They could legalise Marijuana tax it to make money. And will save money from not arresting or incarcerating weed offenders. What do you think the percentage of law makers now smoke or have smoked weed in the past? I would think do smoke now 40% have smoked in the past 85% Any other ideas???

Just an idea....but what if every government worker's salary was cut by $100.00? There has to be thousands of government workers from the post office to the President.
$100 wouldn't phase them. I imagine they wouldn't miss $1000 either, but just the scope of dollars that could be saved if every government worker "gave up" a little could be Huge.
Perhaps they could cut down on the amount every retired government worker receives too....

I agree completely. When you go to a concert...you don't hear the trumpet.. you hear the band. And if you DO hear the trumpet...then the trumpet is not working toward the greater good. We should all love the sound of of the band as a whole better than the toot of our own horn.

The entire system needs an overhaul. As time goes on people are becoming more aware of how much things have deteriorated or were never that great to begin with. There is more transparency these days. The house and the senate need to work for the Americans instead of themselves. Not all members of Government are guilty of this, but there are far too many that are. Some of the members of congress are just big spoiled babies.
I think that more and more people are becoming concerned and unhappy with our Government. I know I am, and to me, it has nothing to do with being a Republican or a Democrat. It's just poor all around and needs serious improvement.

When cops make a marijuana bust, its a bunch of stoned people sitting around watching cartoons.
But on a daily basis they get called for a domestic disturbance because some drunk guy is beating his wife.
Give me ONE REASON that marijuana should be kept illegal that couldn't also apply to cigarettes and tobacco.
Legalize weed. And I don't mean just decriminalize it. I should be able to walk into a 7-11 and buy a bag of weed the same way I can buy a pouch of tobacco.
While we're at it, lower the drinking age to 18.

Why would we only want to cut down the salaries of only government positions? Why not ask every American to give up $100 from their paycheck to bankroll other pork funds and such? When they take the money of the taxpayer, it seems to end up in another pocket.
While we are asking for a reduction in pay, why not ask people that are sucking the welfare system dry to get off of welfare after two years? How about those that are living off of unemployment but are perfectly capable of working at the burger joint but refuse because they feel entitled to a little government payment for several months? Let's take it just one step further and ask people to reduce their caloric intake as to reduce their need for medical intervention later in life and ultimately reduce the need for disability payments because of diabetes or hypertension that could have been managed through an active lifestyle filled with an appropriate diet?
These are as valid contributions and reductions as are any others but most people will NOT take the responsibility of "self" to become less of a burden to a community or nation. The bottom line is that all people need to become responsible from the points of view of diet, exercise, budget management and self worth. We need to find the pride that was displayed when this country was founded and relive the principles of JFK when he stated "Ask not what our country can do for us but what we can do for our country".

Not only should the salaries of the elected officials and their "appointed" cronies be cut, but welfare should be eliminated, as well as all the other programs that support some people at the expense of others (the ones that actually work for a living). The corruption would be eliminated of our "representatives" weren't getting outrageous saleries, because if the positions were not so lucrative, only the people that actually wanted to serve our country would run for office.

:BangHead:Ever since school when we had to read the Declaraction of Independence I realized right then and there that WE THE PEOPLE referred to the President and the Congressional Office. The government official's make the laws to benefit more money in their pockets and no regards for the citizens themselves. As long as there is a President and the Congressional office the citizens will always get screwed over.

The Government would do better if they charged more for exports, and stop giving free loans to people who come over here from India, to start a bussiness where they can rip us Americans off.

Stop taxing people. Period. The more money in your wallet, the more you will spend. The number of government employees is overwhelming!! You should cut the work force by at least 1/4. Additionally, hire civilian contractors to do the some of the work for the 1/4 of the government folks you let go. Civilians can do the job better and cheaper. All of this would save the government money and put civilians back to work. :star:

The government will always be in debt. The truth is all governments are in debt to the banks that lent them the money in the first place. right now the governments around the world owe $50,000+ per person in their so-called countries.
FACT: Washington D.C., the vatican city and the london city are their own countries!!!!!!!!!! They have their own flag, their own mail system, their own laws and their own news etc. Also they all have giant stone penises in their yards, I mean obelisk >:(

I believe that would save money but the n those people would have it hard, hey are used to their income just inagie sombody taking money even $100 from you that ends up being double my car insurance, i know id be very upset if someone would cut my income because i could not afford to live at all

Well in order to have a good start on this question, people need to declare what services should be controlled by the government and what should be operated by the private sector. In other words, how much freedom would one forfeit in order to have security and vice versa?

