Title: Evictions
Post by: JaniceSW on June 01, 2020, 05:57:38 am
As state rent freezes expire, evictions are on the horizon.  Some people will be owing April, May, and June rents.  Landlords say they can no longer afford to collect nothing in many cases. This is truly sad but I am not sure what the answer is.  Do you know someone who is going to be affected by the end of the rent freezes?

My neighbors are welfare bums.  They moved in to a rental place a few months ago then this happened.  Their income did not change.  But they decided hey we can get away with not paying rent.  At the same time have spent probably $1000 or more on new toys that are scattered all over the yard.  ::)

I do not know anyone who truly lost all their income and really could not pay rent.  Most people in real situations like that I think if you are trying and paying some the landlords will work with you.  But you can't expect them to just let you live there for free.  They have bills to pay too.

Overall, I agree with you!  Nonetheless, I think your neighbors are in the minority as far as how many people behave.  Even though not all income may be lost, rents can be very high, especially in some areas of the country.  Yesterday I heard that many landlords are ready to evict and try to get people who can pay.  On the one hand, I can't blame them; on the other, there may be more homeless in a country with already too many. Homelessness affects a person/family in so many ways.  This whole situation is frustrating and heartbreaking in many ways.

If the person can pay their rent/mortgage they need to pay it.  More than you think are taking advantage.  People are making more drawing unemployment than working. I can see things both ways.  I would think if you work hard and are honestly trying you won't end up on the street.  Either they will try to work with you or family will take you in.  I always wonder when people have family why they are living on the street.  There has to be a reason.  But you can't expect landlords to let people just live in their properties while paying NOTHING. Too many take advantage of a situation and then it hurts people who are really trying.  Another thing to point out - there are jobs every where.  People are lazy.  People don't want to work.  I have seen interviews online all across the country, and talked to people around my area, and management say they can't get anybody to work.  They either make more drawing unemployment than they can pay or they just don't want to work.  I understand that retail type jobs are not desirable but which is better - working at Walmart or living in your car with 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 4 kids? Then expecting everyone to feel sorry for you.

I am not sure how it will work on missed months of rent.  I mean you still owe the money.  Kind of like mortgages.  You may have skipped a month or two but you still owe the money.  You still have to pay it.  The landlord has bills to pay as well.  And the rent is at least a portion of his income.  And lots of times the property he rents is not owned free and clear so he is still having to make a mortgage payment.

This is a hard decision.  If you lost your job I can see and sympathize if you can't come up with possibly 2 to 3 months rent.  In the other hand, country girl is correct there are a percentage of people who don't have any desire to work or pay bills and that affects the entire population.  Also the landlords need that rent money, they also have bills that are due and probably a mortgage payment on that property.  They cant, and should not be expected to, carry your rent payments you need to pay your landlord.

I live in a house with three nice apartments.  I know from being a landlord in the past that the bank will not wait for their money,  the county or town will not wait for their taxes or water and sewer bills.  Even if you skip a month or 2 of rent you still owe the money and it is  a lot harder to catch up.

I do not know anyone personally who is affected by these evictions, but given the high unemployment people have suffered I am sure there are many; I hope that those that are able will pay their rent and not try and take advantage of the system because of the pandemic.

I don't know anyone in this situation but I hope and pray it works out for people that have this problem.  I hope people do the right thing because we can't live for free and bills have to be paid.

No thank goodness I don't know anyone affected.  In the past my family and I would have been in a world of hurt but thank God we may not have a lot left over but so far we are able to pay our bills.  I can only imagine how fearful some people are in wondering what they are going to do.

Even though my family is not getting quite as much income as before covid, we have still been able to pay our rent, etc. It is a little tough, but we are doing it. I know someone who has filed for unemployment and she is still waiting to collect, as the state has told her they do not have the funds. We do need to get back to normal or we need more stimulus, because eventually everyone will not have all the funds to pay everything and that is a problem. Praying for prosperity for all hurting americans at this time. God is our source if you believe in him. Praise God!

There are a lot of people who can't afford to pay rents because they lost their jobs.  But then I see signs up stating there are job openings.  I am sure no one wants to be evicted, but as many has noted, the landlord has bills to pay also.  Things are hard to some, but expecting to stay in apartments rent free is just not done.

Why do you think there will be a "next round" of stimulus?  The ones who are not paying rent are not going to use the stimulus checks for things like rent anyway.  They will blow it on having a good time.  Which is why landlords are working on evicting those who are not paying rent. I do not blame them at all.

"Blow it on having a good time?"  Lord, you are judgmental and just wrong sometimes.  I know few people who would choose not to pay something on their rent or mortgage and be on the street.  Because you and I have both known a few people like you are describing, the majority wants to work and pay their obligations!

Yeah don't bring God in to this.  No I am not judgmental and NO I am not wrong.  It has been all over the media that you praise so much how sales for TVs, electronics, and other good times crap has sky rocketed since those first checks were sent out.  Why would people pay the rent when they can buy a swimming pool.  They know they cannot be kicked out of their residence right now.  Not sure if they understand that eventually they are going to be expected to pay the months they skipped.

NO the "majority" do not want to WORK.  Management every where are saying they can't get people to work.  They would rather draw unemployment because it pays more.  The government has even said that.  Nobody wants to go back to work because they make more with that extra $600 a week than they did working.  So now they are talking about paying them $1200 to go back to work. If they wanted to be fair they should have given everyone an extra $600 a week including the people who are working and working part time jobs.

YOU are part of the problem.  YOU want to know why everything turns in to a fight? Because people like you can't let someone else have an opinion.  If you do not agree with me then that is fine.  But when you attack me for my opinion because YOUR opinion is not the same then don't expect to not receive a defensive reply.

I think most people would rather keep up with their bills.  I'm sure there are some irresponsible people who feel that the government should take care of them.  Many people who got the stimulus and did not need it because their income did not change.

There are a lot of people who their income did not change but they still could use the money.  If you look at it that way then the people drawing unemployment did not need it because most of them their income went up.  And the government has admitted that.  Basically also have said that doing that was a mistake because now people won't go back to work.

You are right in that it is not every one.  But the numbers are pretty high. A lot of people are taking advantage of being able to get away with not paying their bills right now.

Hi!

Thankfully I don't know anyone nonetheless I realize many of people may be in that exact situation. It's a bad situation all around I think. Hopefully things get back to normal soon and we are able to get back to work.
