Title: Tornado who knew?
Post by: debidoo on January 18, 2020, 11:56:50 am
There was a mild tornado touch down in my town January 5th and I didn't even know.  I just happened to google Florida tornado's because of the recent horrible weather in so many states.  Dang I need to start getting a newspaper I guess.

Tornadoes are not as massive and dangerous as some people want to think.  A tornado can touch down and point A and point B 5-6 miles away won't be effected.  There was one touched down about a mile from me and yeah I knew it.  My cousin who lives about 7 miles away had some wind, no power, and it was storming but she did not know the tornado had touched down other than people posting on Facebook.

My first indication was I had a scanner on (battery back up) and I heard a cop screaming on the radio for everybody to take cover.  smh  The funnel cloud was probably 1/2 mile from my house.  It went the other way.

We had a tornado touch down a few miles from my house and there was no major damage.  However we had a Micro Burst a few years ago that did major damage.

of all the natural disasters that can happen tome tornadoes are the scariest. very often you can have very little warning and it can do massive destruction  in a matter of seconds :rainbow: :peace:

There was a daycare/preschool in my general area.  If they had tornado watches they just said well we will monitor the weather.  And when a warning is issued we will load the kids on to 4 buses and take then 8 miles down the road to a school.  I was like this is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of.  When a WARNING has been issued you are to hunker down where you are.  Seek shelter immediately.  Not start a process that will take 20 minutes or more.

The one that hit in my town most recently there was not a lot of warning.  I mentioned it before.  I had a battery powered scanner (no power) and it had been raining and stormy.  I hear a cop screaming he sees a funnel cloud.  I immediately called mom and said get downstairs.  By the time we all got down stairs it was basically over.  They hit fast.  I am doing some early spring cleaning and rearranging.  Part of my goal is to go ahead and be ready so if and when storms hit I don't have to worry about where a candle is.  Where are matches.
