Post by: mrstfreeman on March 24, 2011, 07:28:36 pm
I want to get into better shape! It's really hard though! I have some really good workout dvd's...I just bought the Flirty Girls workout, I like it, but it's hard to stick to a daily routine. Does anyone have any pointers?  ???

Really good thread started here. I'd like to join in, if I can. My wife and I are both heavy, and we want to lose weight. About the only exercise we do is Walking. My wife has been battling her weight for a couple decades, and just recently got excited because she's at 200 lbs. She wants more than ever to hit 199, and finally be out of the 200's for good.

Spring is coming, or should I say it's here now. I bet many of us are anxious to get outside, and move our bodies. Maybe we could start by talking about how far we all walked each day, when we walked, what we saw along the way, etc. If we know we have others participating, maybe that would help.

It's not a competition, because some people can certainly walk farther than others, and others prefer to job, or run, or use exercise equipment. But let's talk about what we did each day, and make this thread like a group diary.

SHARING A TIP: Remember, plates for dinner come in many sizes. Just because it's called a DINNER PLATE, doesn't mean you have to use it. Try using a Coffer Cup Saucer for a salad on the side, rather than a huge plate.

I'd be willing to join in. A pedometer would be a good measure, we could see how many steps per day or week we get. :)

For me I excersise 2-3 three times a day for short periods of time 10-15 minutes very intensely. I find that when I do the that help me stick to it rather then doing 1 45-1 hour. The real key is just keep moving and find something you like.

I too will join with you.  I am TRYING to motivate myself to do 30 minutes on the elliptial every day.  I'm very down right now and hard to keep motivated when you just want to sit and cry, but I am trying.   :'(

I eat healthy and I walk my dogs.  It's hard for me to exercise intensely because I have fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue....so walking is my choice of exercise.

About the only exercise we do is Walking.

This has really helped my husband and I.  We've been using the walking tracker at Spark People where you click on your walk route and it calculates the miles and calories burned. It's been a lot of fun watching the miles add up, and we've both lose a lot of weight. We have a long way to go, but it's been a lot of fun, especially now that the weather is nice.

I am the same way, and the only thing I find that works for me is finding a work out partner to hold me to it.

getting in shape is also one type of hardwork, and also by doing this we will be more attracted to people.

This is a WONDERFUL idea!!!!!! I'd love to do this. I don't have a partner, but this way I'll feel like I do! Let's do it!!!! :)

Turn your TV on, select your favorite musical channel and start your own exercise routine. Do old calisthenics...you will get in good shape soon!

Try writing down everything you eat down on a piece of paper.  That actually helped me because it was more of a deterrent from eating bad since I didn't want to write all that junk food down.

I'm with you Mike!  I'm eating so much healthier than before.  I'm buying purely organic and cooking everything again instead of processed microwave fare. Can't wait for the weather to turn warm so I can start walking myself. It's been raining cats and dogs for weeks....sigh  What I need is someone help motivate me or a partner to share this with. It's so hard to get me out the door, but once out, it's great.  I love to walk, but aerobic exercise is pretty much out for me....boring to the max. I keep saying every Summer that I'm going to start swimming everyday again.....well, this Summer is the goal to do just that.

Tip that works for me:  I hate eating breakfast, so will have a piece of fruit or 1 piece of toast....something light.  Breakfast is so important they say, but I could skip it altogether myself. Guess breakfast gets the metabolism started?

If we can encourage each other and help each other along that would be wonderful.

Okay great, we have a GROUP of us to encourage each other. One thing is for certain. What one person does, doesn't necessarily mean someone else can, or will, or wants to do the same. If we can RESPECT each other's opinions, I think this group will be successful in it's endeavor to "encourage one another".

That said. My wife and I had a great discussion today. But we're in the middle of watching a movie, and we took a quick bathroom break intermission. So I'll be back later to share some additional thoughts. So, stay tuned, and stay encouraged.

Mike

Okay Gang, Here's where I start getting creative. Hope you all on board, and ready to go. It's May 27th, Sunday, my time (Colorado, USA). As I mentioned in my last post, my wife and I had a fantastic discussion today. And I want to share some of that with you all. Before I do, let's chat about where my wife and I are at, currently.

My wife is 4'10", 200lbs. Her goal is to get to around 140lbs, so she's got 60lbs to lose.
I am 5'6", 250lbs. My goal is to get to around 160lbs, so I have to lose about 90lbs.

You put 60 and 90 together, we could form a whole new person between us. That's sad to think about, huh? Now, I don't know what everyone's individual goals are, but I think a good TIP at this point, would be for us all to individually set a bar for ourselves. Set our own goals. Know that you'll stumble along the way, there will be times it's tough, and all that other negativity. But that's where this group comes into play. When you hit a negative wall  :BangHead: just come back here, and read some of our positive reinforcements messages.

Okay, so my wife and I have our goals. Now, there's a time frame by which we want to accomplish this task. Our 25th wedding anniversary is coming up on June 2013. We've only been on one Carnival Cruise in our 22 1/2 years of marriage, and our passports run out in 2013. We want to go on another cruise before they do, and it would be wonderful to do so by our 25th Anniversary. It would also be great to reach our goal by that time.

