Title: Home remedies
Post by: tjshorty on February 06, 2020, 09:17:38 pm
I have had a bad cough for about a week.  So bad my chest hurt.
I had been reading about the benefits of ginger root.  Well turns out made into a tea it relieves cold and flue like symptoms.  Among many other benefits that I wont get into.  I will leave it up to you to look those up for yourself.
So I only had powdered ginger and some honey.  I mixed it up in some hot water made a tea.  I took a drink.  I am going to say that for me this remedy worked.  My cough stopped immediately my chest doesn't hurt.  Its been about an hour since I coughed.  The taste isn't bad, but, does take some to get used to.

Do you have a go to remedy for any ailments such as a cold?

Try putting a little apple cider vinegar in your drinks.  Hope this helps!

If you absolutely need over the counter Delysm is AMAZING! Also try mucus relief and allergy medicines from the discount store.

Warm beverages, especially tea, have always been a good help for me.  Actually I love tea even if I'm not sick, which is not too often.

My husband and I have a big variety of different tea blends.  Ginger based tea is a good source for colds and coughs.  I also use green tea, hibiscus and Earl Gray just to name a few.  Depending on the blend I'm using, sometimes I add about a half teaspoon of honey which helps to sooth my throat and I also may add about a teaspoon of lemon ( I prefer fresh squeezed ).

I love ginger tea and when I'm feeling like I might be getting sick I make a pot of it.  I stock up on fresh ginger root when it's on sale then cut it up and freeze it.

I can't wait till spring when my mint plants come up.  this year I will make sure to harvest enough of my flowers and mint to make tea.  Thanks for that list of teas

This is good to know.  Right now I have a cough and my chest hurts from coughing so much.  I also have some head congestion.  The whole family has had this for a couple of weeks.

I have heard that a couple times that ginger can help with colds. I never tried it but if you think it might help than why not.

For a sore throat, warm lemon tea, honey, a little sugar for flavor, and a lemon. ( A cough drop can be added in the tea as well).
