Title: Have you ever lost a pet?
Post by: GoGoKokiGo on January 19, 2010, 12:20:59 am
Just asking cause I may have lost my cat...well actually my brother's girlfriend may have.
I had to move into a different apartment that didn't allow cats and my brother said he would hold onto him for me. They only had him for less then two days and he's gone. His girlfriend let him out into the backyard and he never came back. Then it began to rain.
I get the feeling he may come back. But I'm still a little sad. He was an inside cat and my husband sort of spoiled him. Maybe he's just running around for fun. He has a collar and was microchipped by the animal shelter we got him from. Ugh I hate this. Damn that cat and his fence jumping abilities.  :crybaby2:   :cat:

:thumbsup:Don't worry, your cat is just checking things out. he will come back when he want's something to eat. I've had a LOT of cats, and you have to remember.. dogs have masters, cats have staff..

i have always had cats, but one time we moved across town and of course brought our cat, and our cat got outside and did not come back, a family friend who lived next to where we use to live , said she saw  a cat that looked like ours , and of course it was our cat... we took him back home and he did the same thing went back to the old house, so then we just left him for our friend to take care of ..  but that cat walked about 4 or 5 miles and trough pretty busy roads . cats are pretty good at figuring out how to get back home...just thought i would share..

If he has a microchip, can't they find him. Our took off for a little bit the first time he snuck out, he is not an outside cat either. I went out there and had some food and he came back. He probably was not use to his new surroundings. He should find his way back though, cats are pretty smart. They have stories, where they have traveled through states to get home. He may be headed back to you, they have very good instincts, they say that cats our of all the domesticated animals keep their wild instincts the most.

It's raining really hard for the second day in a row. So I'm hoping once this clears up he'll be able to find his way back, or maybe even check at the animal shelter I volunteer at.

It is certainly a dreadful experience to lose a pet. They become a member of the family and the loss can be terrible. I think cats are notorious for going away for a few days especially a mal :'(e.

The years pass and I still try not to think too much about the ones I have lost because it is just so painful.  I have three dogs, a cat and three turtles.  Cats are very resourceful but can get very traumatized when their living arrangements change.  I know you feel just horrible, but my cat often disappears for 24 hours or so and then returns.  I have no idea where he goes, but he is always hungry and sleeps for a day, so I guess he parties somewhere.  Not real safe, but I can't bear to lock him inside or  put him on a leash so off he goes.  I hope he comes back soon so you can feel better. I think with a little food, calling out and effort they could probably locate him.  I wonder if she really wanted the responsibility.

I have had my cat ran away for two weeks. Just as I began to lose hope, my cat hobbled home with a broken leg. The vet suspected he was in a fight with another wild animal, as the way it was broken seemed like someone had grabbed his leg and mangled it. :( But my cat was okay.

I hope your cat comes home like mine did!

I totally understand how you feel. I myself have lost several cats. Jasmine was 15 yrs old and died pretty quickly of kidney failure. Hodgie was 16 yrs old and died in my arms in the car on the way to the vet after being attacked and chomped on by a neighbors dog right in front of me. Bandit was 2 yrs old when he quickly died from UTI blockage. Same with his brother Simba, age 4, whom the vet said that it was not at all likely to happen twice from the same litter. Sheba, age 1, ran off and/or was stolen from my house in my absence. Roman, age 4, escaped when we were living in my car for 3 days (me & 6 cats) and I opened the door to get out. I looked for months and months for both missing cats, found Sheba at the place that found her but decided they were keeping her and not give her back, but Roman was forever gone. So believe me, I know how much it hurts to lose a furry child. But, somehow, that just doesn't stop me from continuing to adopt. Right now I have 6 cats (have had up to 9 at a time), Gabby, Milo, Blackie, Smokey, Muffin, & Sebastian. And, actually, I do still have Jasmine, Hodgie, Bandit, & Simba cause after they died, I had them cremated so they would still be with me til I die, then we will all be buried together. :)

I hope your little one is okay and comes back soon. Chances are pretty good, specially with the microchip, but if someone has trapped the cat (i've had a neighbor trap 3 of my cats before), it takes a few days to show up at the shelter. But most likely, it's out there struttin it's stuff (cats take FULL advantage of a freedom opportunity) and will re-appear soon. Good luck!

Thank you all very much. The little bugger still hasn't come back, and it's been raining since he has been gone. My brother keeps looking too and from the places he drives around. I feel sad but I have a good feeling that he's okay. Lol kitty intuition?

Yup..quite a few actually. We use to have a chow chow named Harley. Someone poisoned her and killed her. So when I got home from school my mom and bro were driving away and I ran up to them and asked what happened and they told me she was poisoned. =(

Then when I was about 16 I had a kitten who got sick one day and no vet could tell us what was wrong with it. After a few days the cat passed away. So we really love cats and decided it was time for another not too long after. (We've had cats our whole life!)
So we bring home a new addition! I loved it to death. But then after a few days there it started showing the same symptoms the other cat had before it died. (Not eating, drinking, becoming weary and weak, lazy etc) so I told my mom and once again we took this one to the vet and they didn't see a single thing wrong with it. About a week later it died too. We were devastated and lonely because we both love having a kitty to come home to and to now come home to a empty house where two cats just died..it was just rough. So we figured it had to be something in the house but we didn't know what. We did some major major cleaning around the house and replaced things, checked for hidden things etc but nothing.

We moved out not long after that and into a diff apt with a friend. We got a new cat then and I was so nervous/scared that this cat would get sick too..so for the first few days we were really cautious. But after a week or so the kitten was perfectly fine and we still have him til' this day. :)

^_^ I'm very happy to announce that THE FONZE IS BACK!!! My brother went to wash a bottle for my niece and saw a little black thing by the window. Turned out to be the kitty.  His collar is missing and he's really hungry but other then that my brother says he's okay.  :cat:

I do want to say thank you to everyone who posted in here. A lot of the posts made me feel a lot better, and kept me from crying my eyes out. And also I'm sorry to those who also had a loss. I haven't lost a pet since I was MUCH younger, the feeling still sucks. I hope those of you who have felt it never have to feel it again, and those who haven't never have to feel it ever. Thank you all so much!

:sad1: A chiwawa just came to my house!! I put an ad in the paper, but no one will claim him.. He is a toy chiwawa, and has those weird looking bug eyes.. I'm calling him Steve, after that actor, Steve Bushimi,, from 'FARGO'.. I would really like to find a home for him, because my dog, Joey, dosen't like him.
