Title: Toxic Work Enviroments
Post by: Mizzkizz7 on November 14, 2019, 07:03:34 pm
Everybody has to work with other people but what is a headache are negative people who like to nitpick and bully other co-workers. I strongly feel that ANY issues that pertains to gossiping, drama need to be dealt with accordingly. Meeting with the supervisor, One warning, If it continues, then termination. I say this because people who have been fired or bullied have come back to work to kill innocent people just like what happened in VA. Beach, VA. So, my point is there needs to be consequences. Be nice to your coworkers, everyone is there for the same reason.  :peace: :peace: :peace: :peace: :peace:

I get along with my co-workers very well.  There is one who takes out her bad mood on everyone, though.  I will usually put her back in her place real quick if she starts with me.

Unfortunately, I have had to work in a toxic work environment. In fact, I am working in one right now. No one in our section likes the section manager as a result of his brash and unprofessional behavior. Thankfully, I will be moving to another section in a couple of weeks.

I changed my job about 18 months ago because of a Toxic Environment.  I worked for a Government Contract for 20 years, 10 of those where with a Company that was Toxic, they hired us as Subcontractors and treated us as 4th class citizens. The environment was so bad that everyone was stressed and in bad mood.

Then I had a co-worker that left the company and came back 3 years later and took it upon himself to Supervise MY WORK, up to the point that he will go back to every response email that I sent and correct me in front of everyone if something was wrong and also report it, out of his own, everything to the manager. He went back and checked entries, print it out the errors, accumulated 50 or so and sent an email to everyone on the department with my errors, errors that the other people also had and he did not check theirs, it was only me.

As soon as I found a new job a Quit, it so happened that I quit at the same time as the Supervisor going on vacation for a month and someone else for 2 weeks, so it was going to be only the Manager and the Toxic co-worker.  Manager got mad and told me that I had to stay until everyone came back (YEAH, RIGHT), he was staying with his favorite worker so I packed and left and never looked back.

It was the best decision of my life, I am too old to be stressed out and having to look over my shoulder to everything a did and make sure that I did not make mistakes since I could not be Human and to be treated like we were not good enough to be there.

The past jobs I've had, there is always the one and its usually a supervisor of sorts that most people hate and/or wants to fight with it coming close from some of the stories that I've heard.

You say ppl who have been fired come back and kill people and in the same sentence say people need to be fired.  smh  I do agree with what you are saying but usually nothing is done.  I have worked in places like that and it seems you have bullies every where you go.

I have definitely had my share of toxic people in the workplace! I just don't understand that kind of attitude, though. Why not make the workplace as tolerable as possible? I was able to start working from home in my early 30s, and I was so glad to not have to work with people who made me miserable!  :peace:

I work in a family shelter and I work overnight.  So everyone is asleep when I am there.  I don't really see all my co-workers much   except at our weekly staff meeting.

I'm very fortunate to be able to work from home as well. I dealt briefly with a person like that at another job and it sucked all the enthusiasm right out of me.

I think this extends outside of the workplace in just your every day life. There is generally no reason to treat people badly.

It has been quite a while since I have been gainfully employed out of the house.  I volunteer a lot so if I don't like my volunteer environment, I can take some time off.  however, when I used to work, I tried to avoid the negative people.

toxic work environments definitely should not be tolerated. toxic people need to be put in their place and be addressed. especially the root cause of it all instead or only punishing them.

There is a lot of people who I had to work with years ago who I really did not like. I am lucking as of now I do not have to worry about this. It is bad enough going to work but when you have to work with people you don't like, it just makes everything worse.

That is part of life. You are not going to like everyone you are in contact with no matter where you are. People have different personalities. Do and say things differently.  Have different opinions.  Just how it is.

I agree with Mizzkizz7, about being nice to people whom you work with or for, but sometime even that is not enough, as people will snap over other things in thier lives, and sometimes it is all mental....

Mostly I can say my work environment is healthy.  One gal does make challenging comments and can take others down her path...Luckily I don't work with the same staff on a daily basis.

Years ago I worked with a physco woman that every morning we cut up and joked around.  I came in one morning just like always and was joking with her.  And she goes ape crap crazy on me.  She was upset about some home issue.  Nothing was ever the same between us and honestly I never liked her after that and done all I could to avoid her.  I don't buy the "mental" thing.  That is a cop out that people just to justify behavior.  Although some people do have mental problems.  And if that is the case lock them up so the rest of us don't have to deal with them.

I had to work with people that bullied and talked about another coworker at my old job. It really bothered my friend and I and we refused to ostracize that coworker because everyone else did. He was actually really sweet (in my opinion) and ended up becoming a great friend of mine.

Yeah that can be bad as someone who gets down on themselves.  If someone is also negative it breeds negativity.
