Title: Condoms to students
Post by: muush88 on June 24, 2010, 12:02:54 pm
a school district in massachuessets is handing out condoms to any student who asks for them 1st grade thru 12th grade. The school also has a no-opt out policy so parents cant tell them no dont give to my child. I think the school is over stepping thier bounds with the no opt out policy.  But i do think its a good idea    i mean 1st graders up to maybe 5th graders will just use them as toys water balloons or whatever but the older ones 6th grade and up just might use them as intended

what do you think  is this promoting sex  or is this more keeping kids safe?   I dont think it promotes sex. I think it promotes safe sex

i do think 1st - 4th grade do not need the idea of sex introduced to them yet; starting in 5th grade when they have health science then it would be a good time to start promoting a safe way to have sex and teach kids from a young age to be safe. I definitely would not give a 1st grader a condom ever.

This reminds me of the South Park episode, when they started teaching sex-ed to younger and younger students. Hilarious, and true.  I do believe it promotes safe sex yes... but how young should you talk to your children about sex?  Should it really be through teachers or should it be from the parents?  I know kids are finding out about it younger and younger from their peers, so should we as parents talk to our kids before their teachers and our their peers get to them?  I didn't mean to answer you question with another question but it's a very complex subject.   :dontknow:

I really don't know why any child in 1st to 5th grade would need a condom. I wonder if they are going to keep track of how many they have handed out to each grade. No names but just a tally.

I think it's a great idea. GO CONDOMS!

You wrote only if they ask for them so I don't think any 1st graders will be coming to ask for any any time soon.

It is such a crazy idea to think that 1st graders would need condoms but I have personally worked with at risk children and its sad to say but some of them probably NEED them.  :-[

I think there should be a age restriction on it but i do think it is a good idea, just not for 6 year olds

The schools response was that they never intended to give them to kids under 6th grade and they are re wording their policy to make that more clear. I think they should give them to 6th and up, but I doubt the kids will ask anyway.

If you think about it they are better to get them if being given out then becoming mothers & dads at such young ages.  Only the active ones will be getting them.  No matter what you do or say you would do they will do what they want to when they want to.  It's a shame but true.

:BangHead:  :angry7: that is accepting, inviting them to have sexual intercourse. GEEEE what has this world to come ! What happened to VIRGINS ! Sexuality is for Adults or I should say MATURE people.

My son is going to 5th grade this year. He is my BABY ! Nobody takes my baby's virginity. I kill that cheap girl !

Parents need to be MATURE and know how to raise their children.  :angry7:

The first grade,,, ummm thats just outragous!! I understand high school students being able to aproach the school nurse and ask for them. But in all respect it starts at home.

Yes, free condoms cause sex.
Before they were dispensed, no one had ever had pre-marital sex before.
One time someone gave me a condom on Halloween instead of candy as a joke. I was compelled to have sex with the first girl of similar age I encountered  :'(
I then tried buying my own, but it appears that only free condoms cause unstoppable sex.

Well that is true. But in New York the parent's have to sign a consent form Yes or No. My daughter just graduated from the 8th grade and her new high school gave us these forms to fillout giving them permission to give out condoms to the student's. I didn't sign it. If I want her to get condoms or my son, their primary doctor will issue it or i'll buy them my self. I have packs of them in my bathroom cabinet. I'm not actively seeing anyone right now, but if i should oneday, I'll be ready. I just go out the hospital after having major surgery and at this time i will be taking a long break from relationships, until i'm better. They can't give the children condoms without a parent's consent. They can't be be reported to the Board of Health.
