Seems like more than half the time the fruit I buy at the grocery store is lousy. My mother will return stuff like fruit or chicken if it's already spoiling the day after she bought it. Now I pinch a penny (notice what site I'm on lol) but I rarely bother returning something under $10 if it requires a physical trip somewhere I wasn't headed anyway. I know that adds up but I really hate extra errands.

I've never tried to return any kind of food item.

I do return things esp. meat. If that meat smells bad when I get it home yes it goes back. I figure I pay good money for something and it's not worth eating yes they deserve to get it back. It also helps the stores be more aware if they have a problem with their suppliers.

I return anything that is not up to my expectation up to a week after purchasing it. I have no problem taking it back at any time because, it seems, there is always something I need from the store. I have taken shirts back within three months of purchasing if they lose a button or wear out at any point. I took a blender back after 11 months of use because it stopped working at my level of expectation. I had a scooter battery that wore out in eighty nine days (ninety day warranty), called Advanced Autoparts, and they have a new battery waiting for me (batteries should last much longer). I do not abuse anything that I buy so if it doesn't last as long as it should, I will return it. I have had sunglasses last twenty years and tried to return them.

I haven't returned any fruit or meats. Now because of the virus they're not accepting foods.
-
Me too but I never return it.

I've never returned fruit or meat to the grocery store, mostly because I don't want to handle the items once I find out they are rotten or spoiled. I stopped buying fresh meat at the Walmart near us. It was either too stringy or almost rotten underneath or too tough, too fatty, etc. Even if there's nothing visibly wrong with Walmart's meat, I find that it's just not as high of a quality as my taste buds want. So we get all of our fresh meat at Costco. We've never had a complaint about their meat before. i can live with Walmart's ugly fruits and veggies. They're still good if you look past their irregularities. And if I want pretty fruit and veggies, I just go to Publix for their fruit. :peace:

No, I only saw that on an episode of the Golden Girls, lol.

I return an expired beef roast once. I didn't notice the expiration date. I just told them I wanted a different one. I suppose they put it back on the shelf and sold it to some other oblivious shopper.

Once I returned a watermelon that my husband bought. It cost 20.00 I was like is there gold up in there. The store took it back fine. Didn't let my husband shop again. Returned a pie it was expensive and tasted awful. I think especially now stores will take things.
-
I have never returned fruit or meat but I have returned dairy products before. Years ago, I bought moldy sour cream twice from a store and returned them both. When I purchased it for the 3rd time I opened and checked it in the store to make sure it hadn't spoiled.
-
No, I never return fruit, but if the meat smells when I open the pack I will return it.

No. Why would it spoil the day after she bought it? Unless it was already out of date when she took it home. I am surprised they take it back. But I have seen our Walmart take back some pretty insane returns. Depends on who is working customer service at the time I guess.

I think you have that backwards. Esp now stores are not even taking returns at all for the most part. They just started recently taking returns at Walmart. I would never think of returning food that I just did not like the way it tasted. Unless it was made in the bakery and tasted like they made it wrong. Guess it would depend on the price as well. I don't usually keep grocery store receipts.

I have never returned groceries or anything else for that matter

You have never returned anything? Ever? Stores like people like you. :D I took a portable tape player back to Walmart (yrs ago) because something was broken on the front and you could not play a tape. When I returned it I told them why. I got the money back and left. A few days later I purchased another one of the same brand and brought it home. Guess what....it was the one I had previously returned. SO I take it back again. I told them DO NOT put this back on the shelf! It is broke. And that it is the same one I had just returned a few days earlier. I don't think I have ever returned food of any kind. If something was wrong with it I probably would but not because it spoiled before I ate it or did not taste good. Unless I purchased it and it was spoiled when I opened it.

Beats me. It'll have a few days left according to the sticker but you'll have the oven all heated and ready then open up the plastic and it'll smell way off. It's happened enough times with chicken at this particular store location that we don't buy it there anymore. Their beef is alright though so I'm not sure what that would be about.

We got some fish at the grocery store and it smelled horrid. We just threw it away. It was a different kind than we usually buy. Idk if it was because of that or what. It was a few weeks ago. We did not have a receipt so we just tossed it. I guess some wild animal ate it. Or a neighborhood cat. lol None of them died that I know of so I guess it wasn't too rancid.

I only returned one thing in my life. I bought some fresh cod from a grocery store. It was wrapped in brown paper and when I opened the paper to cook it, I saw worms on the fish. Lucky I fished for the receipt in the garbage and took it back. I got my money back, but it took a long time before I ate fish again.

That is pretty bad. I can't remember what kind of fish we got. It was something we had never bought before. Maybe it was suppose to have an odd smell. We had 2 packs and both smelled the same way. We put in freezer when we brought home and had it a few days. It was in the reduced section so it may have been old. If we have the receipt we probably would have taken it back under normal circumstances. Right now I do not go to the store if I don't have to.

I have because if I am spending my money and then open a package up and it has gone bad within a day or smells off I am not gonna use it. I do not want to waste my money like so. I am careful though when purchasing things.

I bought some Roast Beef at the deli the other day... it looked good in the case but obviously they cut some from a different loaf of meat. It was cut very thick (even though I asked for thin), It was more grayish than pinkish, and it had a awful lot of fat on it.
I bought it at Market Basket which is about 15-20 minutes away so I didn't bother going back. It was disappointing though.

Is there any way to pre-screen this kind of s.m.u.t before it is posted in the forum? This is absolutely uncalled for garbage on a forum like this!!! Absolutely ridiculous that people should be exposed to this while reading about grocery store returns.
Crazy stupid that the censor will screen me from typing the word s-m-u-t above but will allow this brand new member to plaster x-rated photographs unchecked!!! This user is posting p.o.r.n and it needs to be removed!
(I have reported the post to the moderator, but still - something needs to be said publicly in the forum as well).

Id only bring back meats if they if they smell rank when I get home or if i missed something when first looking. As for fruit nah i buy it i keep it don't care. Besides don't always keep receipts . Most of the time ill toss them the very second i get home

I can't return fruit & meat because I usually let just rot when I buy it.

Did you not watch them slice it? Usually they will slice one slice and show you and ask if that is okay. I don't think I have ever had any deli meat sliced that was not sliced where I could see it. So I see them get out of the case and then take over to the slicer. But if it is just a hunk of meat wrapped in a deli cooler you can't really tell. If it was unsafe to eat I probably would have called and told them. Being that far not sure if I would have went back. Guess you need to start opening in the vehicle and looking at it.

No. The moderator would have to have it set up to preapprove posts before they show up in the forums. Unless they had a better filter like where it sensors words like B a - l l You know that round things a kid plays with. Type that all together and it gets starred out. They could change it so you can't post pictures. But since it has been several days and the posts are still here I doubt the moderators care.

Me no I buy it I keep it regardless. I just don't feel right returning anthing like this at all . Guess its just in my nature
-
I haven't yet
-
Yeah, no.

Not meat or fruit and actually, I never really returned anything to a physical store because honestly, I think it would be too much of a hassle for possibly nothing.
-
No. Returning meat and fruits is not sanitary. Any store who accepts it back is not following health laws.
-
I don't usually take any fruit or meat back to the store if something is wrong. I just throw it away and keep on going, but I don't buy from that store again.
-
since i live alone i don't buy an abundance of fruit or meat at once.i may have a problem with meat once or twice but i would not have bothered returning it.when purchasing meat i pay close attention to color and the sell by date. :rainbow: :peace:
