Title: Any DIYers out here?
Post by: cateyes1 on June 12, 2020, 02:55:44 am
We just had our cement porch busted up. In the middle of it all was 1 brick. We are replacing the stoop with a deck, any ideas on what to do with that 1 brick? I was thinking of painting it and putting the date of when the deck was built. This i'm sure is the oddest question but just wondering if anyone  has any idea on what to do with this 1 brick lol....My home was my parents and built in 1919 so that stoop has been there for 100 years now...thanks for any ideas :)

You use it as a doorstop, as calendria suggested. You could also put it away so no one gets rid of it by accident, but in that case you could paint the date on it, like you mentioned.

Doorstop with the date and where it was found, with maybe the date of when the post had originally been put in.

Unfortunately, the only DIY activity that I do is detailing my vehicle. :(

I would keep it as natural as possible and not paint it except for the date and maybe some flowers or stars just to jazz it up a bit.

My house was built in 1907, we still have most of the old wood. When the chimney comes down I will keep the old brick and rock. Part of the chimney is from around 1850.  I like the door stop idea.

Your brick must have survived for some reason!  It definitely needs to be engraved with some relevant date or info, in tribute to its survival capacity.

Not to be a drag, but I would throw it away. It's a brick.

Can't see the relevance or nostalgia for keeping it. :dontknow:

If you think the brick is from 1919 when the house was built, I'd keep it.  My Mom made brick into ladybugs and mine sits by my back door.
