I got tired of having a hard time peeling eggs. I keep seeing peeled eggs at the store and I'm thinkin' "why should we pay extra for an already peeled egg when we can do it ourselves?"
So I've been trying to make it easier by first bringing the eggs to a boil, taking them from the heat and letting them sit in the hot water for 15 minutes; then immediately putting them in ice-cold water.
In just a few minutes they'll have cooled sufficiently so that you can peel them pretty easily. They just put them in an small airtight container to use later. It's been working well for me so I hope others can try it successfully. :highfive:

That's how I do it...you just now figured that out? ;)

That is pretty much how I do it too only I also put a little salt in the boiling water. I think I read somewhere that it makes it easier to peel.

That’s exactly what I do. I also use the added salt, I read it helps and I think it does.

That's pretty much how I do it, except I run the egg under cold water while I peel it.
It is said that older eggs peel easier than fresher eggs, I have found that to be true.

It is so frustrating sometimes when peeling eggs. Thanks for the tip

Ive figured some tricks all these years. The fresher your eggs are the harder time you will have peeling them, when you peel fresh eggs, often chunks of the white also are removed
I use eggs that are at least a week to week and a half old
I boil them, then I crack the shell, pull a bit of the membrane off, and put in bowl of ice water, the water will seep between the egg and shell, once eggs are cold, peel, all of these steps make for a easier time peeling

We have containers, break the egg in the container, put in boiling water, containers are teflon coated and the egg slides out when cooled, no peeling eggs.
-
If the egg is cool it will peel with no problem. Sometimes we cannot wait and the egg is not cool enough.

I always add Salt to my boiling water. Then I leave them in the pot and run cold water over them. I crack each egg and run more cold water and let my eggs cool all the way. The shell comes right off. Thanks for the tip about the Older eggs peel better. I did not know that.

My daughter told me about the ice bath when she was getting her master degree in dietitian. Thought she was crazy but it really works well

Not my type of work!
I do not like kitchens and messy work that
comes with been there.

I add salt and a little oil to water when boiling, after cooking do the ice bath and eggs peel easily every time. This generation wants convenience that's one reason for the peeled eggs, frozen fries, cakes etc. People don't want to use time making food from scratch. You can get almost anything already made and requiring a little effort on your part to fix or just put it in the microwave.

We hard boil eggs often in our home. Your suggestion is just the way we do it. This is very easy to do and hard boiled eggs are so versatile. We use them a lot in salads.
At any rate, I'm glad that you found a way to cut costs in your grocery bill. Happy peeling! :silly:

Thank you for the tip. I have the same problem with them being hard to peel sometimes. I will give your method a try.

i use the 5-5-5 method in my pressure cooker..cook 5min,5 min pressure release and ice bath 5 min..so easy

I have an egg cooker I got at Aldi. I love it. It takes half the time to cook boiled eggs than boiling. They come out perfect every time. No problem with peeling. You can made poached eggs (which I never eat) and omelettes with it too.

Running the egg under cold water is a good trick. I loved boiled eggs

Not only are the peeled eggs more expensive but I tried them twice and they have an off flavor - nothing bad and it is not detectable if you put other ingredients in but they definitely taste different from ones made at home. I just fight with mine. I miss my hubby (deceased) when we made deviled eggs he always peeled because I destroyed them lol had no patience.
