Title: How many of you like lighthouses and have you visited and/or climbed any?
Post by: jcribb16 on September 25, 2010, 10:41:05 pm: :cat: How many of you like to study about lighthouses? Have you visited and/or climbed any of them?

I love lighthouses and have climbed the St. Augustine Lighthouse in Jacksonville, FL. I collect the miniature lighthouses and have visited the Lighthouse Depot in Maine. My great-great-great grandfather served as a lighthouse keeper at the Absecon Lighthouse in New Jersey.

Post by: gillendl on September 26, 2010, 11:59:12 am: Back in 1989 we went down to the coast of NC and stayed on Ocracoke. There is the lighthouse on the island there, then we did a tour of all the others up and down the coast of NC. It was great! None of them were open at the time, though. I really wanted to climb them and look out over the Atlantic!

My gramma always collected them and painted them. The only one I've been to was a little one in Nassau.

Thanks for the link - I've already bookmarked it and looked through it! I did have an aunt and uncle who lived in Montana that visited the Haceta Head Lighthouse and loved it. They gave me a box of notecards of it. There are some beautiful lighthouses on that site!

Post by: tigerlilly01 on October 19, 2010, 05:58:34 am: I have been inside the lighthouse on Lake Erie and several on the Oregon Coast. I saw the Lighthouse in Honolulu but only from the top of Diamond Head Looking down. I Love them.

Post by: fowlerdiana on October 20, 2010, 07:20:27 pm: I really love the lighthouse on Bald Head island, NC. It is a beautiful, old, worn lighthouse and gives a spectacular view when you climb to the top. I collect this lighthouse and have many in different sizes.

Post by: southernhorizons on October 23, 2010, 12:26:10 pm: I love lighthouses! I like anything nautical, but lighthouses are my favorite. I collect lighthouses, and love looking at pictures of them. I've been in two lighthouses, Cape May, NJ, and Admiralty Head, Oak Harbor, WA. I would love to climb Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, as that is my favorite one. I'm hoping to go to the Outer Banks, NC next year.

Post by: Azanne07 on October 23, 2010, 01:30:01 pm: I went to a couple. I climbed up one that was said to be haunted but really didnt feel the cold everyone says they feel. of course i am afraid of high places so sweaty from being nervous.
