Title: Respiratory Problems in your area???
Post by: SherylsShado on October 15, 2010, 06:27:39 am
The area where I live/work, it seems EVERYONE is SICK.  There's a "cold" going around that is like a bad head cold and then settles in the chest with alot of coughing.  Cough drops & cold meds are hot sellers here.  There are a couple of nurses who've confirmed they have been treating several people in our area with these symptoms...I don't know why it hasn't been in the news.   :dontknow:   (An aquaintance of mine for about 25 years died unexpectedly when she caught this and it was called "bacterial pneumonia".  A neighbor from my childhood neighborhood has been in the hospital with the same symptoms, she should be ok.  While she was in the hospital, her adult daughter also got sick with this and died unexpectedly in their home.  I just heard a lady in a store say she had been in the hospital for 5 days with pneumonia and she was still coughing.)  It's been kind of disturbing, having two unexpected funerals to go for people that would otherwise still be here as they were young & otherwise healthy.  Anyone seeing any of this in your area?

Last year in the Apt. I lived in before I got my house, 4 people had died from respiratory arrest in a complex of 39 apartments.  I got very ill myself, and nearly died.  I had it for 2 months, and landed in the hospital.  They diagnosed mine as Viral Bronchitis, but I'm not so sure.  No antibiotics or anything else could touch it for any relief.  No matter what I took, or what they gave me.....nothing worked.

The sickest I've ever been.  I've moved since then and in a single family home now.  I think back though and realize that was a lot of people to die in such a small complex.  Nothing was ever written about it either.  It was in a small town in the rural mountains, so it was out of the way.

I'm so sorry for your loss girlswin2,  it makes me really mad that people are dying from this and there's nothing in the news about it---all the doctors/nurses I would think know all about it by now. I heard on the news an elder gospel singer died from "respiratory distress" and I wonder if she had it as well...   I went to a store after posting the above to stock up on sanitizer & hand wipes & vitamin C and at the check-out a woman was telling the clerk she had been sick and had had pneumonia (in spite of getting a shot for pneumonia) and how hard it had been on her...she said it is "so contagious a person can give it to their cat" which I'm not sure if cats can really catch something like that or not from a person.  I first noticed people sniffling & coughing about 3 weeks ago and it's the first time in my life that no matter where I go now...most everyone there is sick.

Thanks so much still hard for me to get use to him not being here since I have been taking care of him for 17 yrs now.  But I know he is better off now he's not hurting any more.  I know exactly what your talkin about with all the sickness.  We have to be very careful due to my husband having a liver transplant 3 yrs ago.  The meds he has to take for the rest of his life keeps his immunine system almost at none existant so his body doesn't reject the liver.  (No problems at all with the liver doing real good)  If someone coughs around me in a store I hold my breath and get out of the area real fast.  When I get to my car I gargle with mouth wash and spray myself down with disinfect spray.  I even wipe the soles of my shoes with a clorax wipe so I don't track it into my home.  I carry in my car and on me hand santizer use it after I finish at the register.  Most people don't think about the person that is ringing up the groceries she/he coughs right into there own hand most of the time and don't use anything to clean there hands afterwards and continue what they were doing.  Next time your in line watch some of he checker and see what they do.  Nasty trust me.   I can't use enough lotion to get my hands smooth again due to all the washing I have to do.  If people would realize what they do impacts others and make an effort to change some it would help when it comes to cold and flu season.  Sorry getting jabbery have great day!! And again thank you.  :)

I was just discharged from the Hospital with a bad cold. I have Asthma/COPD and the head cold went to my lungs. Respiratory Failure and Dehydration sent me to the ER. I'm now on home Oxygen and Levaquin...an anti-biotic that is pure poison. I hate being sick and so sorry to read about the loss of so many.

Not good to hear. I've had pneumonia a couple times. Flu season rarely passes me by and I seem to catch every cold. Guess it's time to start stocking up on the usual; soups, vitamins, juices etc.

Yeah they say there's more cases of asthma where I live because of the poor air quality and smog.
