You can do it 😁

I am not Catholic, but have given up so many other things.
-
I am not Cathlet, but I do fast for my Father in Heaven.
-
Not a criticism of anyone here by ANY means, but please also remember the call during Lent for more prayers and almsgiving in addition to the call for fasting.

I totally agree

A man gets a piece of wood and sets it on fire.He stays warm by it and cooks with it.
Then Isaiah 44.17 continues.......
New International Version
From the rest he makes a god, his idol; he bows down to it and worships. He prays to it and says, “Save me! You are my god!”
Isnt that the same praying to a nameless god?

Keep at it Donnamarg323, you may even find some folks to convert to JW on here, but I suspect you won't find any in this thread.
You can keep up your needling of Catholics and other Christians, but we DO NOT worship pieces of wood. No matter how many times you say it, it is not going to become true - despite the lies that your church has brainwashed you with about us.
But at least we still have topic in politics that we can talk about and agreed upon! ;)

UGP,needling? The scripture is referenced in Isaiah.Look it up cos i dont expect you to learn it with your study.
Also Lent is NOT a command Jesus gave. There is nothing wrong with fasting, its just NOT a command as Jesus Memorial he gave RE his death.
And please when i bring up name less gods,NONE of you use TRUE Gods name and Jesus said Hallowed or holy be thy name and he also said how he made Gods name known.Needling? If you think bible truths are needling you REALLY better take a hard look at your religeon.
When you find the command where Jesus said to observe Lent in the bible, please show us.Again Jesus didnt say you couldnt do it.Its like Xmas, its NOT there!!Just like we can thank God and Jesus coming to earth and represent his father and die a ransom death,12/25 is NOT in bible and started with false relgeon. Its Nisan 14 or Passover when he actually died and that was the command to observe. His birth means nothing if he didnt die and suffer.

UGP,needling?
Yes, Donnamarg323. Needling.
Also Lent is NOT a command Jesus gave. There is nothing wrong with fasting, its just NOT a command as Jesus Memorial he gave RE his death.
Never said Lent was a command direct from Jesus. But it IS a Church Tradition for self reflection and preparation for the Easter season. You continually confuse the concept that everything we do must be explicitly spelled out in the Bible or a direct quoted command from Jesus. Those are definitely primary influences on what we do, but they do not spell out everything that we do. Jesus gave authority to St. Peter and the Apostles to continue the Church that He instituted. Lent was then established in the early days of the Church. Jesus created the Church. The early Church established Lent. Lent continues to be practiced today. Jesus did not utter the words: "You are all ordered to observe Lent after my death and resurrection." That doesn't make its current practice and observation any less valid.
If you think bible truths are needling you REALLY better take a hard look at your religeon.
My religion, which was instituted by Jesus Christ and follows the Traditions of the Apostles, is doing just fine.
When you find the command where Jesus said to observe Lent in the bible, please show us.Again Jesus didnt say you couldnt do it.
So wait a minute here. Are YOU saying that Lent is not in the Bible BUT Jesus never said it was prohibited? I am confused. There are many many Traditions that are not spelled out in the Bible. Just like you said in the quote immediately above, this doesn't make them prohibited. We finally understand each other!
Its like Xmas, its NOT there!!Just like we can thank God and Jesus coming to earth and represent his father and die a ransom death,12/25 is NOT in bible and started with false relgeon.
I've answered this at least once before and perhaps several times, I cannot recall. You refuse (or I should say that your church will not allow you) to consider MY sources on the Christmas debate. Donnamarg, we cannot have a fair debate on this because your church does not allow fair debate. So you can keep on repeating your mantra about pagan Christmas and things not in the Bible and keep posted the robotic JW responses that contain flawed logic and interpretations. Until you are willing to read or listen to alternative opinions (not JW bashing opinions or agenda driven opinions, but literally objective well reasoned opinions that are willing to consider all arguments) = we cannot debate this question.

