Title: Question About Credit Card Offers
Post by: SurveyMack10 on April 22, 2011, 04:32:35 pm
Currently I only participate in free offers. I am too chicken to enter any credit card information over the internet, I am really iffy about it and scared of identity theft. Would it be wise to put money on a prepaid card, that way if the information did get stolen there would only be a limited amount of money on the card. I could load it with FC money, then use that money to make more money. Any opinions?

Actually if you have a paypal account, you can sign up for a free virtual credit card or disposable pre-paid cards

pre-paid cards would limit the risk to the amount on the card right?

At my old job I got paid with a pre-paid visa and it never had a limit
but even paypal has limits if you don't have an upgraded account

I know people worry a lot about using credit cards online, but as an avid internet shopper I'd have to say I don't think you should worry too much. And if there are ever fraudulent charges on your account, disputing them is pretty painless with most credit card companies.

I don't really feel comfortable signing up for the credit card offers under any circumstances. It just makes me nervous.

If you really want to do the pre-paid card, then honestly why not make money of it, FC has offers for them here. I think it is "Account Now", which by the way I did on here, and I even use the card. I am sure the "Account Now" offer is still on here too. I ONLY use pre-paid cards online. They are really great. One bit of advice for you though, is read all the charges and fees, be sure you want what ever one you are looking at. They all usually charge a monthly fee, which can be between $2-$9 a month. Some of them charge activation fees too. But yes if you get a prepaid card, then it is not like you have tons of money balance, for anyone to rip you off. Also I have found that the pre-paid card people work with you a lot more, than the actual credit card people when it comes to someone trying to charge you something you don't want to pay for. Oh also for anyone interested in them, and lets say you have bad credit or can't get a bank account, and etc... now a days, most pre-paid cards DO give you routing and account numbers, so you can also use the account as a checking account. Pay bills online as if you were using a checking account, even set up direct deposit to have your pay checks, or money put right onto your card and etc.... Oh also watch out for charges to like call them, or check balance and etc... some cards will charge you for these things. Like charge you per call to them, or per min, or charge you if you call to get a balance.

The one card/company I like the most, is one called GreenDot, the url is MyGreenDot.com or GreenDot.com anyway they do not charge you to call the, and their monthly fee is like $5, plus if you use ATM's in their network there is no ATM fee to withdraw money off the card. All their others fee's are low, if any, and their people have always been great, helpful, and etc...

well i use a debit card not a credit card so they would get access to my entire checking account if they were to get the info, which is why i have yet to use the card online
