Has anyone noticed in the last couple of weeks how the prices are going up? Price of gas here has gone up 20 cents. I noticed last night the prices of food has gone up 10 to 20 cents. I haven't heard of a good reason explaining why. Prices on things are going up; all except pay wages.

My thing is, that I haven't heard an explanation on the news regarding the increase in gas prices. It's a snowball affect, everything goes up. The price normally goes up around holidays, summer vacation or a disaster. None of those are now. I haven't heard that the prices of oil have gone up.

yeah, the rising gas prices (again!!) make me wish I was still living somewhere with a decent public transit system...was always cheaper to take trains/subways than drive and park. *sigh
it's gone up at least $.20 here in the last two weeks. I have not noticed a rise in the food prices yet, but I do appreciate the heads up!

I live in a northern state and know that gas prices here typically go up 10-20 cents when they switch over to the winter mix of gasoline that uses more oil compared with the summer mix that uses less oil. Usually sometime in the spring I see the price drop 10-20 cents.
With all the fluctuations going on, its hard to tell if the increase is due to switch to the winter mix, or if it's due to something else (heard there was a hurricane somewhere which sometimes causes prices to temporarily increase).
For comparison check, I met some people from England a couple years ago who were impressed with how cheap the gas was in the US (at the time that's when US prices were at the $4-5 height) - they told me that they were used to paying $5-6 pounds per liter (which for those who don't know, a liter is less than a gallon), and with the exchange rate at the time, that would have equated to them paying $10-12 per liter in American dollars. So compared with that $4-5/gallon would seem cheap.

Gas went up here to $2.89...the next morning it was down to $2.73. It's been up and down for a few weeks. I try to wait it out if I can until it drops and holds for a few days. Some people panic when it goes up and fill up the tank, then it drops. Walmart seems to have raised the prices of most of their food...even the .79 bread is .96 now. Milk and eggs...everything is up at least a few cents.

Well, fuel relates to food prices as far as price indexes go.
I've noticed personally that Beef prices have gone up significantly and the only corelation I can come up with is that corn prices have gone up due to food subsidies. See, while Ethenol might be a great thing with getting gas prices, it's actually hurting us in the long run.
Also, apparently this stink bug phenomenum is hurting us as well. Cows eat the corn we can't sell for food, thing is, the cows are refusing to eat the lesser quality grain due to the stink bugs mixture into it, meaning they're having to eat more.
Corn up -> fuel up -> food prices up.
We're killing ourselves with using corn for other than food.

i am so upset about that