Hello, did you just see the election this past week. The monies spent on candidates on both parties. It really makes me want to throw up. The government doesn't need ways to make money or save money. They just need to arrest those closet billionaires who give monies to the corrupted republicans then they get tax breaks when their chosen candidates get into office.
You know what the American people could have done with those billions of dollars to run this mid term elections, enough to get us out of the red in the economy! So if that is the case, I suggest that the government should for solutions to save America:
1. yes legalize Marijuana
2. allow citizens to claim our pets as we claim our children on income tax day.
3. Put prostitution on the pay roll
4. Cut out fribblous & money wasting laws
5. Outlaw money wasting elections such as the one that just passed.
6. Cut or change out date laws that may have applied in the 1900's but doesn't make sense in the 21st century.
7. Change the terms of the candidates elected. For example they should have a 90 day trial on the job & be kicked out if they don't pass the 90 days. Just like any body who is first hired on the job.
8. Shorten the term of the candidate. Nobody should be in office for 15 to 20 years or longer.
9. Not tax cut for anybody, tax the people according to their income status. That means the rich will be taxed more than the middle class & poor.
10. The people should have more control on the monies used from their taxes. For example, I didn't know that my taxes was building a court house with marble counters & flat screen tvs in every judges room. I'm buying the cheapest materials to update my crumbling home & this *bleep* is going on! The people will know where the monies is going & will be judging on where it goes & how much is spent.
11. New laws on limiting over population of poor & homeless people having children with no controls placed in. Example: the poor mother with 6 kids (different fathers), no job, no husband, no income,.... mandate education with free birth control access or free tube tying surgery for women that want it.
12. Tougher laws on animal control. Stiffer fines on animal abuse. Tougher laws on over population of animals by careless owers. Fines to those that don't spay or neuter their pets.
13. EAT less, exercise more less health problems.
14. Increase exercise & less mcs for dinner for young kids. Obesity costs money.
15. create energy producing produces for example the stationary bike can charge up your toaster or car. Save energy & lose weight. All rolled in one!!!!
16. Using crap for energy. In Asia they have farms where they use cow & pig poop to run the electricity. They've even got toilets now that sends the crap to the recycling center & they recycle human crap as well.
17. Cut out transportation that uses gas as much as possible like walking or riding you bike.
18. hydroponics; growing plants in water instead of using soil.
19. People in the cities create their own gardens & raise chickens on the roofs tops of their apartment buildings.
20. Build small amusement parks in each state. Some place for the family to go on the weekend & not have to go out of state or out of the country to go on vacation. Several years ago, we almost got a small park built near the rich section but the rich *bleep* group didn't want middle class folk to taint their neighborhood. So, it was squashed. It would have given a lot of people jobs for the summer. Now, we got people robbing, murdering, & kidnapping....etc well, we've got no jobs here so....

I am an ex government worker that lives in the Metro DC area and I agree with alot of the Comments here. I left the Government after 12 years. I saw directly that waste and Incompetance was alot of the Problem. There were individuals that could not make it in Business. The problem is that the entrenched that have about 25 years or better are getting the outrageous retirements. Individual that entered the Government after the mid 1980's, they do not get a large retirements (only 1 percent of salary times amt of years) usually about 35-40,000 a year for 40 years. I have worked in three areas - US Military, Private Sector, Civil Service. I receive very little from civil service retirement. The individuals that came into the Government prior to the 1980's need to loose some of their retirements, but that will not happen. Most of them retire with 75-80 percent of their saleries. This pertains to all government weather they are elected or Civil service.

Yeah, then it would be okay, then everyone would be walking around stoned, kids wouldn't learn anything in school cuz they would be staren out the window seein how white the snow is and not payen attention to the teacher, laborers would be messen up cars and things that would cause accidents and eventually cause people to die, cuz they was stoned and didn't realize what they were doing, people would be too high to go to work, bills wouldnt get paid, yeah that is what this country needs high society.

