people have tried to give him one over the years. Even the Joker remembers things differently depending on the day. The only constant is that he was a lowlife criminal called the Red Hood who fell into a vast of chemicals trying to escape Batman and was turned into the Joker. I'm assuming there is no Batman, no Red Hood, or no chemicals in this movie; hence, I'm curious to see this take on the character.
-
That is not typically my style of movie so I will probably just wait until it is shown on TV instead of spending money to go see it in the theater. Although I have heard that it is a very good movie.
-
I'll wait until it hits my local library in a few months....I try not to give any money to Hollyweird..... :turkey:

Thanks for your review, Mizzkizz7. I had been rethinking seeing this movie since I really enjoy character studies, even if they are less than ideal. :o
So now I might go and see it even though it's rated R which is one of my no-nos.
-
I love Batman and all his villans but this movie was aweful, there was nothing entertaining about it
-
If I see it, it will be on Netfilx or Hulu later on. I'm not wasting money on it.
-
i am a giant batman fan, so this movie is so bad i had to leave, I'm sorry but this feel sorry for me crap has got to stop in super hero movies
-
Okay, so the movie was really good. But very dark.
-
I've actually heard mostly positive things about the film and the actors' performances. I'm considering seeing it.
-
I saw it. I thought it was good. I have a question for batman fans, though, and people who saw the movie. This could be a spoiler alert thing. Is Joker batman's half brother or not? I wasn't sure and I wasn't sure if I missed something or not. His mom claimed that he was but bruce wayne's dad (forgot his name already) said she was crazy and Joker was adopted.
-
I haven't seen it. Not really all that interested. I don't like 'disturbing' subject matter to begin with and Joker is a character that shouldn't ever have an origin, IMO.
-
I can't wait! Dark & disturbing are just my cup of mud!

In comic book lore, no, they are not related. Keep in mind that this movie isn't the definitive origin of the Joker nor is it associated with the "mainstream" version of the DC movie universe. This is supposed to be a on-shot, alternate take on the character. Then again, if it proves to be popular enough, things can change so who knows.
-
I thought it was crap, it’s basically joker in a cry closet . Liberal garbage.
-
I'm super not interested in seeing this.
