I think that if you are old enough to serve the country(18) that you should be able to have a beer! After seeing all the horrific things our soldiers see and the sressful days they go through, they should be able to relax and have a beer if they want!
-
You took the words out of my mouth.

If you are old enough to understand consequances arounnd age 16 I think you should be allowed to drink i mean i wish i could somedays and i am 19 :bunny:
-
Better yet, don't drink, it's healthier, safer, and you don't loose anyone's respect! Of course that's only my opinion. :sad1:
-
I'm 18, and I have a drink from time to time.
I am responsible about it tho. I don't do it outside of my house, and I certainly don't drink and drive.
I think 18 is old enough. 18 is the legal age for everything else.... cigarettes, *bleep*.. etc
-
21 is still good....though 18 is okay if you are responsible....
-
18 is the right age. You already said it, if you can serve your country and die at 18, you should be able to drink if you so choose to.
-
Better off not to drink at all. People can get real crazy when they are drunk and most people don't drink responsibly.
-
You can fight and die for your country at 18. You should be able to drink at 18 too. Also other places that have a lower drinking age dont apear to have a big problem with it because they are brought up around it at an early age, and its not a forbiden area of dont do that.

I totally agree if you are old enough to protect our country then you should be old enough to drink..But on the same note I worry about the abuse and misuse by immature 18 year olds and the bad things that could come out of them drinking..So..I am kinda on the fence..Maturity well some adults are immature and should not drink LOL so I guess I would lean more toward 18 LOL

I see so many problems with underage drinking stemming from the fact that it is something kids are told to not do, so they'll do it. Any kid, until they are old enough to know where their parents are coming from, will do the exact opposite of what an adult tells them to do cause they can. There are adults that can't handle their liquor, and there are kids that abuse it cause its fun. We can't legislate all morality. The whole idea of making kids wait until they are 21 for anything seems ridiculous to me, IMO.

I actually think that the drinking age should be 19... By that point you are usually out of high school and are living your adult life (college, working, in the military, etc.). By the same token, I believe the age for smoking, voting, *bleep*, enter into contracts, serve in the military, etc. should also be raised to 19. The major issue I have is that I think if you are going to have an age of majority, then it should be the same for everything. But one of the major reasons why I've heard they don't want to lower the drinking age to 18 is that at that age, there are more still in high school and have younger friends, so the younger ages will have easier illicit access; making the age 21 still allows their younger peers illicit access, but people are more comfortable for an 18-year-old college student drinking than a 15-year-old high school student drinking. Thus lowering the age to 19 will still keep the easy illicit access out of the high schools, and also allow adults in every other aspect of life the opportunity to experience alcohol.
I also agree that making something taboo actually has the opposite affect of stopping underage drinking. The adolescence period of a person's life is a time when the person comes into their own. They examine the values and reasonings they were raised with, and decide whether they still accept these. They tend to explore boundaries to see if the boundary is truly a hazard to their life and/or lifestyle. Thus making something like alcohol taboo until a later age is telling the person that on the one hand, alcohol is ok (adults can drink), but on the other hand, an artificial boundary is imposed preventing the person from making that decision in their own life. I think that is why European nations, and other cultures where there is no strict drinking age, sees less binge drinking and other dangerous behaviors involving alcohol. If kids grew up where they were allowed to drink, say a glass of wine at meals or sharing a beer with dad while watching football, they would have a more informed idea about what alcohol does to the body, and would be less inclined to sneak out of the sight and control of responsible adults the exploration of this avenue in life.

uhmm any age.. coz in the philippines although you are 12 or 15 like that they will allow you to buy alcohol drinks.. you can drink as many as you want., like when there is a party going it's ok tho~! but some parents won't allow their child to drink some alchololic drink but some are allowing there child, and most of them are drinking alcohol with there children..

It should be a standard age for voting, drinking, serving in the military, etc.
-
21 is good. kids younger than that countinuely show us that their not mature enough handle alcohol.
-
The legal drinking age should be 18. Worldwide. Period. :-
-
Definitely 21, 18 maybe if you're responsible, but hey, when you're trashed I doubt you're gonna be as responsible.
-
I think that if you are old enough to serve our country, and are serving our country, you are old enough to drink. Wait till you are 21 if you aren't serving our country.
-
I think 18 is a good age, but there should be stricter penalties for driving under the influence.
-
I agree that if your of age to serve your country then you should be of age to drink... buuuut, not to sound like a hypocrit, have you seen the statistics from when the drinking age was 18 versus when they changed it to 21??? I mean, aren't there enough ppl killed by drunk drivers? or alcohol poisoning?? My cousin was a marine, and tho he was over 21, drinking not the military actually led to his death, all because he got into a car with a buddy that was drinking as well.. I just dont know if someone over 21 can't make the right decisions all the time, if we should actually count on ppl 18 making them, you know? I became a mother at 17, so like most young mothers, I thought that that should excempt me right?? uh no.. In actuallity aging from 18 to 21 that is a big step, and those years ppl tend to go through a lot... I think thats why 21 is actually a good age for drinking.. I do occasionally go out with my husband, and we steer clear of the 18 and up bars, and only go to the 21 and up because there is too much fightin and just plain retarded acting ppl in the 18 and up places... I'm not saying that ALL 18 y/o ppl aren't responsible, just most aren't lol.. And for that everyone tends to suffer.

I think a person should be eighteen years old to drink alcohol and the reason I say this is because I feel if a person only has to be 18 to go
fight for their country than they should be able to have a drink also.
I have learned in my life time that when you ban a person from something until a certain age that only makes them want to do it even more.
Kids like to rebel when they can't have something but when they have access to it they loose desire for it.
This goes to everything not just alcohol or not everything but alot of stuff, so eighteen would be a good age to me because thats not too
young to make good choices.

i would say 18 if you can be a legal adult, can vote, serve your country, and buy ciggs you should be able to have a drink every now and then!

I think that if you are old enough to go to war and decide on who runs our country, then you should be able to drink. 18 is my answer.
