Title: Best ways to store and share home security footage and locksmith service files o
Post by: LuciaSer5 on October 25, 2025, 02:00:30 pm

Hey everyone! So last weekend I had my front door lock replaced after losing the keys at a friend’s barbecue. The locksmith was super professional and even helped me check if my door frame was still solid. The only issue — he sent me all the warranty papers, photos of the lock, and a few short video clips of how to reset it… all in a RAR file. I had no idea how to open it on my Mac and had to borrow my neighbor’s Windows laptop just to see what was inside. I’m curious — how do you guys handle these kinds of compressed files on Mac? And also, any recommendations for trustworthy locksmiths in Kingston who can send docs in a more Mac-friendly way next time?

I totally get you — I had to deal with the same thing when I changed my office locks last spring. The technician sent a bunch of manuals and setup videos in a compressed folder, and I couldn’t extract them at first. I ended up using Commander One from this link: https://commander-one.com/rar-app-for-mac/ — it lets you open, view, and extract RAR files without needing any extra software, plus you can connect cloud services directly to it. I’ve been using it for organizing invoices and locksmith manuals ever since. It’s also handy for sorting backups and surveillance video archives.

Just stumbled upon this thread — interesting timing since I’m also reorganizing my home office files. Honestly, I didn’t realize locksmiths send archives like that, but I guess it makes sense with all the digital paperwork now. I’d recommend creating a dedicated “Home Security” folder on your desktop and setting up automatic backups, so you don’t lose important receipts or lock details later on.