How long is that, you might ask? Well, we got April, May and June for our 23rd, and then 2 more years after that. So, if you add up the months, that's 27 months. So, we did some math. If my wife lost 2lbs a month for 27 months, that would be 54lbs. She's looking to reach 60, so that's really close. For me, I need to lose 3lbs a month, times 27 would be 81lbs. I'm looking for 90, so that's close too. Thus, our personal achievements are to lose 2 and 3 pounds a month. This should definitely be possible, but it'll take us the better part of 2 years to achieve.

So, that leads to the questions: What are your goals, and how long to you want to project to reaching them? If overnight is your time frame, you're doomed to fail. Make it reasonable, and achievable. Only you can make those decisions.

Now, wouldn't it be nice if we all could meet up on the same Carnival Cruise ship in June 2013! Just because this is our goal, doesn't mean it has to be yours. But if you can't decide, perhaps that might help as motivation. It'd be nice to meet internet strangers soon-to-be friends from Fusion Cash!

That's what we talked about. We're gonna begin Monday with our regular walking. And we'll report our progress periodically here on this thread. Tell us when you decide what goals you have in mind, how long your project to reaching them, and your plan of action for making it happen.

We'll talk again,
Mike & Carolyn

MONDAY'S TASK 03/28/11

Okay, in preparation for tomorrow, the first day we begin encouraging each other to begin a fun routine of moving our bodies, here's the first assignment, if you wish to participate.

We (My Wife And I) want to challenge you to do the following. Choose to find a place that has many steps. If you have a camera, take a picture of that place. The place can be a Building, a Park, Multi-Level Mall (indoors), or any place that has multiple steps. Then, walk up and down them at least once. If you took a picture, upload it here to this forum. If you don't have that ability, no problem. Then, everyone post a message saying "GENERALLY" where the steps were. That means, don't give us information that's gonna reveal too much about you. Like, don't say it was the park right next to my house. Just say you went to a nearby park. Get it? And lastly, include for us how many steps you walked up and down.

The goal of this task is not to outdo each other. The task is simply a means to eliminate any need of ever buying a Stair Master machine. Who needs one? There are LOTS of steps out in the world, and each one is FREE! So, use them to your advantage.

Okay, that's the task for Monday. But you have an entire week to accomplish it, before we post next Monday's Challenge.

Good Luck, and Have Fun.
Mike & Carolyn

TIPS: You can use a car to hunt down a great place with stairs. But, when it comes time to actually do the task, leave the car at home, and walk to your destination. Bring two bottles of water, and carry one in each hand, swaying them as you walk to the destination. They'll act as weights for your arms! Bring Grapes to munch on. Why waste an opportunity to walk, exercise with homemade weights, eat healthy....as well as work the stairs!

From December to February I was doing a really good job of walking on the treadmill every day but I wasn't eating healthy so i wasnt loosing anything. Now I've since moved and now I'm eating healthy but finding it hard to find time to do my walking. Ugh. WIsh I could just get back into the swing of it, but my treadmill is too loud to use in the apartment so I only used it once, the first day I moved in. I started walking outside but then it got really cold and we had a snow storm so it's not even nice outside. They say warmer weather is coming so hopefully I can get out there everyday and do my walking!

P90X workout is pretty intense...I tried it for a few minutes and was exhausted! Also, I find that classes at gyms help...you stay motivated, especially
with others around and participating in the class forces you to keep working out even if you're a bit tired...it's very easy to get distracted/lazy on our own.

A pedometer is a great way to see how far you are walking.  I think  the best way is to find someone, not in the same household that you can be exercise buddies.  They can hold you accountable for your workouts.

I've just started working out recently. I want to build my body up, actually. I'm not fat or skinny, but in between. I want an athletic figure. :)

So I've been watching programs that'll help me out. I usually go beyond it to feel some real 'burn', but it's been working. Check out www.fitclick.com as a great start (and finish) to your work out needs! It's extremely helpful, as it has work out plans, videos, and even tracks your progress and foot plan offers.

I hope that helps!

ZUMBA!  That will have you sweating in less than 20 mins!  But just like everything else in life, it will not work if you don't work it

You can either buy the dvd course or the game for the Wii.  Another great game to buy for the Wii is Just Dance - you will have tons of

fun with this one AND shed pounds!  I love my Wii.  In fact, I own 3 of them!  My kids and I play them all the time!  The games bring you together

as a family and get you active, involved with them and each other.  A win-win situation  8)

I bought core rhythms (latin dance workout kinda thing. I chose this because it's very popular in Japan too.) dvds and started about a week ago. I haven't lost even a pound yet but every time I dance I feel my stomach gets tight and I sweat too. So it's definitely using my muscles and burning some calories. Hopefully I will be able to wear swimsuit this summer ::)

ok sit down. flex ur stomach muscles. again flex ur stomach muscles. turn on the tv. turn it to the comedy station and laugh. u will be retracting ur stomach muscles for at least 30 mins. good work out and u hardly have to move.
