Title: $89 Charge to my phone bill! Not happy!
Post by: djones5353 on May 27, 2011, 05:07:12 am
I am so mad right now. I did an offer last month where you had to enter your phone number. As soon as I entered it I started getting all these weird text messages. At the end of each text message it would say type "stop" if you want to stop receiving these texts. So I replied STOP. Well I got my phone bill yesterday and there were 7 charges on my bill from a third party vendor totalling $89! I called Tmobile and they credited me $29 but I still have to pay the remaining. So when I cash out the money I have been working so hard at will have to go to pay my phone bill. grrrr

I never ever do offers that ask for your cell phone number.....they always spam and charge.  Can you call or get a hold of the company that did this?

When I first joined Fusion Cash, the same thing happened to me, I was charged $120.  Fortunately, my cell phone provider removed all the charges, but that was after several phone calls with them.  I do not have t-mobile.  What my carrier told me was to never reply "STOP", but to ignore the text message.  Once I reply with the word "STOP" they are able to charge because I am acknowledging the subscription.  I now try to avoid cell phone offers, but occasionally I have given my number in an offer.  I have received texts, and I never reply "STOP".  I haven't been charged since.  I would suggest you calling your carrier again.  Perhaps a manager at t-mobile will be able to help you further.

Hope this helps.

This could be a problem for me I have done a offer that required me to use my cell phone, but I did reply back to them with a text to STOP the message's from being sent. Does these charges only apply to certain carriers?

That happen to me too, and didn't know it at first till I received my phone bill and the charges, so I called Verizon they told me what it was and they put a block on so I can't get charged and can't receive them, and if I do they will reverse the harges. That's when I learned not to do anything where they ask for your phone number, they shouldn't beable to that but I quess they have to make money too. I think I had like $55 for charges, this was about three month's ago. Never, Never do it again!

Wow, I didn't realize that replying STOP would actually give the scammers the go-ahead to charge my account. I get unwanted text messages, and I've always replied stop. So far I've never gotten charged. I read somewhere online that if you reply BLOCK instead, it will block that text message spammer in the future. I started doing that, and it does seem like I get fewer text messages, but I'm not sure if that is the reason, or if they just gave up.
I never do the cell phone offers, because I don't want to pay monthly fees for something I'm only getting a few cents for on FC.

Yikes! That sucks. It seems like it varies though if people should or should not reply stop. I haven't done any of the mobile offers but I think some of the survey ones spam me now and then I never reply to those

What is Magic Jack?

What is Magic Jack?

It makes phone calls through your computer; you just hook your phone up to your USB port.

I think it's a good idea to give backup phone numbers on a lot of offers, the same way you can use back up email addresses. I know a some people are using their Google voice number. You can even google 'free voicemail' and find other places.

I never give out my cell number for this reason. WHen you get these texts i was told by verizon to reply stop one time and if you get anymore texts from them call your phone company right away and have them to block that supscription. Verizon does credit if you block subscriptions. I had this happen one time. Not from this site tho. I think that fc should be more aware of their sponsers and keep things that do that off this site. I understand sometimes things happen but if it happens to alot of people they should not allow these things on the site. I would be mad to if I had to pay an extra 89 on my bill. just never give out you number or social or bank stuff. If you order anything off of here and use a credit card I get a pre paid credit card and use that so no crazy charges can be made to my bank.

What is Magic Jack?

Magic Jack is a little box that plugs into one of your USB ports and lets you have an internet phone number. You plug a phone into the other end and they give you a phone number. They use to have an offer for them here on FC. Anyway it's about $40 for the box and 1 year phone service and then like $18 a year after that. Free long distance in USA at least. Has voicemail and some other features too.

Wow, thats a shame! Sorry to hear about that. I never give my cell phone number out just to avoid telemarketers calling and using up my minutes.

I never give my phone number, but I also have the phones blocked from receiving and/or sending any text message that has a subscription.  Years ago my teenage daughter did that and I was being charged $9.99 a month for abouty 4 months before I caught up to it.  So I blocked the phones and never again.  If I really need something that requires a text from the block messageing system I call verizon and asked them to unblicked for a day.  Then I call back and reblocked.  As for offers I donot give my phone no matter how good the offer sounds.

Wow, this is some valuable information.  I am sorry for the problems that several of you have had.  I never give my cell phone number to anyone at all.  I use my cell phone only for back up and emergency.  I do not even have voice mail set up.   I have a home land line and that is my primary phone.  I am very nervous about all the spammers and scammers out there.    :dontknow:

That is not good.  I have not entered my cell number in anything just for that reason.  One time I did get a random text not sure from where however, I did enter the STOP and it did.  Not sure if it was from any offers from here.

You should never give out your cell phone number, because somehow they end up charging you for something.  I am sure you have learned your lesson. :crybaby2:

That is to bad, but if you have to enter your cell phone I stop the offer, they seem to be scams.  Sorry you had to find out the hard way.

Wow, that's a huge charge! I would definitely complain. I don't ever do offers that require your cell phone number. I've never been worried about charges (although now I am!) but I don't want to receive solicitous calls on my cell, so I don't do them.

Replying stop to a text message, does not give anyone permission to charge you.

I just got charged $9.99 for messaging charges from what I think was called the "Win Cash 247" -- which would be one thing but I didn't get credited for it either.  Oh well...lesson learned

....and that is probably why my carrier removed the charges.  I totally agree with you, however, it's those sending the text messages that need to know that they do not have permission.
