When I went to bed last night they had decided not to shut it down.  I have not had the TV on this morning so don't know what has happened since then.  I wish they could get it straighten out and watch our tax dollars and quit spending un necesseclely.  I can not live like they do.  I have to watch and not over spend.  Seems they would someday figure that out.

When I went to bed last night they had decided not to shut it down.  I have not had the TV on this morning so don't know what has happened since then.

Here's from Reuters on what what agreed upon:

The short-term measure cuts nearly $2 billion in spending from transportation and housing programs, including $1.5 billion from a high-speed rail program and $280 million from capital investment grants.

The longer-term agreement will cut spending in the current 2011 fiscal year by about $38 billion, including $17.8 billion from benefit programs, or "entitlements," lawmakers said.

The rest would come from so-called discretionary spending, including a cut of $3 billion from defense programs, according to House Appropriations Committee Chairman Mike Rogers.

Changes in mandatory spending, or "CHIMPs" in Washington-speak, minimize the impact of the spending cuts in future budget cycles because they do not lower the baseline levels for discretionary programs such as space exploration or housing, whose funding levels are set by Congress each year.

The package of cuts falls short of the $61 billion that Republicans passed through the House in February, but it is still above the original proposal they advanced in January.

Measured another way, the longer-term agreement cuts $78.5 billion from the budget proposal submitted by Obama to Congress a year ago for the current fiscal year, which began on Oct. 1.

What I would like to see, but haven't been able to find so far this morning, is a line-by-line analysis of exactly what was cut and from which program

Does anyone have that?

Maybe instead they should cut their salaries, as a penalty for being too busy arguing and earmarking to do their jobs properly!  Let them suffer without a paycheck or two; they can absorb it easily, unlike a good number of the American people having trouble right now!   :bs:

No and the government didn't shutdown.  As long we pay our taxes this month and every year the government is not going to shutdown.

In my humble opinion the government should be held accountable to the same generaly accepted rules and governing proceedures that we are.  If I run out of money I have few options.  Make more money increase revune, go deeper in debt (already done), do without.  It is a rather simple equation.
