If you handwash your dishes like I do, do you leave the water running while doing so?...oh this is another thing that drives me crazy...conserve water and shut it off...I need to start a pet peeve topic lol :BangHead:...i'm ok i'm ok

I do wash them by hand, but no, I don't leave the water running. I do know people who do and it drives me crazy too!! :angry7:

Hi Kankula, My son's girlfriend was here a few weeks ago and it was my first time meeting her. I made them dinner and she offered to wash the dishes, well she let the water run and run and run and it took all my strenth to bite my tongue. I mentioned it to my son later on and he mentioned it to her UGH. a week later she said sorry and I felt like a nut because my son said something to her but I think she knows now to shut it off lol

Lol!! My daughter-in law does the same thing. It is really hard not to say something. When I wash dishes at their house, I don't turn it on until I have a sink load of dishes to rinse. After a while, she will turn the water on and rinse each item I wash as soon as I'm done washing it. It takes everything in me not to turn it off. Oh well, at least there are still some of us who conserve! lol

Thank you. You too. I am a stay at home housewife (for now. with this economy, I may just have to break down and get a job!). I have 4 beautiful grandchildren. Most of my friends around here have either past away or moved out, so most of my conversations are with chilren! It' nice to talk to an adult once in a while! I am very new at this, but I think I'm getting the hang of it.

it took me a few days as well but I have it down pat now lol...you'll get it and welcome by the way...4 Grandkids you're so lucky. I have 2 and want more but my kids dont now whats up with that lol..i'm working on them ;)

hi there its funny because I do leave the water running, but get this I also leave the water running while im cooking also, my husband (may he rest in peace) use to hate when i left the water running, its a habit I have for years. I should try not to leave the water running...

I hand wash my dishes and turn the water off. I have to bite my tongue when my daughters are here because they dont turn it off. Its nice to hear from other women that stay at home now and have grandkids, I have 5 and one on the way.

I wash my dishes in the dish washer. It is an energy saving unit. It actually uses less water then if I did them by hand. I love it.

Interesting topic........SHUT THE OFF THE WATER........ I hear that a lot when I'm washing a couple dishes, but I only leave it running because I sometimes wonder off and forgot I'm even washing dishes, but then somewhere a voice would yell......WHY DO YOU LEAVE THE WATER RUNNING??!!!

:BangHead: While I grew up, we had a well so I naturally learned to conserve water. I always turn the water off when washing dishes. My son-in-law, on the other hand, makes me crazy when I am there. He will turn the water on to do something, go off to catch something on TV and come back ten minutes later to finish what he was doing. After the first time this happened, I always turn off the water. When he comes back he doesn't realize it at all. My daughter is more conservative and my grandsons even turn the water off while they are brushing their teeth.

i use dishwasher for plastics and i handwash nonstick pots and i shut the water while rinsing dishes

I wash them in the dishwasher usually but since the first of the year when they took the phosphates out of cleaners, I have to hand wash them at least once a week because they build up white scummies from the water. Hand washing seems better but I hate to wash dishes everyday so the dishwasher is easier for the lazy. Never leave the water running anywhere any time cause I have always had a well and the well does run dry.

I am really bad at turning off the water, its bad I know. But at least now I realize I am doing it and then turn it off.

Well I'm guilty of leaving the water running. I can't stand washing dishes with a sink full of water and soap like they do on the commercials. Using that same dirty water to wash all the plates. Yuck! I had to do that in Puerto Rico when we had no water during Tropical Storm Jeanne and it was nasty. We used bottled water and soap to clean the dishes. It was horrible. If I'm paying for the water I'm going to let it run regardless.

Yeah, I wash dishes by hand as well ...I have double sinks, so I fill up a flat bucket with fresh water to rinse my dishes so don't have to run water. :thumbsup:

Unfortunately, there is no dishwasher where I am living. I have to do all my dishes by hand. I used paper bowls and plates most of the time. To save water I bought a little plastic box. I pour warm water and soap to use when I have to do regular dishes. I think this will show you how to save some water and aggravation.

