Raccoons are typically nocturnal creatures. My experience was that the babies, up till about eight or nine months, are cute and cuddly. They tend to become more wild at that age. My grandmother had a grocery store in the country and I brought home a baby raccoon-asked her if I could keep it as a pet. She said no so I snuck it into a cage in a store room that she rarely went into. At around eight months the creature figured out how to open the cage and destroyed the store room. It took me a week to get it cleaned up and several months to regain my grandmother's trust. I have seen YouTube videos where the raccoons appear to have become domesticated but ultimately, they are creatures born in the wild and need to be free.

Yikes! I hope you're not playing with it. Racoons are one of the top carriers of rabies in the U.S.  :o

That doesn't seem like a good idea to me.  It would probably run when you get too close or strike out and bite you.

They are mean - maybe when they are real younger maybe teachable for a pet!

Nope, but one ate our cats food before nodding it's head at us through the window.

Another one drank a mostly full bottle of vanilla coke with half a mento shook up in it that I accidentally forgot to throw away when it didn't explode....it left a big present behind in the yard and had put the plastic bottle in our bushes.
Apparently,it exploded in the racoons stomach instead. 🤣

Racoons in the wild are mean - if you see one during the day I would stay away from it - rabies.

Yes we have one gave it a brownie used it's hands to pick it up it was cute. Sometimes I hear at night  a running sound on my roof. Never see during the day.

I had a whole family of raccoons this summer: mom, and 6 babies come and eat the cat's food. I would open the door but they didn't run. They were just curious but I wasn't about to go out and mingle. We tried to get photos of them but through the screen door, we got good photos of the screen and through the side glass door panel, it showed horror creatures. So gave up. We would talk to them through the screen door. But, if we opened the screen door a little, they would run. I started bringing the food in at night and now they just come to wash their paws in the cats water bowl. Some mornings, the water is so dirty, but it's getting better. I think they've moved on. Meanwhile, my hubby has been feeding a fox and its little ones. But we haven't seen them in a couple weeks. The mom used to come to eat and if there was nothing there, just sit there looking at the garage because that's where the food came from that big 2-legged thing.  Now he's bummed because that was a bright spot in his life. The neighbor's security camera caught one on his camera with a broken leg. :(   But we also had 3 grandhogs that would come to eat at the same time the ferals would eat. It was strange watching a fox and cat eating together or a groundhog and cat eating together. Grandhogs have now disappeared, too.

Raccoons are very territorial and they will challenge you. The answer:  stay away from raccoons.

My advice: Keep your distance. You could probably interact if you feel led to do so but be ultra cautious!

It's not a great idea.  :monkey:

As tempting as it might be,the members here are giving you good advice.Stay away and if you ever suspect 1 might be rabid stay away more so and call animal control.

Yes there will be a time when all of mankind will be at peace with all the animals says the bible.Walking with a lion or handling a cobra. Can U even imagine?Bible supports it all.

No and don't intend to.  One hangs around our neighborhood at night eating out trash cans but we keep a good distance from it.

I feed the wildlife, but at a respectful distance.

Yes I agree with some of the other posts.  I have heard that they carry rabies and they will bite.  They might look all cute, but I think they are mean.

Why would you play with one? Way to encourage getting rabies.
