Do you think that one gets anything for free? My bf says that you get nothing for free you have to earn it....I say that if you do surveys and earn points and turn those points in and get a reward, that you are getting it for free....what do you think?

No, nothing is free when you consider that, at the very least, that something is costing you one thing and that is time. If you spend 10 minutes doing a survey and get points and those points get exchanged for a reward, those 10 minutes of time were the cost.

I understand that part, but no money came out of my pocket so I considered it free hmmm lol

I agree with you, I am retired with nowhere to go and all day to get there, so I do this stuff for my entertainment. The money they send me is absolutely free, since I would be on here having fun anyway.

Alas nothing is free-everything comes with a cost. Even swapping points for a reward (something of value) you still expended energy an time in earning those points. My father used to say, quite frequently, that time is our most precious commodity. Using coupon resulted in spending time opening the newspaper/mail, reviewing the offerings and clipping the coupons. Something as simple as a walk costs money: you can not, legally, do it naked so the clothes on your back come at a cost as does the time spent walking (could be used to make more money). I had heard, somewhere, that it would cost Bill Gates (Microsoft software founder) thousands of dollars to stop and pick up a one hundred dollar bill due to what he makes per second.

I guess I’m not the brightest bulb on the tree. But, I’m just saying that if I had $50.00 in the bank and I had points that I could get something that cost $50.00 , then I would still have that $50.00 Stll in the bank therefore no money came out of my pocket...am I that stupid that I don’t understand what some are saying here?

"Nothing is free" doesn't always refer to money. You didn't spend money when you were taking that survey, but you did spend your time. That survey cost you 10 minutes or more of time that you'll never get back. Or say a local store is giving away free apples. Ok, you get in the car, drive 10 minutes to the store, get some free apples, drive 10 minutes back home. Yeah, you got free apples, but you used some gas driving to the store which costs money. Plus you spent 20+ minutes driving to and from the store, 20 minutes you could have spent doing something else. It doesn't matter if you love taking surveys or driving to the store, it still cost you something to get something for free.

I just turned in x amount of points on pinecone research and got a cookie press, to me that was free. I didn’t have to go anywhere, use gas, it came right to my house. My bf is here laughing because you all are agreeing with him, and he is still saying you never get anything for free...well I am going to make cookies with my cookie press that I got FREE in my eyes ha ha...I guess I really am that stupid because I’m not really getting it, I’m bad ....thanks everyone and
Happy New Year !!

Hmnnn now that is an interesting question. I wouldn't say exactly free upon thought because it is like working in a sense. I see your point though.

No It is not free. You have invested time in to it. Free would mean they just send you the gift card and you do nothing.

I think that is going a little too far.

But how long did it take you to earn the $50? Or the points to get the $50. No you are not stupid. Just like some people that do these sites call it a job. You can look at it how ever you want to. If I work on my job for 40 hours and get paid $400 that money is not free. I worked for it. If you draw welfare and do not work and get $400 then yes that money is free to you. But it is not free because somebody else worked for it. Which gets in further in to the argument that nothing is free. But not relevant here.
Back to the orig point if you work on the survey site for 40 hours and get $25 then you done something to get the money. If it was just free money it would just be sent to you for doing nothing.

It's not for free...it's costing you your time.