I use the dish washer. But when boyfriend does them he only runs the water to rinse them off.

How do I wash my dishes you ask? Well, I typically use soap..and water..and a dishwasher. Lol I also wash some dishes by hand. I load my dishwasher very well so that I can fit as many dishes in it as possible at one time so that I only need to run it once, but I do it just right so that every dish still gets cleaned. Larger items (pots, pans, cookie sheets, etc.) get washed by hand almost always. I don't always have the water running, but if I do it's on a very, very small stream. (I don't have a double sink, so I can't use one side for dirty dishes & then set them in the other side to be rinsed. :/ )

Since my dishwasher is broke I have to handwash the dishes. I am not a water saver! (which I probably should be) I keep the water going....usually!

it depends how many dishes i have....sometimes i put soap on the sponge...other times i fill up the sink and turn off and on as needed....it depends on my mood

[I also handwash my dishes. I find using a basin filled with water, my favorite dishwashing liquid and three tablespoons of bleach to be the best. I think dishes can be clean and pretty close to bacteria free with this recipe. As for the water waste if you use a basin you can wash all of the dishes and flatware and rinse well once after you have washed them that way the water is on once to fill and once to rinse. /quote] :angel12:

i had wash my dishes also and try to save as much little water as posible, i hate it when people leave the water running when washing the dishes or anything for that matter.

sometimes i do hand wash my dishes but most of the time i put them in the dishwasher but my dish washer isnt so great ne more so some of the dishes i take out, i have to wash by hand and i hate that. but speaking of conserving water. mom says i used to turn the water off each time she would brush her teeth coz she would keep it on. i remember that! she says i saw a seasame street episode about conserving water and helping the fish and from then on i have been shutting the water off. i only turn the water on when i have to rinse something and i turn it right back off when im done rinsing it. there are 2 reasons i do this..1. the fish..2. my sink fills up with water fast and sometimes it doesnt go down fast enough coz there are other dishes in there so i have to let the sink drain before i do more dishes. also when i brush my teeth i put the toothpaste on my tooth brush turn on the water and make my tooth brush just wet enough to stick in my mouth then i turn it off. i only turn it back on when i have to rinse the sink of my spit and then im done in the bathroom.

I like to wash dishes while multi-tasking. Let's face it: water is a natural resource we all need to conserve and it can also be expensive. So I figure what the heck, multi-task. What do I mean? Let me tell you. I try to wash everything at once. And on top of that, I water the grass at the same time. Let me explain: I set up the sprinkler outside. I get the kids in their bathing suits and throw them a bar of soap. I also take my dirty clothes outside along with the dishes. And I make sure the car is in range of the sprinkler and get a buddy to wash it while the kids are showering and I'm doing the dishes, clothes and watering the lawn. It saves money, let me tell you. Of course I do get strange looks from my neighbors from time to time... that's OK though! ;)

I definitely hand wash my dishes.I don't leave the water running,but hubby does.I don't say anything as long as he's willing to help wash the dishes.My granddaughter likes to leave the water running also.I am always after her to cut the water off.

I have caught myself leaving the water running, out of a bad habit. I have gotten better about not leaving it running over the past few years though.

I will wash some by hand if i have to, but generally after i use dishes i rinse them off and put them in the dishwasher. When the dishwasher is full i turn it on. nice and simple

but sometimes it doesn't even cross my mind.
it's handy to be able to just rinse as i go.

Funny i wash my dishes by hand and my mother-n-law is the one who leaves the water running and doesn't even remember to clean the bottom of the plates or bowls or out side the glasses

I turn the water off, after I've filled the dishpan. Once I'm finished scrubbing, then I turn the water back on in the sink to rinse :)

I don't have a dish washer so I wash my dishes in the kitchen sink. I run my water in sink and the other side I put watch and rinse them as I wash them. This saves time and I get them cleaner. Hope everyone has nice day. May God bless each of you.
