Title: Etsy
Post by: tigerlilly01 on July 12, 2011, 05:57:27 am
Does anyone sell on Etsy ?   I am thinking about starting up a store but not sure if it would be worth the time and effort ????

What is Etsy? Before you start anything like that you need to do a lot of research first. I would be wary if they ask for monies up front. I've been through scams so many times, I should know better. LOL. Check out the BBB on it's reputation. See if there is a Etsy forum site that you can blog to. Most importantly listen to your instincts which usually tells you what you need to know. Oh ya, if it seems too good to be true.....it's probably not. Good luck!

I have a few friends that have Etsy shops and they seem to do okay but the ones that do the best are the ones that do a combination of Etsy and FB promoting. :) Good Luck!

I think it is like everything else you have to put your time into it and have to build a base of customers.  I know people that also do madeitmyself.com also.  So I think if you are going to do a store you may want to look at a couple of them and see if they all have the same fees and if it will be worth your time.  But you may find that it works good from the start it depends on what you are selling.  Good Luck.  Keep us posted.

What will you all be selling on Etsy?  I have thought about selling unique handbags and totes.  The market is way down on consumer spending, so do you all think a shop there would work?

even if it doesn't work, it's only 20 cents per listing
no matter WHAT. you get 5 pictures, unlimited text
space, and the the listings stay up for quite awhile
until the expire (a few months or so).

i have an etsy and a facebook to promote it. i've
sold several things (not tons) but it's so exciting
when you sell something! especially because its
something you made. plus, you're
in a community surrounded by people who appreciate
handmade, which has good vibes

i say try it! i have not pushed myself to list as many
things as i can, which seems to be the trick. the
more you make, the more you sell...and the more
you sell, the more your name is known. this is a
big goal of mine and i WILL reach it eventually!
just read the etsy forums and the blog posts.
they are very motivating! you can do it

I chose to go with Etsy and although I haven't sold many I have sold a few items and it is very rewarding for someone to love your handcrafted goods.

I also head about ETSY from a friendwho makes beautiful loop rugs.  She tells me she will have some more posted there this week.  Check them out.  Also have a friend who sells bags there.

ETSY seems to be a reliable marketplace for people who make handcrafted/artisan items.  They also are a good source for craft supplies (usually offered by people who bought all the stuff then didn't do the hobby.) If found some great deals there and also some wonderful XMAS presents.  I would buy or sell on this site.

I have a store on Etsy, but I only have a few items listed. I recently made my first sale, so hopefully that is a sign of better things coming.

Their fees are pretty bad, but with the way that Ebay has been hurting their sellers lately with fees, Etsy isn't looking too bad any more!

Theres just to many items on that website, for you to standout you have to do a lot of marketing and have a very unique product, but it is only 20 cents a listing so you dont have to invest to much money into it.

I'm familiar with etsy though I don't have a shop there. I was a member of a craft coop business for many years and I can say etsy looks relatively low capital/ low risk. Don't expect too much in sales unless you are good at promoting your products and then realize that in a recession a lot of people don't have the discretionary income to spend. Also it is true that advertising is quite important. Good luck.

I sell handmade crochet hats on Etsy. I love Etsy! I love shopping on Etsy too  I got all of art prints for my little girl's room from Etsy. It's really nice to support indie artists. Also I like to shop for vintage stuff there :)

Their selling fees are very cheap (compare to ebay) so it's definitely worth it.

I have a shop on Etsy, but haven't sold anything yet.  I do love the site, though.  I would say to give it a try since the fees aren't too bad.

I have had my etsy shop for 3 months and have had 22 sales ... not a lot but it is sooooo exciting when you know others like your work.  I even shipped one of my owls to a guy at Polo Ralph Lauren!!  That was very cool.  I'm just having a hard tome getting product made because I am so busy....

I don't sell on Etsy, but a friend of mine does. She really likes it. As for me, I do a lot more buying than selling there. I try to stay away from that site, lol.