So i guess the only way youwill understand is when the governments of the world put Babylon the Great in oblivion.
Yes i know doctrines of Satan/man started in churchs.Satan is Jehovahs enemy and understand this,he will NOT support any teachings of the devil or man that challenge his truth.
Thats why the JWs test everything according to Gods word and have love among themselves, not support the political system or kill each other in wars.
Christendom DOESNT support the bible!!JWs have examined many of their doctrines and they fall short with bible truths. The bible says to remove the wicked one from among you.The Catholic religeon turned the other way for yrs about this with all the sexual scandals.
You think you will die and go to heaven? If you do hopefully by then you will know Gods name.LOL!!But i seriously doubt you are 1 of the 144000.
Lent is described in one of the links i put up.You are right i am not interested in the teachings of Christendom.I knew at a very young age when i was a Catholic this god is evil/mean.And i didnt know the bible or JWs then.Im glad Jehovah allowed me to know the truth and yes it did set me free from all the pagan and demonic doctrines of the world.I am far from perfect too and have had my battles with my imperfect flesh but as Jesus said he would refresh our souls and his load is light.

The fallacy in your understanding is that you believe that the Bible is the ONLY source of truth and then you (i.e. your church, not you personally) manipulate so many of the verses taken out of context to support doctrines that have no rational basis in the Bible as a whole itself. The Bible is not the sole source of truth. It is part of a larger understanding - including the institution of the Eucharist. So to address your point above = Christianity certainly does not support your limited conclusions of what the Bible does or doesn't say. In that frame of understanding, your point about Christianity not supporting your misperceptions about the bible is 100% true.
Also, every time you reference the Catholic Church and the sex scandals, you realize that you are spitting in the face of Matthew 7:3, right? Humans are imperfect and sinful. The Church that Jesus created, i.e. the Catholic Church (just as EVERY other church in the history of the world) is run by imperfect and sinful human beings. The sins of man don't invalidate the fact that the Catholic Church was instituted by Jesus Christ. Just so we are clear here, I am stating this for the benefit of other people who read your hatred spewed against Catholics and other Christians rather than in effort to change your mind. I know that ship has sailed.
I absolutely guarantee and promise you that if taken proportionally, the number of Catholic priests who have been involved in sexual immorality is roughly equal in proportion to the number of Jewish rabbis, or Methodist ministers, or Presbyterian pastors, or non-denominational church leaders, or yes even JW leaders who have committed the same horrific and detestable sins against innocent victims in their own church congregations. NONE of it is excusable and ALL should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. But when people like you and the news media who have an agenda against Catholics use that as a weapon to attack the Church as a whole you are absolutely saying and big collective F U to the Matthew 7:3 verse referenced above.
Are the leaders of my Church perfect and sinless? Hell no! Is the Catholic Church itself perfect? Well, it was started by Jesus Christ - the true God - when he walked the earth... not by some mortal man with an axe to grind. I certainly like those odds.
You think you will die and go to heaven? If you do hopefully by then you will know Gods name.LOL!!But i seriously doubt you are 1 of the 144000.
By saying you don't think I am going to be one of the 144,000 isn't that passing judgment on me? But even though passing judgment on others is something that the Bible says we aren't supposed to do, that part of the Bible isn't something that you have to follow. I am very confused by the inconsistencies that are inherent in your loose interpretation of the things prohibited by the Bible yet excusing other literal prohibitions.
I have no idea if I will go to heaven, but I sure do hope so. I have no interest in any misunderstood belief in the 144,000 elect or whatever literalist belief your church uses to conclude that some limited number of the billions upon billions upon billions of people who ever walked the earth will be saved. I think that science and math experts estimate that roughly 110 billion people have ever lived lived on earth from the dawn of time to 2022. 144,000 out of 110 Billion... That comes down to roughly 0.0001309% and that percentage is necessarily decreasing each and every day. (This also doesn't factor into consideration the millions of babies who are murdered every single year through abortion). Are you serious that the cutoff point of righteous people in all of history is that small? If those are the odds, I would venture to say that you have very little chance of being in that top 144,000 yourself! What happens to number 144,001 who is just a tiny bit less worthy than #143,999? Too bad 144,001! You missed the magic number cutoff!
Let's go back to those millions upon millions of murdered babies. None of them ever even had the opportunity to call out to Jehovah or to God or to Jesus or Allah or whomever they choose to call the Supreme Creator. But they've also never had the opportunity to sin or to behave despicably by donating blood or praying to the Holy Spirit. So inside their mothers' womb, they have lived the most pure sinless lives possible. Even if the 144,000 saved souls came exclusively from that club of aborted babies with the shortest, but most pure lives ever lived = if only limited to 144,000 how many of those millions and millions of murdered innocents are just out of luck by the sheer numbers?
I really don't mean to sound like I am bashing you here, but do you not see how cold that sounds? And add on top of that - somebody that has done every kindness imaginable and has committed every selfless act possible - but he made the grave and unforgivable sin of giving up his own blood to save the life of another person and/or failed to call God by the name Jehovah and he is immediately withdrawn from consideration of being a part of the chosen 144,000 people? Yet another man who lived a life just as pure as he did, and dutifully refused to donate blood when the medical need arose and always stepped in form by calling God by a specific name is so much more righteous and deserving of admission into this limited exclusive club?
Please, donnamarg323, I am truly asking you to explain to me how that in any way makes sense!
Lent is described in one of the links i put up.
Correction. A completely incorrect and ill-informed untruth about Lent is described in one of the links you put up.

