I just recieved a check that looks legit from T.M.L. and it is basically to do some mystery/secret shopping. Has anyone actually had any dealings with them? I haven't been able to find any info on the internet and I am sort of afraid to deposit the check into my bank account and there is no local branch of their bank here where I could cash it. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance! :dontknow:

Hi, you can take it to your bank and they can investigate it before it goes into your account. I did this with a check I received once. Mine turned out to be a fake. Ask the manager at your bank to help you out. Good luck!

i'm confused. why would you get a check from them? is this from a past offer or something?

No They want me to be a secret shopper and make a series of purchases at different retailers with most of the money and keep the rest as a fee. I just wasn't sure about the validity of the offer.

I called the bank the check was written on and the check is written on a valid account but they said that the check is counterfiet. Apparantly someone else is using a legit business account to write phony checks. So beware if you get anything in the mail from them it is a scam. Just a heads up!

i'm in the same boot but mine is a bit diff... i got a check for 4883.00 to do the same thing... got the form with it and all to fill out for each company i am to do... and it is a site i had joined up with.... i called the bank on it and looked it online also.. the bank is online and open and looks legit... and when i called they said the check was good and told me the amount it was for and so on... they only asked my the account # and the check #.... it's a cashiers check... the thing that is stopping me from cashing it and doing this is, i have seen so many say that those sites don't send checks out. they send out gift cards for the stores. i could'nt find anything online on any of the scam sites or anything for the company but i'm still scared to cash it as i would have to use a check cashing place. and even if it did go threw there and something happened after. once i had spent the money doing what i'm supposed to... i don't have alsmot 5 grand to pay it back. from what it says, 500.00 is mine. the rest is for 5 diff places i am to do things at. 50 for walmart, 1200 for western union and things like that... what do you all think?. do you think since it has western union and the other money sending place on it they would know about them if i called?
thanks for your imput and sorry for someone trying to scam you.... other reason i am so leary is about a year ago a got a cashiers check in the mail for 7500.00 it had the water marks n everything. even the tellers at the bank said it looked legit. they would'nt know if it was fake. so i'm getting really happy at this point... ( it was from a company i had heard of... or thought i had.. saying a won a sweepsstake) low and beheld. i call the credit union on it... and same as your story.. it's a open account but a furged check. it was from pch direct so at 1st i thought it was just part of pch..... WRONG! so yes always be careful.
but like me know what you all think about this.

Yeah it is a scam. IF you look at your letter they sent you it says that when you call them they will tell you who to send the Western Union money to. That is the scam you deposit the check in your account and then send the money order to whoever they tell you. The check bounces and you are left with a truly messed up bank account and someone else has your western union money order.
That's what my letter said too.

i'm thinking about going ahead and doing it now that i talked to the moneymart i would be cashing it at. i don't have a bank account anywhere near home where i could depo it if i wanted to... but the check cashing place said that is it does pass check systems and goes threw then something happens later.. like a stop payment put on it or somthing.. they handle it. i would not have to pay anything back as long as i do what i'm suppose to from the letter. and keep recipes for it. i can't really say it's to good to be true.. it's only 500 bucks in my pocket you know what i mean... now if it was the whole thing for me... like the sweepstakes one i got lol. all of that was supposed to be for me excipe 250.00 . lol

Well, If you decide to go ahead with it let me know how it works out! When I called the bank the check was written on they said it was a valid account number but that it did not belong to the company that was using it. So basically it would have passed check systems etc. and then come back to haunt me. That's why I didn't mess with it.

i have seen several people go through this and from my experience the check is most likely a fake and the money you are suppose to wire is going to the scam artist and he just go 1200 buck free and you are risking being sued and even jail if you cant pay it off. just my opinion... DO NOT CASH IT.

that's the only thing like i said with this one... with the contest one i called the credit union it was from and they said the same thing... good account.. fake check... but this one. the bank said the check is good i told them the account number off of it and the check number. they told me who it was from, made out to, the amount n so on and said all was good. and like i said. money mart said they won't go after me. they will go after them. so if it does turn out to be a scam, me cashing it could be a good thing. as they might catch this person.. to where with the contest one i did'nt cash... they are clueless a year later as to who it is really from and no way to get the guy... if i wastern union them money and it does go to them... westion union and almost all places that have western union have cameras... the guy would have to show id and so on.. there for there would be no where to hide and he just might get cought.

ok i will just get this out of the way so no one thinks that i have no idea of what i am talking about, my fiancee' is now in prison for forgery for making fake payroll, personal, and cashiers checks, that i watched him make. so i know a fake when i see one. i just received a cashiers check for $4,880.00 and they want me to do secret shopping,
Gap: $50.00
wal-mat: 40.00
Western union: 2,700.00
western union fee:140.00
Money gram: 1,400.00
money gram fee: 50.00
evaluation and training pay: 500.00
does this sound familiar to any one?
and in my opinion this check is a fake and a bad fake at that. not to mention i found it odd that they conveniently located the bank phone number one the check. the bank it was wrote off of was Bank of Cattaraugus which is located in NY but the address on the check is TX, not to mention that the automated service for the bank was also a poorly done job. and the phone # for the company is a private #. how many companies do you know of that have private numbers? i am writing this so if anyone else gets a check like this then they can be pro active about it. here are a few helpful tips.
first: if it comes in an envelope with no return address, or an address that can not be tracked to the appropriate company, i would be extremely cautious
second: if the check has a phone number on it, do not call the number on the check, look up the banks number your self and call them.
third: if you did not sign up for this company and they are soliciting you then i would not cash it.
this is all the advice i can give as i cant personally look at the checks but i know mine is a fake i hope this help out. i would hate to see someone get there hard earned money stolen.

