Title: Do you keep houseplants?
Post by: pectacon on January 16, 2020, 08:57:14 am
I can barely walk past a houseplant rack at the hardware store without buying one. If I had some brighter windows in my house I would have a thousand of them.

I did have houseplants that my grandmother rooted for me, but I had to move and put my things in a storage unit and I had to give them away.  I'm on a waiting list for an apartment and as soon as I move in I will get more houseplants because I love them.

I am not very  good at keeping houseplants alive.  I have one that the kids gave me after a minor surgery that is still going.  I've had it since September 2019.

Unfortunately, I am terrible with houseplants. Once upon a time, I had quite a few houseplants uin my home from my mom's funeral. I don't know if I was over-watering them or under-watering them, but one by one, they all died. That was when I knew for sure that I didn't have a green thumb, LOL!  :peace:

Yes.  It's like a forest in here.  Ok maybe not that bad but yes I love house plants.  I don't have luck with ones that bloom really pretty flowers like Christmas cactus.  I am working on it though

No I don't have any plants.  My apartment does not have very much free space and there aren't many windows for light either.

I love houseplants and as I’m writing this I counted and  I have 13 ( unlucky number, guess I’ll have to get more 😁).

I have two Christmas cacti, one African Violet, a Norwegian Pine, and a container of small cacti and succulents.  I used to have a large collection of African Violets, but I think I over watered them and they kicked the bucket.

My wife currently has about 25 ( including Poinsettias from Christmas), which is a fraction of what she had before we moved and had to downsize into 1400 Sq, Ft.

We've tried so many times.  We kill plants by just looking at them.

I rarely get houseplants anymore, as they all seem to not live that long in my house. I do have some herbs plants that I use, although right now I just have a mint plant.

I don’t have any inside of my apartment because they cost too much and don’t live very long. I don’t have good sunlight where I live and so they die very quickly, even if they’re kept outside. I’d like to have one that is an herb I can use, but I haven’t had much success with this as of late. I’d like to have an indoor garden, but I can’t imagine how many bugs that would attract into my apartment. With better sunlight I could at least keep some plants outside on my patio, but that just isn’t the case for me right now.

I only have an aloe plant in my apartment currently because I do not have a lot of space. I also have a few succulents at my desk at work. I have read that plants increase productivity and happiness.

You sound like my mom.  She loved plants and was always working outside in the yard.  I kill them.  She forced a jade plant and a Christmas cactus on me several years ago, when we had visited and, surprisingly, they have survived.  I have no idea why or how but, they are still here and she is not.

I would love to have house plants.  I like to look at live plants and I know they support air quality.  However, I can kill almost anything.  The last live house plant I had was about 10 years ago.  I managed to keep it alive the longest of any plant I ever had.  Most I killed off in the first 6 months but this one lasted 3 years.  To this day, I am not sure what happened.  At any rate, I have given up.  It actually became stressful trying to keep them alive. Good luck to all of you with a green thumb.  I am envious!!!

No, but my grandmother has a ton of them throughout her household. I swear, I feel as though I am in a forest every time I visit her, LOL.

I am really not a "plant" person, honestly.

If I had room, I would have them all over the place.  But unfortunately we live in a double wide and there just isn't room for them.  They make the air so much healthier too. :clover:

I have a ton of houseplants. I've had some dieffenbachias and spider plants for almost 50 years and they are still going strong. Every year I have to repot them and start new pots with shoots from them.

Not anymore.  I have enough to keep up with but I have plants in the garden during the summer and fall that I tend to.
