you can buy a toilet lock. they are pretty easy in attach. buy it online or look @ lowes, home depot, babiesrus. Had the same problem with both kids. Make sure you keep t.p. out of reach too!
-
:) Better than a toilet lock is a bathroom door lock. The problem is not the toilet. The problem is the bathroom door. Lock the bathroom door. Open the door only when you are there to surpervise your kids.
-
I agree with ancmetro. It would be good to get a lock for the bathroom door. Since your daughter is active and inquisitive she will get into many things. However, toilets can be deadly. If she were to get the seat up and be splashing around in the toilet bowl water and lose her balance so that she loses her footing and falls head first into toilet, she could drown.

i lock all my bathroom doors after my 2 yr old flood the whole bathroom..

I go with lock the door.

try giving him a slap on the hand an yell to him not to go in there....thats what ma parents did to me.... :icon_rr:

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions!

I had the same problem with my son and we had to invest in a toilet lock. Worked wonders. I was so good that the adults were locked out of the toilet also. ;D

LOL!

Thats what Im afraid of lol

locking the toilet is a good start but once she figures that out maybe a child gate from leaving your site that way you know where she is. :binkybaby:

Put down the toilet seat and keep the bathroom door closed!
-
Add a chain lock (like a safety lock) at a high level of your door so she can't reach and open the door. No adults should get locked. Open/Close on the outside.
Make sure the door opens only two or three inches with the chain luck. Not too much so she doesn't get her head stuck.

You can always lock the bathroom door. Can't get in to play with it.
-
put one of those *bleep* protectors on the bathroom door *bleep* so she cannot open it. i have them on my doors at home so my little one cant get out. now she is 4 and is learning how to get them open anyway but they worked when she was little.
-
You can also purchase a toilet lock. They sell them at Wal-Mart with all the infant stuff. Its basically a small plastic belt like thing. I used this when both my kids went through the O WE DISCOVERED THE TOILET stage.
-
toilet lock or something on the outside of the door to keep it from opening
-
My old dog used to drink from the toilet. >_> Why not just lock the door or atleast close it, if shes not even 2 years old, I don't think she can even reach,

There! Problem solved!
((of course I'm joking, but my parents probably would have done this if the knew it existed.))

keep the door close at all times thats what i do with my 18m old son...he tries the same thing..

Buy a tiolet lock they are cheap but have saved me on many occasions

Be consistent with your approach with her. Do not get angry and hitting a child is unproductive. Talk to her in a mature way as a human being. Baby talk may be okay at times, but consistently, I think it is too much and can lead to poor speech by the child as they emulate what they hear. Have you put a look on the door to keep her out? If so, have a key readily available in a convenient place in case she locks herself in.
-
I agree with the above poster. Be consistent, do not yell, talk to her normally. I have a two year old and I know what you're going through. Place the protective knobs that only adults can use on the bathroom door (Even me, as an adult, have trouble with it LOL).
-
hmm well
i know over at my dads
just for the dogs neways we close the lid
and close the door to the bathrooms
that way they dnt get in
i dunno how big ur 16 month is
and if she cant pick up the lid of a toilet seat
so thats one way and to close the door
-
I have the same problem with my 14 months old son. Normally this only happens when I forget the bathroom door open. He would then enter the bathroom, lift up the toilet lid and play in the water. He cannot open the door for himself yet but I intend to use the clear grip safety doorknob cover (child proofing). This is excellent for keeping toddlers out from 'off limits' room.
-
I am personally a fan of the child safety doorknobs that you have to squeeze to grib the handle. Locks the kids out without worrying about locking yourself out. (Or anyone in)
-
dont leave the bathroom doors open so the kiddo couldn't sneak in.

i think this was funny when i first read it. i suggest you get a toliet lock, it works.

the child may have already found their calling - Sanitation - look on the bright side the child is not out in the yard eating worms - to one day become an environmentalist.
