Insurers May Only Pay For Coronavirus Tests When They're 'Medically Necessary'

One-time testing wouldn't be that big of an expense, though even that would add up across hundreds of employees at roughly $100 per test.

“What has happened over time is I think they’ve realized that this can get very expensive very quickly. They’re paying for testing for everybody and in some cases weekly or monthly,” Corlette said. “So what they’ve said is, if you’re sick and you go to a doctor and the doctor says, "Yes, let’s get you tested then we’ll cover that.' But if it’s for you to go back to the workplace or if it’s for a broad public surveillance exercise then the insurers have been saying we shouldn’t have to cover that, that’s not our job,” Corlette explained.

My daughter had test at Kaiser she luckily didn't have it. Think it cost 25.00 not sure. She got results in 3 hours.

i have no idea since so far i have been safe. I thought my insurance would cover it though
-
not sure about the price..they are doing free covid tests here in my town
-
I was under the impression that the test was free or at least at certain times. I have not had a need for the test.
-
I don't know the cost of the COVID-19 test. I just had it done this week since I was near someone who tested positive. I guess I'll find out if my insurance pays for it soon.

My town too. But I also got a free flu shot (through my insurance), someone said they were up to $75.00 with no insurance. I don't know what the covid charge is.

I got tested for free...is it not like that elsewhere too? (it was negative, btw)
-
same here i got the test for free from my working place was called voluntary / Mandatory :(
basically if u refused u couldnt re turn to work for 14 dayz
but neg. though

Seems like the test is different here and there. Some free some higher . Honestly seems like price gouging in some areas compared to others.
-
They are a lot of free testing around here so don't know how much it will cost.

I thought people were being tested for Covid-19 for free. I saw a drive-up testing center in Kaiser's parking lot last week. I took my elderly father through the drive through flu shot in another drive-up testing center section they have, so he didn't have to get out of the car, just put his arm out the window. It was all covered.

I wasn't charged anything for mine but it was for a surgery and they probably added the cost in there somewhere.
