I have seen in my neighborhood the russian and jewish people, wearing expensive clothing and coming to do the grocery in their expensive cars. i tried applying for food stamps and was turned down because i was a family of three making 400 dollars a week. which meant i was making way too much to receive food stamps. my rent alone is 900 dollars plus utilities and cc bills plus childcare expenses..my kids are 14 and 16 - i didnt get any help and was turned down - I hate how the system works....I am not racial but this really makes you wonder.....you are not allowed to have a lot of money in the bank or have assets to qualify for foodstamps or medicaid...you can only have a certain amount of money in the bank for medicaid or food stamps - i know for sure...

It is based on your income, not your assets. So I suppose people could have lots of money in the bank yet not have any income and qualify for foodstamps.

Well, you are wrong. This is taken from the government site itself:
"Not all the things you own count. For example, your home and the land it is on do not count for food stamp eligibility. A car or truck counts differently depending on how it is used."

I would NOT make a blanket statement like you did ie "all Russians and Jews get food stamps " either because that is not true. You don't know the situation and details of the people you are talking about, there might be things you do NOT know that makes them eligible.

There are certain criteria that must be met to qualify for foodstamps. Your opinion about Russians and Jewish people sounds like an unfair and negative stereotype.

I am Jewish. My family gets food stamps. Oh well, I guess I fit in your neat little box there, don't I?
I'll tell you, I'm part of a family of three and $400 a week sounds like a small fortune to me.

I thought the original poster was just making a personal observation of what it seemed like was happening in their neighborhood, but I am not Jewish or Russian so maybe that it why I did not take as much offense. But the topic of the post certainly does sound biased.
Going back to being on foodstamps and qualifying though. Someone said you cannot have assets and qualify, that is not true. There was a story recently of a man who won a million dollar lottery and was still on food stamps. He took it in a lump sum and therefore can claim he has no income. People were furious but unless he voluntarily gives up the benefit or they change the law, he is qualified.

That would explain then why I see alot of women with their "just from the salon" hairstyles and nails all done, wearing designer clothes using food stamps. It's really shameful how people can buy $50- $100 in lottery tickets, alcohol, smokes, and energy shots/drinks and when they open their wallets to pay...there's their ebt card in their wallet. They are totally robbing the funds from the people that actually need it. *I'm not Russian or Jewish, I didn't really care for how the topic was worded. There aren't that many Russians or Jews in my location...it's mostly white people that I see using their EBT cards and they seem so well off that I'm always amazed that they qualify for foodstamps.

I know a lot of people felt offended, especially the jewish and russians, but its so true - i agree with SherylsShado - because that's exactly what i see- people getting off expensive cars and all made up only to come into the store and use ebt card -
in one of the posts FROM "amyrouse" i saw someone wrote "making 400 dollars a week is a small fortune in a family of three" I don't know where she comes from and how she handles things calling 400 dollars a week a small fortune...my rent alone is 900 plus utilities and other bills are at least (with minimum payment only) 600 dollars - that leaves me with only a 100 to support a family of three - i tried getting food stamps but they denied...I wonder what "amyrouse" means by small fortune?????????? :BangHead:

The Russians and Jews in your neighborhood must be refugees or something. That's what they do in our area. They come to this country and get handed $20,000 per person to start with, plus a free house and car and job, while American citizens who lived here all their lives have nothing, because, if they even find a job, most of their paycheck goes to taxes to support all the foreigners who get everything for free and never have to work for it. And this is not hearsay; I worked at a place where they had a bunch of refugees, mostly russian and bosnian, and they openly boasted about everything that they got from a country they hate! Political correctness has taken such hold on people in this country that we are supposedly racist if we protest against such injustice! The American dream is obviously only for non-Americans and anti-Americans!

Seems to me that a lot of people who need them do not get them and the ones that can work but dont want to get the food stamps.

You know nothing about my situation with my family. Besides that fact, if you have $1500 worth of bills, maybe you should re-evaluate some of your expenses instead of railing about other people who live off of your tax money...seems to me, you want to do the same thing. U MAD? :dontknow:
