Religulous**  :D

You finally posted something I can agree with haha

I wish he would have done a slightly better job at portraying serious points, but the film is very good, compelling, interesting, and most importantly to him I would think...humorous.

I have also thought of visiting it, but I looked at the prices and was nearly brought to tears at the amount of money they're making off their bullshit.

I actually sat back and watched this last night and got a kick out of it. I wish I knew it was online free to watch earlier! Good stuff.

It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible.

While just government protects all in their religious rights, true religion affords to government its surest support.

Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of man and citizens. The mere politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them. A volume could not trace all their connexions with private and public felicity. Let it simply be asked, Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths, which are the instruments of investigation in Courts of Justice?

And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle. It is substantially true, that virtue or morality is a necessary spring of popular government. The rule, indeed, extends with more or less force to every species of free government. Who, that is a sincere friend to it, can look with indifference upon attempts to shake the foundation of the fabric?

The most perfect maxims and examples for regulating your social conduct and domestic economy, as well as the best rules of morality and religion, are to be found in the Bible. . . . The moral principles and precepts found in the scriptures ought to form the basis of all our civil constitutions and laws. These principles and precepts have truth, immutable truth, for their foundation. . . . All the evils which men suffer from vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery and war, proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible. . . . For instruction then in social, religious and civil duties resort to the scriptures for the best precepts.

...but hey if it helps you to sleep at night thinking everyone who doesn't agree with you will burn in hell, that's your problem :) Kinda hateful if you ask the average non-believer..

Hundreds of years ago these same religious freaks burned people fr being witches, and executed those who tried to show that the earth revolved around the sun. The church all thought that the earth was the center... oops. maybe you believe that too! not sure, depends on which decade or century you decide to have "faith" in the current 'preachers' or whatever.

If you have so much Faith in your "Savior" then what would be the harm in watching this...?

Doesn't a Bible verse read something like : "I shall fear no man but God"? Then shouldn't you be able to laugh at something like this..I mean they criticize alot of different Religions you know...Mormonism, Jews, Muslims some of the funniest.

Anyone have a favorite scene from this movie?

It is a waste of time to argue, we are told to tell a person twice, if they do not listen, they are not going to.
If someone refuses to believe, they are not going to, right now. You have done your part, you witnessed.
When they are standing on the side, saying please let me come over, let me taste that water, it will be too late.
They have been told, they have been warned. You have to kick the dust from your sandals, and move on to someone who wants to listen.

The movie deals with people like you! You should swallow your pride and just watch it. Take it with a grain of salt even-- just remember the water's always open for tasting on the agnostic side  :)

I haven't seen in it a while, but one of the more memorable is when he's out in the street (in NY I think) screaming about Scientology like one of those genuine nuts.  People were buying it :P I though that was pretty funny.  The other part was where he went into that trucking chapel and the guy got all pissed because Bill asked a couple questions.

I like the part where he was interviewing Mark Pryor , a senator from Arkansas. He asked if he really thought things began with Adam and Eve and a talking snake. When Pryor said "maybe" Maher said it was worrisome that someone running the country could believe in such a thing.
The senators response was " You don't have to pass an IQ test to be in the senate."

I got a kick out of the part where the guy in the suit and tie was speaking about god and then suddenly started speaking gibberish as if he was speaking in some foreign tongue. It still bugs me that people were/still are falling for that stuff.

I also enjoyed the Senator part...but I kind of feel bad for him since Bill put him in a corner. If he says he does believe it, he loses a lot of points for buying into a myth and rational people will get worried. On the other hand if he says he does not, I would imagine the majority of christians would not vote for him which is obviously a huge percentage. Tough break!

And the guy who said he was part of Jesus' lineage. What a nutjob. And that other guy who was super rich and sported fantastic clothing...the way Bill ratted him out was fantastic.

This film has a lot of great parts. Hard to say which one was the best.

My husband and I went there last summer!  :)

Here are some pictures:

1) Adam and Eve.  Giggity!
2) Note the dinosaurs getting on the Ark.
3) The museum had many diagrams like this, interestingly.
4) A lovely billboard we passed on the highway.  This is Kentucky after all, people!

i have been taught that what goes in my eyes and ears goes to my mind , what goes to my mind then goes to my heart , what goes to my heart then comes out in my mouth and im my actions ..... as a believer in christ , those with an ear will hear .