First off UGP Jehovah can see the heart of us.The bible says he knows our heart better then we do.
You saw first hand from the evil-doer being executed with Jesus that Jesus saw he wanted TRUE forgivness and Jesus gave it to him.
You must always remember we inherited sin from A&E.The apostle Paul spoke of how frustrated he was cos when he wanted to do good, what was bad in him sometimes took over.
Jesus said there will be a resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous. They will ALL be given a chance to hear the truth once Gods kingdom starts ruling the earth.
For us to receive eternal life be it in heaven or earth forever We must love God and obey him.He will set the rules/standards or we will be gone. Those commands can be found in the bible.
Jesus died once for all time to ransom mankind back from sin and to vindicate Jehovah is the rightful ruler of the universe.
Man doesnt live by bread alone.Your word is truth said Jesus RE his father.
Mankind has free will.Satans lie of mankind deciding for himself what was good and bad has been answered it doesnt work precisely why God allowed it to go on for 6000 yrs even tho thats only 6 days from Jehovahs timetable.
-
I wanna remind you again the bible says God created the earth to be inhabited and the righteous will live forever on it.
144000 go to heaven and rule as kings with Jesus,a small # compared to the billions that will live on earth.
Christendom has blinded many.Satan controls the political and religeous sytems on earth.Babylon the great will fall soon.
You wanna decide fro yourself what is good and bad thats up to you.Our lifes depend on if we are on Jesus side or we scatter as scripture says.
Since 1919 JWs sounding warning and truth about Bible truths.
-
Why do you think Babylon The Great is gonna get devoured? For 1000s of yrs in Gods name they have been teaching false doctrines, meddling in politics and wars and many other forms of worship that are NOT acceptable to God.
You make me laugh. You bring up the fact men are imperfect from the sexual scandals.
While Jehovah is certainly a God who forgives ,what Christendom has done for a longtime they deserve punishment from God and soon they will get it.
IT IS WRITTEN!!!!Satan and mankind are responsible for the misery/evil in this world.Jehovah will soon set the matter straight.GET OUT of Babylon the great if you dont wanna share with her sins.
That sums it up pretty well and NOT the way i interpet it.Its what the TRUE God has warned.
Christendom is going down the drain and that means ALL religeons.
Zeph 2:3 Seek Jehovah, seek righteousness, seek meekness. You may be concealed in the day of Jehovahs anger.

So getting things back on topic here (sorry for the diversion, cateyes1), what sorts of things are the rest of you giving up for Lent (and praying for and giving alms to)?
I have decided to give up all sweet foods for Lent (and then my wife bought me an amazing lemon blueberry muffin at our favorite coffee shop where we met for lunch yesterday)! I couldn't blame her as I often get one of those muffins there and they are fantastic. But we were meeting some other folks for lunch there, so I was able to give it to them to enjoy and maintain my Lenten sacrifice.
In addition to many other things on my prayer list, I am making a concerted effort to pray daily for two family members and the wife of a good friend of mine (she is a friend also, I just knew the husband much longer than her) all of whom have fallen away from the faith. Of course I am also praying for peace in Ukraine.
My wife and I have decided to contribute to the Annual Catholic Appeal in our Diocese. In years past, we weren't financially able to do this, but we have been blessed and have decided to take part. There are many charitable services that this appeal supports - all very good causes.
I ask for anyone who is so inclined to pray for me and for my Lenten intentions. I would be happy to return the favor should anyone else request!

Just a reminder, the scriptures and explanations are referenced supported by the bible,Gods word.
Math 11:25 I praise you, father,Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.
