Title: What city and state would you recommend an outgoing family or person to live? Why
Post by: doctorike on February 20, 2011, 08:26:00 pm
What city state would I recommend an outgoing family to live is a tough one for me to answer.  I would recommend Charlotte NC.  It is a well diversified city in a state that has been attracting newcomers during the last 20 years. The climate is fun, that is it has a season for everyone.  It is in close proximity of Florida, Georgia, and just a few hours by flight to those exiting northeastern states, the mid west, and, of course, a 4 hour flight to the west coast. Charlotte has something for every culture, every race, creed, every gender, age, and the city is not too congested at the present.

I never liked the big cities. I would  choice  Huntersville NC. It is not to far  from Charlotte.

I find this question interesting.  Glad that you asked it.  I live in Austin, Tx and have since 1972.  It is a beautiful, interesting and exciting city but I am looking to relocate.  It has gotten too big for me and is moving too fast.  Austin is a very trendy, happening and youthful city. There is music, art, great food and shopping, film, technology, etc.  I am going on 66 years old and it just does not work for me any longer but it I were younger .....  I am looking for a different geography and have been considering Reno, Nevada but I might check out North Carolina.  The summers in Austin are horrible and they last about five months of the year.  However, other people would disagree.  Other people think the weather is great.  It is 90 degrees plus for five or six months of the year.  And very often 100 plus for days at a time.  The traffic is also terrible and public transportation is mediocre.  A lot of the problems are due to the rapid growth.  The economy is decent to even good.  So I can recommend Austin but in saying that, after being here over 30 years, I am looking to relocate.  I am going to look into North Carolina.

Hmmm.....I really don't know, I have been a small town girl all of my life, living in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma and when I have traveled to bigger cities it felt odd to me. But, if I had to relocate to a city I would have to say Los Angeles or Bakersfield, CA. I loved those two cities when I traveled to them. I love the CA weather and the sunsets and the beaches, especially Santa Monica. I also did find that the closer I got to CA, the more open-minded people I met. I made friends easily there, so I would say go to LA. Hope this helps!

No. Las Vegas is not the place to raise a family. I lived there for ten years, and saw what gambling and the service industry do to people. You end up distrusting everyone. That's no way to teach your kids how to deal with the outside world!

I'll second the suggestions of NC. I lived down in the Triangle for two years, which is Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill. Good people, great live music all the time and not too expensive cost of living. It is a little humid, but you catch a break with all the sunshine during the winter. :D

A moderator might want to move this thread to Off-Topic.

I absolutely love St. Louis. I went to school there for 4 years and I will try my hardest to get back. Yes the summers are hot, but the winters aren't as cold. I have lived in Milwaukee, Cooperstown, NY and in Philadelphia and St. Louis is still my favorite! There are so many things you can do for free, especially in Forest Park.

For an outgoing family or person it would have to be a big city. I would think NYC is a perfect place. Always something going on no matter what time it is. But isn't this in the wrong subforum? It should be moved to off-topic...

I moved to rural Alaska from upstate NY, and i never want to go back! I lived about 30 mins in any direction to small to large cities, and i do not miss the rush or the people from there. I used to want to live where the weather was warm, and lots of different people, but now realize that i rather live off the system in the woods, and i have never been happier!!

It depends.  Does this person have kids?  A spouse?  Does the person like quiet and slower-paced places, or louder and busier places? Also, age is a factor as well.  But I think California is a good state for most people.  It's so diverse.
