Post by: kew004 on January 24, 2010, 06:23:54 pm
I'm a full time student, and am currently having a HORRIBLE time finding a job.  No one is hiring!! It is very frustrating.  Anyone know of any companies that are currently hiring??

It would depend very much on your area. I tried to find a part time job the past two summers and got nothing. :

Has anyone else tried to apply for the census jobs.  Easy process, good pay and limited time job. My husband and I applied and so did my nephew.  Can't post the link here but if you googled it it would probably come up.  Good luck.

I've been looking for more work myself, and in doing so I came across this awesome book entitled ODD JOBS: 101 Ways to Make an Extra Buck by Abigail Gehring, which incidentally led me to this neat site and gave me a lot of interesting ways to make money in my spare time. Definitely worth checking out at your nearest library if you're struggling to make ends meet or just want some extra cash.

:icon_rr:  (just wanted to try out that fro smiley)

I have been looking for a job for over a year now. Seems like employers can be more picky who they want to hire because so many people need jobs. That and alot of places arnt hiring.

Probably delivering pizzas is about the only kind of job that might be easy to get right now. That's because of the gas prices going back up again.
But if you print out a bunch of cards on your printer you can make good money with fusion cash. If you get just 3 people per hour to sign up that is
$9 per hour since you make $3 per person that signs up. You can go to job centers and pass them out, also at the city bus stops, and leave them
in restrooms at gas stations. Just make it a regular thing to pass out cards every day. Soon your down line will grow. Then later on when they cash out you will also get $5 per person as well.

Absolutley. I have been searching for six months now. It's like every time I get my hopes up about something, I get a big let down in the end. Everyday, I stay looking for a part-time job. There is an online job agency that I check with everyday to see whose hiring for online jobs where you can work from home. I have found a work at home writing job, but that job isn't consistent enough to gain a real income with. I get one writing assignment and it's weeks before I get another one. I am looking for something consistent, not every one in a while.

Wow, thanks for the tip! I might try passing out cards and see how it works out. Has this been working for you? The referral link is pretty
long though. Do you think people would really get online and type in the whole url?

You can use a shortening service like tinyurl or snurl plus there are ones that also pays you for so many hits. But for business cards I suggest using one of the first two mentioned. That way they are directed directly to your link. They give you an option to choose a name of your own or they give you a computer generated link. But it makes it a lot shorter then the regular link and is easier to type in that way.

if you don't mind cold-calling you can go to Brighten Communications.com-they are always hiring for work at home telemarketers. When you fill out the application, make sure to tell them you have prior experience. The pay is $10.00 an hour for the first 20 hours and then it goes up to $12.00. I tried it but found I was no good at cold-calling

Nope unfortunately my husband's in the same boat.  He works in a kitchen and has 3 days off a week, so plenty of time to work another job but no one has good part-time jobs available.  He's about to try pizza delivery, but even that is overstaffed at some places.

WOW! I'm surprised you guys already picked up on the whole Pizza Delivery jobs lol. Its so true too. I've had sooo many interviews and background checks and yet none of them would call me back, they always said "oh next wednesday, this or that" making up excuses pretty much. What you have to do is go out and apply at EVERYSINGLE PLACE in your city and those around you. You will eventually get a call, and if you dont get one a week or more later, go out and place some more. Im 19 and just started my first real job (pizza delivery) i've been searching very hard since i was 16, now thats a really tough time. I had to make up some experience to get in pretty much. But yeah, pizza delivery is the way to go, when i placed about 20 apps in 2 days, i had 2 phone calls a couple days later for interviews at Pizza Hut and East Of Chicago, both for delivery. I stuck w/ pizza hut cuz they called me a couple days later to start and im happy with the money. You get reimbursted the gas pretty much, along with tips and $7.30 an hour. But it's a boat load of work in the kitchen dont get me wrong. Good Luck and keep it up.

I myself am having a hard time finding another job. I work for H&R Block already but my job ends on the 15th of this month. I currently just enrolled into University of Phoenix but I am still looking for a job. I can't find anything except those work from home jobs and they want you to pay them. What to do?

yeah i have a heck of a time finding a job when i need one. i got lucky when i found liberty tax. it was only seasonal but it was something and its more experience to put on my resume' and job history on job applications. im one of those wavers u see on the side of the road. i work tomorrow and the rest of the week. its a very boring job but theres only 3 days left of it for me. im not gonna do it again next year but if u really really really need a job go for it.

Finding a part time job is proving to be very difficult for me...age seems to make a difference and there is very little going on in our rural community.  Also, not being a native is strikes against me as well.  Trying to find a work from home thing that will work but haven't found anything yet.  They say this is a man-cession (as opposed to a regular recession) but with the recored unemployment at more thabn 10% I think it is just going to stay this way for a long long time.

Iagree with supptrashcan....if you get at job, keep it.  I quit mine after 25 years foolishly thinking I could get another and so did my husband.  What a couple of idiots we were!!!!  Well, supptrashcan, hope you got the job..

Try caregiving. Always jobs for any of your scheduling needs if you do not mind elderly folks and are not grossed out by the body or cleaning of the body. It doesn't pay well and it isn't prestigious but trust me you can get a job in a hurry if you are willing to do what is needed. This is a very high demand area and a high burn out rate.

My advice go into home care if you take this route since you will be working one on one instead of taking care of 15 people at a time.

My small-earnings plan for the next 4 years  (it's actually losing me $ currently) is my blog and forum  blog.nvsounds.com and forum.nvsounds.com  It's a place to talk about Music and Philosophy, as well as many other various topics.  If your interested on Music or Philosophy, check it out!  :peace:

I'm eventually planning on selling Custom-Built speakers (I am an audio designer) on the main site, but I have been too busy with school to have time to build.

