Your question should be --- Is there anyone who doesn't get calls from telemarketers?  They are so annoying.  I hang up when I hear the click of their system. :angry7:

I sometimes say out loud who da hell thought inventing the phone was a good idea.  Think I'll say that to the next  telemarketer  yeah.

what I used to do is take the call and tell them I am interested. then I tell them let me put the dog out I will be right back . Then I put the phone down and eventually I heard the beeping tone because they hung up. One time a person waited one hour before hanging up :)

I don't even answer the phone if I don't know the number but I don't get a lot of those calls anyway.

Most of the time I do not answer.  the one I have answered are want to buy my land I do not own, or about the car warrant.

I get several annoying calls daily from telemarketers. If they stopped getting remunerated, they would die off.

I read somewhere that they are not allowed to hang up first.  But the thing is the calls are also recorded a lot of times.  And if they already have your info and you told them you were interested and they have that recorded it could end up being a real headache for you to try to cancel something.  I never thought about laying the phone down and walking away.  But I also don't want them tying up my line. And something else I heard once had to do with keeping you on the phone for x amount of time.  I know for a while they were switching people's phone service that way.

That is one of the reasons I only have a smartphone for service now. no more landlines. now if I get a call from someone I don't recognize, I don't answer it

It's an awful burden to bear. But remember these people have jobs they have to do and it may be the only way they can make money. The least we can do is be civil. I know it's hard and I fail at it myself at times, but they still deserve some respect.

If you don't agree, then just play games if it makes you feel better. I personally would not want to be on the receiving end of that. And hopefully you'll never have to resort to being a telemarketer yourself so you can see how it is firsthand. I'm just sayin'.  :notworthy:

You do know there was a thing called caller ID for land line phones - right? I think most people do that. I have a friend though he always answers. He will talk to them and mess with them.

I see what you are saying and I do agree - yes they are people - yes they are trying to do a job. And most likely have been lied to and told how they can make all this money. They make a commission off the sales. I think the thing that upsets people the most is if I tell you I am not interested then accept that. Don't call me back the next day or a few hours later the same day.

Honestly I feel this type of job should be against the law. Esp since so many are now cell phones and it costs that person minutes, thus costs them money for a spam call.

And most times these type calls are trying to scam you so I don't feel too bad about how people treat them. They treat people bad themselves. I have been cursed and harassed when I said no to making a purchase from someone who called me on the phone. I think it was selling magazine scripts.  I think most people these days (kind of like trying to do surveys as a full time job) are looking for a get rich quick scheme. A way to make money while putting forth as little effort as possible.  I usually do not answer the phone if it is a number I do not recognize.  Even local numbers, if it is important they can leave a message.  So many numbers are spoofed it likely is still a spam call. Businesses I deal with I have as a contact in my phone so it shows up their name.

The donotcall does not work.  I signed up for that years ago and it is worthless.  Most of the calls are routed from other countries so apparently there is nothing our government can do.  Although if we done it to some other country I guarantee they could punish us.  Also where the calls are spoofed the number you report is not necessarily who made the call.  I have been through that and that is what I was told when they responded to my complaint.

You can go in on the donotcall.gov site and fill out a complaint if you get a telemarketing call.  But if it is random those type calls are not illegal. If you specifically have asked the company to not contact you again they are breaking the law. But you have to have proof.  And as I just stated so many calls are spoofed there is a good chance the number used to call you is not where the call came from.  They are also spoofing email addresses as well.

I have gotten more calls lately from telemarkers both on my home phone as well as from my cell. I can block unwanted calls from my cellphone but couldn't do it on my home landline (at least not conveniently). I memorize some of the spam phone numbers now.

Most of the calls come in as spam for me. When I do accidentally answer the call, I just tell them I am not interesting. People are just trying to do their job. It's not that big of a deal to me.

It just shocks me that anybody buys from these rude telemarketers. Is this still a legitimate business plan? Also, they try so many different local numbers to try to trick you into answering! Do they really think I would buy ANYTHING from people who are so dishonest in their tactics? This is a true and annoying mystery to me!  :peace:

Telemarketers are no fun especially when they call at 8 in the morning.

I do entertain some of those calls but rarely and it is bothersome for me in particular because of what countrygirl said. I have minutes and I just burned through them yesterday mostly because of people texting me crap I don't want.

I get them but never answer the phone.  They will leave messages and I just delete them.