I think a great super way for the government to make tons and tons of money is to go to this huge well-known company called AT&T and fine them $250 every time they overcharge one of their customers. What urks me and I have told them is that they penalize us if we are a day late. If they mess up we cannot do a durn thing to them! :angry7:

Cut off all pay for millionaire and billionaire people working for the city, state, and federal government. They were elected to serve the people, but are getting richer with taxpayers $$$$$.

Cut down a lot on aid to other countries and take that money to aid ourselfs. Too much money to given to foreign aid like Afganistan. Like they will ever aid us when we are in need. Being back jobs to the United States. Don't outsource them to other countries like China. Legalize marijuana.

In my opinion I think government officials should take a pay cut and not be able to vote themselves raises and also the politians should take all the money they get for their campains and put that back into the economy ( do you relize how much theses people get in contrabutions for their campains?)

Legalize and Regulate Online Poker!! I could list many others like Eliminate Congress, Legalize Marijuana, etc... Reality is those will never happen, but Online Poker has a chance and would bring a nice chunk of tax revenue to the govt if legalized and regulated. :thumbsup:

Republican and democrat not all but most need to work for the people not for themself,house and senat need to have realist bugets, taxpayer need to change their bad habit's and take the responsibility of self.

Cut every agency's money by 5% or go back to the 2008 levels. Eliminate the fraud in Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare, Food Stamps and Social Security Disability. Every time a new agency/department is created 10 should be eliminated. Allow oil drilling which would create many jobs and get us off of foreign oil. Term limits for the Senate and House should be instituted and their salaries need to be cut. Congressional pensions need to be eliminated.

They could charge higher 'sin' taxes for alcohol, cigarettes and entertainment. They could stop paying anything for illegal immigrants and their off spring. They could close the postal service. They could stop waging unnecessary wars. Bailing out failing companies is absurd. Re-employ darwinism and let the strong survive. Stop spending money on useless things!

in case you don't already know!!!! our postal system is not funded by the government.(look it up) it is totally funded by the sales of stamps, bulk mail and anything else they can sell to the public or the business sector. that's why the postage keeps going up

I don't feel the the Senate and Congress should receive such ridiculous penisons (even when they don't serve entire terms or only 2 years) for the rest of their lives. The should have to pay into and get out of the same Social Security System that most everyone else does. They should not have the Health Care plan they receive (for life), they should have the same type of insurance as everyone else, and pay additional for each family member on it like everyone else. We could have a moratorium on monies given to other countries until our own budget is back in line. (except for disasters). CUT out pork belly projects, we need a line by line veto for the president on the budget. FREEZE the budget, you cannot add anything until it is in balance. These apply to federal, state, county and city governments. Let Canada send us their crude oil, instead of sending it overseas and having to pay 2 times as much to get it back. DO not give any government subsidies to companies that outsource their jobs, they can outsource they will just not get a bonus from us for doing it. When the budgets are not ready on time, the public officials in charge of them do not get paid, and do not get reimbursed when they finally get their jobs done. Contrary to what many think, we cannot just cut out welfare, some people really need it and it will be children who suffer the most. But we could make it more difficult to qualify for and more difficult to sell or give away your welfare funds. I could go on and on, we have to get people (particularly elected officials) to realize that the budget for the government has to be run just like our personal budgets...no money in no money out..short on money spend less...you cannot just keep raising the limits and the taxes.

well the government is not going to stop helping the illegal immigrants because they are the ones lining their pockets with money I think if the people rally and stop supporting their campaigns they might get the damn idea that THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO BE WORKING FOR US immigrations is a major problem that is effecting our economy and no one seems to care everyone complains about it so when are the people going to take a stand probally never because it takes less work to sit and complain then to get up and do something I don't even register to vote anymore there is no sense my opinion does not mean anything will change so i stopped voting the gold ole USA IS GOING DOWN and the people everyone elects into congress is helping.

Damn it, me in total agreement with falcon9 means I have to poke myself in the eye to 'normalize' things. Now that may not make sense, but it just didn't feel right to post "I agree" and leave it at that.

It was inevitably bound to happen however, if you're already 'half-blinded by faith', poking yourself in the other eye would be a further detriment.
If it's any consolation though, I've occasionally partially agreed, (on a tentative basis), with some things, (provisionally), that you've mentioned.

Stop all pork barrel spending. limit terms, put into ss just like us working people, cut out all loopholes. no retirement like they have, they should have to pay into thier retirement like the regular working person. Also pay for thier own insurance.
