Longest Walk 3 - Northern Route, Indigenous Walkabout (Reversing Diabeties)

Portland, OR to Washington DC
February 14 - July 8, 2011.

Affiliated with the Southern Route, Longest Walk - Long Walkers

The Northern Route will begin in Portland, Oregon on Feb 14, 2011 traveling through the following states: Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia. STATE COORDINATORS ARE NEEDED IN THESE STATES. If you or someone you know is willing to make a commitment of this type, please contact Portland AIM chapter member Chris Francisco - Northern Route Coordinator at (503) 515-6239, or indigenouswalkabout@yahoo.com

This profile is a work in progress at this time. I'm going to need all the help I can get. We're a little behind schedule so we have to get to work right away. Anyone that can help is welcome. Let me know.

AIM Chapter in Portland Oregon is supporting this event and working with the southern route.

Thanks. Be well brotherZ and SisterZ.

This is a 5,000+ mile Walk Across America to bring awareness of the devastating effects of diabetes and how it can be reversed by changing our entire diet and lifestyle! This disease is at epidemic levels across America, and throughout Indian Country.

We will hold community talks along the way about reversing diabetes, and heart disease. We will be advocating for major changes in our eating habits, while promoting beneficial exercise programs. Our goal will be to REVERSE DIABETES AND RAISE THE CONSCIOUS OF AMERICA THAT WE MUST HALT THE WORST DIET IN THE WORLD!

We will be leaving Portland, OR on February 14, 2011 following a pipe ceremony, and other events, and entering Washington DC on July 8th, 2011.

Northern Route: TBA (To be announced)

This event has a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY on DRUGS/ALCOHOL!

We are currently in need of local event planners, volunteers, supporters, and musicians willing to play benefit concerts along the route. If you are interested in making a commitment of this type, or know of anyone, please contact us via email or phone. We will then put you in contact with one of our State Coordinators in your area.

You mention many of the states touching my state, but my state is not included, else I would volunteer.

There will also be walkers taking a more southerly route. I have have to call the national coordinator, Dawn, to get specifics on the southern route. I will post what I learn as soon as possible.

That would be awesome.  I would love to volunteer, and to bring my daughter with me.  The last chance I got to volunteer was in 2004 with the Walk for Juvenile Diabetes (I painted faces).  I also spent five days hospitalized for DKA in 2005...and it is scarier than getting an epidural to give yourself an insulin shot.  My husband's grandfather, my paternal grandmother, and one of my maternal uncles died from complications from both types.

Darn, that not on my side of the state. I wonder will it be on tv or on line? I'd like to know more because diabetes runs in my family.