I agree. I have a full time job so i shouldnt complain, but my husband cannot work. we lost about a third of our income when he stopped working. My job is really flexible so i could work something part time as well, but finding something part time that is also flexible had been nearly impossible. Many of the jobs i have run across researching online, are pretty sketchy. sigh

I've been searching ever since I graduated high school. I'm presently going to college, but finding a job, let alone one that corresponds with my schooling hours, has been ridiculous. Even without experience, they'd say i was over-qualified because I'd do well on tests they'd give (places like Home Depot) or that 'they weren't presently hiring anybody' even though they've had a "We're Hiring!" sign outside of the building for weeks.

I haven't had a hard time finding a job, full or part time, in the past but the present seems a bit more difficult.  My last paycheck from one job is this Friday and a second job finishes up, most likely, on June sixth.  This gives me more than a month to find another job but I have heard that a lot of people are averaging about two months in their job search.  Even Starbucks is taking their time on part-time hires.

It's extremely hard to find a job right now. But since you're a student, you might check with your university if you haven't already and look into the career center (or equivalent department) and get some career advice from them. They might be able to help you find a job. Good luck! And don't get discouraged.

Honestly it's going to get a lot harder once more people graduate in May. I'm a recent college graduate and I'm still having trouble finding a good job. I had an $8/hr job that killed me mentally because it didn't involve any thought into the matter, I didn't get enough hours out of it to be worth the long drive to and from work, and honestly I didn't see myself advancing in that company.

I'm more than qualified to be a store or restaurant manager, I've had two years working in a restaurant as a supervisor, two years as a resident assistant in the dorms, along with an internship at a state's district attorney's office. I've done work along with obtaining a bachelor's degree, but unfortunately people 10-15+ years my age are more experienced and looking for those similar jobs. It's tough, but luckily you get to that point where "No" really doesn't affect you so much, and you start applying for more and more openings. Because really, the worst a company will say is "No". Once you overcome that, apply to whatever you feel like applying to.

If anyone has a PETCO near them, check their website. They just posted a bunch of part time jobs in all the areas near me, and I saw in other states they had a bunch of part time jobs too. Also sometimes IKEA has a lot of part time jobs, if there is one near you.

I am currently unemployed after 30 years and am having a hard time finding a full time job with benefits.  Good luck on your search!  My daughter has gone to UK full time and worked two jobs at the same time for the past four years.  It's been tough on her but I believe it has matured her tremendously.  She has more value on money, time, life... now.

No, I so hear ya.  I can't find a part time or full time job and the only ones hiring are for manager possitions.  I was talking to this one friend who is a manager in the produce section and se was talking about how she was training these people for three years and they still don't know what to do but when I asked her about a job she told me she only trains for a month and if you can't do the job by then they let you go.  I still can't figure that one out.

I came back from living in Korea in 2006, where I was a missionary. Since that time I have a hard time finding any work.. I developed a small business but now even that is suffering due to the economy. I am not sure what I am going to do next.

It is very hard find a job, even part time, especially full time. I am working 2 part time jobs now. Both in the medical field, which is big here in NY.  Try looking into a job agency. You could also look into group homes. They need direct care counselors or direct support specialists on every shift - a.m., p.m., overnights, relief, weekends. . . .  I work weekends only at a group home. You have to be able to work with people with special needs; most run a criminal background check & u have to have a driver's license.  The pay is decent, some offer medical benefits to p/t workers who work a certain # of hrs.  Good luck!

I'm a full time student, and am currently having a HORRIBLE time finding a job.  No one is hiring!! It is very frustrating.  Anyone know of any companies that are currently hiring??

I was having a hard time also until I realized I[ needed to try harder, I called every place in my area and also walked in asking if they were hiring. You gotta let them know you're out there and willing to work, you gotta call people every couple of days and keep reminding them. Don't just keep trying for one place, try for as many places as you can, someone is out there who will hire you. Have confidence, all hope is not lost.

I wish I did. I have been out of work for at least 5 years. I looked for work for about 2 years and then had to stop looking. There just wasn't anything out there for me and my health had declined further which didn't work in my favor when applying anywhere.

Really?  Are you just discovering that no one is hiring?  Where have you been?  The economy has stunk for years.  Good luck on finding a job.

Any luck finding a job yet?  I noticed that it has been a while since you made this post.  However, since it is getting closer to the holiday seasons you may have a good shot of finding employment at department stores.  A lot of department stores hire extra staff to help through this time of year.  They may let you go afterwards but in the meantime it is an income.

When I was looking for a part time job I had a hard time. I finally had to take a job that was only 3-4 hours a week. It was barely worth it to even go in! In the next month or so all the tax places will be starting to hire, I worked for Jackson Hewitt when I was in college.

I have always had a job so but sometimes have been hard when I had a lot of medical problems.  I have set up at flea markets in the past but they are not doing good now.  I am now making fried peach pies and they sell good.  Think outside of the box and you will find something that you can get some extra money.  My son and daughter in law lost their jobs on the same day as their plant closed down.  I had to help them and her family did too.  Hope everyone has a good day and may God bless each of you and keep you safe.

I do odd jobs, I have been working the elections for over 8 years now. I worked for GoodWill last year, and that was the biggest stressor in my life to see people be dishonest in a place as that. I am tired of seeing people taken advantage in the work place, and now I am going back to school to be right in the middle of the workplace as a Christian Counselor and I can do something beneficial to our broken system. So no I am not having a hard time looking for a part time job, because if the only ones I can get right now are those type, I don't want them, I would rather go back and get my degree and help others, if it take all kinds of money and effort to do so.

Check out craigslist in your area, that should help.
