Tagalongs are the only Girl Scout cookies I've ever liked, but I'm probably not getting any this year.  I'm going to get in shape, so I'm limiting my sweets intake; if I don't have it in my home, I can't eat it!

I love the Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Sandwich cookies and the Shortbread cookies. For trying to get in shape, 3 or 4 shortbread cookies and a banana is a great snack.

I'm not a big cookie person but my favorite is Samoas.  I tried to ice cream but didn't like it that much.

For those that do not have girls go around asking to sell, have you checked your local grocer about spring time? I know here they have stands in front of King Soopers and Wal-mart to sell extra boxes. They of course have to go thru all these hoops to setup the stands and I honestly don't know when they do it. When my cookies arrive, I'll let you know to be on the lookout

Girl Scout Cookies are soo good.  I love the thin mints.  They almost melt in my mouth.  The one thing I don't like about them is the approach of how they sell them.  Around here, they clog the enterance and exit of major grocery stores and I personally don't like that approach.

Thin Mints have and will always be my favorite Girl Scout cookie.  I'm not too receptive to door knockers trying to sell me things, but I never turn down an offer to buy some of those cookies.  I'm glad they also park in front of the grocery stores.  Actually they probably do that a lot more because it is safer than going door to door.   :bunny:

I absolutely love Girl Scout cookies! They come fewer to a box and are more expensive than they used to be, but I think it is a good cause. I sold them for 6 years :D

tagalongs are a thin wafer with peanut butter all around then covered in chocolate.  They taste like peanut butter cups.  Delicious!!!

We used to buy them all the time until Girl Scouts started supporting groups that I have moral objections too such as Planned Parenthood. Call me whatever you want, but if an organization openly supports abortion or means for an abortion then my dollars are spent elsewhere.

Sucks, because I love me some thinmints.

Unless things have changed, I believe those little girls work too hard for such a small profit. It is a tradition, but I think the girls should do like the Boy Scouts and sell popcorn,(Better profits) or something else. They will still be cute and hard to resist. My children were scouts, so I speak from experience.

Really?  I didn't know that.  If that's true, I can't support them either.

Well I've read all of these sites and then some.

AIDS Badge Requirements?  ewwww

I called the headquarters in California and spoke to the the Head Master over CA.  She said they were not affiliated with PP, and that all their money from the sale of the cookies stays local, and does not go into a general fund to be dispersed.  I'm waiting for a call from her boss to get more information.

I'm pro life all the way, and little girls do not need sex seminars.  I'm going to be doing some research on this, and get the congregation involved.

Annella they are not sex seminars as you can see what Matty posted they are educational. The girl scouts can earn so many different badges and it is up to the troop leader (and input from the parents) if they want to touch base on these ones or not. If the parents feel that this is a good way for their daughters to learn then good for them. It's unfortunate that when schools try to educate students parents get all up in roar yet we have X amount of teen pregnancy's every year which then leads to the secret abortions. Planned Parenthood does not promote abortion but sadly yes they do provide it as an option if asked. If the troop decides to use PP to earn a badge, I'm pretty sure they're not telling 9-10 year olds to get an abortion, they're probably talking to them about the changes girls go through, *bleep*, menstrual cycles, cramps. I too do not support abortion but I am not going to punish a little girl going door to door because her troop may be one that does not touch base on sex ed, I know mine never did and I was a girl scout for years - brownie then a junior.

Wow talk about burying our heads in the sand.  How did this conversation go from buying girl scout cookies to abortion..... I love girl scout cookies and have several nieces   that are in girl scouts. I always buy the cookies and if some of the money goes to support Planned Parenthood  well it is a good program that does more than provide alternative methods to unwanted pregnancies.  I am still buying my cookies.

Because some of us have moral concerns regarding abortion and planned parenthood and the support of that kind of organization. Same reason why I don't do anything for Komen or Avon. Same reason why I don't buy any products that support Komen. You have your things, I have mine. You can call me whatever you so desire, but at least I stand firm in my convictions.

Your absolutely WRONG on what you posted mattymatt!!  I don't just take things that I hear without checking them out. I called two top ladies of the Girl Scouts of America and got the scoop.  They have been getting bad press when many years ago a couple groups in Texas had the PP come and give a health talk (unbeknownst to headquarters).  After the big bru ha ha came out in the papers (the press really did a number on it), the Girl Scouts headquarters told those 2 troops that they were never to be affiliated in anyway with PP.

I talked with Pam who is the CEO of the Girl Scouts of California (over 35,000 girls) for almost an hour and she said they have done all they could to put out this fire that has been raging for years in the US.  She assured me that they in no way, shape, or form, agree, or are affiliated with PP on ANY level.  She further stated that any sex education the girls get are for their parents to take care of, and no sex seminars have been held at all.  She said they are definitely pro life, and support only wholesome activities for their girls.  There is no such thing as an AIDS badge, and was floored when I mentioned it.

Not everything you read on the Internet is the truth....what a shock huh?  Technology is wonderful, but anything can be put on the Internet, and splashed around the world, true or not.

The News media is one of the most unreliable biased networks we have today.  They sensationalize the smallest piece of news and blow it out of proportion.  They can take a positive piece of news and spin it negative.

I for one will be buying some Girl Scout cookies when they hit the stores here in 2 weeks.

Amy, I asked that very question to Pam (CEO of Girl Scouts of California), and she said that there are 2 large factories that make ALL the cookies.  Every troop or regional office, buys their cookies from these 2 factories and each troop sells those cookies.  The money is for the local troop selling the cookies.  There is no general fund that the money goes into and then it is distributed.  There is sometimes a general headquarters over a certain region, then the money gets turned in there, but everyone gets an accounting how much each troop made, and it's for their personal use for group activities, etc., after admin expenses, etc.