see that's the thing.. mine is somewhat like that. but it is a company i did sign up with. yes there is a number on the check. but before i called it.. i looked up the bank online also. so i also got there 800 # from online. i called both numbers. both were the same and said it is good. so we'll see when i go out wendsday and do this. as i said. if it is a fake then atleast they might catch this person.... as far as looks of the cashier's check... this one and the one i got from the sweepstakes thing both look totalyyyyy real! water mark n all.. and the sweeps stakes one the bank even said it was a real check.... but the account it was drawn on was'nt the person who sent the check's account. and the check number was a check number that should'nt be printed for about another 2 months the numbers are not that far ahead yet. but yeah with that one i took it to 4 diff banks in my town and they all said it looked real and they would cash it. the one bank got the credit union info for me and the number so i could call to make sure and that's the only reason i know it was fake. no one else. even the bank maniger could tell. and it was from a well known credit union in florda. so always becarefull. im doing this just so that if it is fake the sob gets cought! so i'll keep you all updated... i have'nt had the time to get it cashed yet n do the stuff on the list as i just got hired at wally world :P woohoo i love that store! lol

the checks my fiancee' made were real checks but the bank account belonged to someone else, the checks can be bought at office depot, as can the magnetized ink they are printed with, they are sold for small companies. the thing with mine though is the magnetized ink, the one i got was printed with plain printer ink. to someone who doesn't know the difference they look the same. and mine has perforations on it which is a big thing since the checks for small businesses from office depot have the perforations and the and the ones from the bank do not (not there any way) also they didn't do a very good job with the bank logo, its blurry

my are both real check from the bank and the credit union. just with the credit union.. the one the sweeps stakes was from. they said that that check should not of been printed yet. so they are looking into it as they feel it had to be someone working there that is doing it.

i meant to comment on this earlier but forgot. the id thing with western union.. if they are making the checks most likely they are making fake id's to match the name they tell you to send the money to so no they would not get caught these people tend to move around a lot. and have a lot of different id's so they don't have to use the same name and they may be in S.F. today and next week in N.Y. the likelihood of them getting caught soon is slim, in a year or so however they may very well be in prison

right i don't care how long it takes as long as they are cought. but as far as what i meant with id was'nt photo id. i mean cameras. as i did cash the check useing money mart and did everything the list said to. have all the recipes here and made copies of them as money mart said to. so far nothing has come back. it's been a few days but we shall see. the other 500 is in my lock box where it will stay for now. even tho money mart said it would'nt come back on me. i'm not taking any chances with me spending that extra. as far as what i bought at walmart and that they are in the basement still in the bags. i refuse to open any of it or spend any of that 500 until i know for sure nothing is comming back. money mart said that when a check is reversed and so on it's done within 30 days. but i'm going to wait about 2 months before i do anything to see. so i'll keep you all posted.

SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME-I WAS HARD UP AND JUST LIKE A LITTLE ANGEL FROM ABOVE I GOT A CHECK FOR $4995. I CALLED THE NUMBER ON THE CHECK THE GUY TOLD ME YES YOU WON THE LOTTERY-KNOWING DAMN GOOD AND WELL I DIDN'T EVEN BUY A TICKET-BUT HEY I NEEDED THE CASH AND YES I CASHED IT AND ABOUT 10 DAYS LATER I HAD ABOUT $8000 NEGATIVE IN MY BANK ACCOUNT-I *bleep*-I'M SURE I'LL HAVE TO PAY IT BACK OR THEY WILL COME AND PICK ME UP-BUT I KNEW BETTER-NOONE JUSTS DROPS 5 GRAND IN YOUR LAP-BUT THE THING OF IT WAS I DIDN'T SEND THE SON OF A *bleep* THE MONEY I WAS SUPPOSE TO WHEN I CASHED THE CHECK. IT WAS GOOD WHILE IT LASTED. INCOME TAX IS COMIN AROUND AND I'LL LOSE IT ALL AND THEN SOME-BUT AGAIN IT WAS STUPID OF ME TO CASH IT. SO ANYONE OUT THERE IN THE SAME BOAT AND YOU DO GET SOMEONE TO CASH IT FOR YOU-WATCH OUT-YOU WILL HAVE TO EVENTUALLY PAY IT BACK. "LIVE AND LEARN"

So i just got mine in the mail today! lol and into the shredder it goes! :D OMG!! i just opened up a second piece of mail that is the same thing, different "front" though, still an almost 5000.00 check! again, into the shredder it goes!

anything that says use western union to my experince is a scam.. plus no one in thier right mind would send anyone that kind of cash. no legit company would do that. is this an offer that you did on fusion and this is happening to you cause of it? I heard alot of bad news about shoppers.

If anyone recieves stuff like this.. I did once didnt fall for it.. said the same thing got a check for 12,000 and said to call this number . I did call just out of curiousity it was thier home phone you heard kids in the back ground and the kid had to put down the phone to get the parent. I waited like 5 mins waiting.. then they wanted my number that was on the letter. lol.. they told me cash it take to the western union and in return they will send me my allotted winnigs of 250,000 yea right lol.. so I went to the site.. rip off type that in and you can read whats new on the rip off scene.. I never cashed that check and went to that site and 10 others had recieved the same thing I had.. Big scam. so always ck out .. rip off before cashing anything .
